GW2 or New Campaign/Expansion?
The Cold Jade
As you all know, there has been 0 news on GW2 for the past few months. Not a word.
It has been 2 years since GW had any expansions or campaigns.
I know, many players are bored out of their minds with the lack of content update (the skill updates are exciting, yes, but the excitement only lasts for so long).
And supposedly, 2010 is when beta is coming, but we don't even know of that. It's 2009 man.
I've effectively given up on GW2, I don't care, I just want some news or something to look forward to..
So, would you rather wait with 0 news for GW2, or have an expansion/campaign be released?

At this point, I'd rather ANet do their jobs and make GW2. It doesn't seem like they are, seeing as how we've only gotten 2 concept art pictures that really don't show anything at all.
Making a new expansion/campaign would be ridiculous. It's like putting lipstick on a pig. Yeah, I went there.

I'd be happy with a new expansion, it's not like if I'm going to move on to Guild Wars 2 anyways. Diablo3/Starcraft 2 is where it's going to be at.

gw2, enough campaigns + expansion already. not much more u can do with gw1

I don't want news until they are ready to release a public beta of some kind. I like the mystery. We already know a good amount of lore that happens and 5 races along with a few new mechanics. (Z or X axis or whatever its called)
I'm fine with this. Besides, I have other games/ a life to keep me occupied.

I don't think it's wise to take people away from the 200 that work on GW2. Also NCSoft would never allow it imo.
If GW2 is still some two years away, it would be nice to strengthen the live team with 20 new employees or so (if they can find the right people). So the live team can create new content. Linsey seems to have talent and does a good job with the few recources she has available for her team.
Trying to convince NCSoft is something else though.

You simply got to ask yourself the #1 question:
If they're not doing anything involving GW2, what are they doing then? Getting paid to test seat cushions?

It's not like we have a choice in the matter. ANet has already made it clear time and time again that the playerbase is totally at their mercy concerning GW2.

Yes, the lack of news is frustrating, but what are we to do? Complain more? It will come when it comes. In the meantime it would be nice to see some love come Guild War's way. At the very least I expect to see appropriate balancing and general bug fixes, and at the very most I would like to see something along the lines of Sorrow's Furnace(though I do not expect it). I don't think another expansion, or campaign is necessary, or really desirable. I still have my hands full with the original three.
What it comes down to is I'm happy to wait with absolutely no news on Guild Wars 2, as long as they take care of Guild Wars. They're not obligated to tell us anything about their future games, but they are obligated to support their current ones - and right now that is Guild Wars.

Just to make it clear, I have nothing against Aion (even though it's not my cup of tea) and the more people that play it, the better for NCSoft and maybe Anet.
IronSheik
More content for GW1.
I can tell GW2 will suck, compare it to updates, they're months behind on updates and they sucked, they're years behind GW2 Updates, it'll suck.
Diablo III.

I wouldn't mind world peace and a green sky. Another campaign is pretty much unrealistic at this point, given the 4 person live team. It's also not something I really want.
The current world is bloated enough, I'd rather have less titles to grind on more characters than to be forced to sit on the same character for another campaign's worth of titles for that damn KoaBD title.
And there's no "supposedly" beta for GW2. They had a date, it passed without a word, and Anet went silent. The only thing we know for is that there are a dozen or so concept pictures and enough backstory to fill 3 books. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if GW2 is a doomed, unworkable mess and the 3 books is the best we can expect.

The lack of news has frustrated me to the point that I am looking other places,
past month and a bit I have been participating in the Aion beta, and to tell you the truth we will see if I come back to GW2 when it comes out, if it does.
the fact that they released info about the game so long ago saying it will be made and beta testing will be coming. then like 1 year of no info other then those 2 concept art pics. I have lost faith, I don’t like to be left in the dark. I know a lot of people that feel the same way.
If they wait to long D3 will be out and they will lose a lot of there player base anyways.

Ugh
Skills get updated? Since when?
Definately wait for GW2. From what I've heard, there aren't that many people on the live team for GW1. If they had to make an expansion, it wouldn't come out for a while. And, if they took people from the GW2 team, GW2 would take even longer to come out.
I still wish we could see a bit of GW2, even if it's just a short gameplay video that doesn't really provide and information. Just to keep people interested. Also, if the beta doesn't come out by spring 2010, I probably won't play it.

The Guild Wars team and GW2 team are two completely different projects, if they made a new campaign/expansion for GW, it would not effect GW2's release at all.
Am I saying that I want a new campaign/expansion? No...True GW2 beta is in 2010, but's too close. It would be like they were desperately trying to keep our attention.
For now, I'm just fine with strolling around the world doing whatever I want and having my pet black widow Fluffy hump people's heads in PvP.

Well Anet did announce that they are working on making the game as good as possible, and that they aren't going to release much info until they're ready to put the game into testing. They said on GWW that the beta and more info will be coming 2010 or 2011 so you may as well not stress about the current lack of information. Considering all the time they're putting into Guild Wars 2 I'm hoping that it will be a great game. otherwise I'll be very dissapointed.
Lishy
I would rather they implemented more content updates, balances, and fixes. With more meta shifts too.
Gw2 would be delayed too much due to expenses needed for a bigger GW1 team to implement a big Gw1 expansion. However, a little bit more man power for the small things that are IMPORTANT is what is truly needed.

I'm also waiting to see what kind of "bonus" HoM is going to give you in gw2, to see if it's even worth trying to max a few titles.
EDIT: If I didn't like GW So much I'd not be as disappointed in what's been going on (or not going on) as I am.

This. If you're bored, play something else for a little while and come back. If you're still bored, deal with it? Guild Wars isn't the only game in the world. Sure, it's a little tired but hey, people are still buying it and people are still playing it. People QQing about no info about GW2 isn't going to make anything come out faster.
I like the mystery. The lack of information and the wait doesn't bother me a single bit. Sure, I'd like to play it, but that's not happening and I'm okay with it.

Many of the updates we've had involved cribbing people over from the GW2 effort and/or using stuff that had been made but not yet used.

GW2 Was announced in 2007, a beta was supposed to come in 2008. 2009 is already more than half dead. We all have a right to be angry.
I myself, would rather enjoy more expansion to the original game, I feel this game's lifespan isn't nearly as dead as the idea of guildwars2 actually arriving and there is sooo much more content that can be released in the main tyria map and hell, even factions IMO.
SOE Still releases expansions for their first EverQuest from 1998-1999, even though there is an EQ2. I don't know but I have the feeling GuildWars is far from done in terms of expansions.

What they should have done was continue to support GW1 with content while working on GW2.
Not necessarily campaign sized, they could have went for smaller more frequently released pieces of content, put their online store to good use with more micro transactions, continued to take in revenue and keep the playerbase occupied. Win-win situation.
Theres still plenty of potential room for expansion in the GW1 world that don't necessarily require the addition of more landmasses, professions and skills. An example could have been another god realm or a sorrows furnace like dungeon.

So, as I alluded to, I'd prefer for Anet to be more active and thorough in their skill updates (leaving out the dervish is not cool for instance) and balance of the game. AI and bugs should be looked at more closely aswell.
They want GW2 to have a level of polish before they put it out, but from GW1 I see no reason to indicate that it will be.
Simply, neither, and do what they should have done, polished GW1 before leaving it in the dust.

I have always felt that the reason Anet jumped ship to GW2 was because they simply did not want to deal with the numerous problems in GW1. Instead of going back to them to correct them, and refocusing on GW1, they almost completely left it hanging. Over the years since eotn release, the live team has been fixing things little by little, but in the overall scope of things there's alot that needs to be done. This is what concerns me about GW2 in essence. If they're not willing/slow to address problems in their original game, why should GW2 be any different in terms of attention?

If you don't think ANET has learned anything in the 4 years they have supported GW1 with the thousands of "new builds" they have made then something is wrong.
I dunno if you can imagine the difficulty of assembling a team of capable people (not to mention creative) and keeping them all working towards a common goal. So far they have done a wonderful job imo. Guild Wars 2 will be released when it is ready... Regina told us that the game is playable, so really, a beta could come at any time. With this overly-critical community, I wouldn't want to release it either, until I had something polished and proud to show off.

You're NCSoft. You have two options:
1) Get people to buy/stick with the cheap GW and pay you hardly anything while leaking small tidbits on GW2.
2) Get people to pony up the Aion fee for at least a few months by shoveling all your marketing forces into it.
You tell me which makes more sense.

However, were the bugs that deserved immediate attention tended to? From what I can recall of Anet's track record, for the most part they were. Although, I can honestly say I've never run into any bugs, whatsoever, in the three years I've been playing.

GW2 is going to be a disappointment... I know it... What's wrong with GW1? Give me more GW1 expansions please

Hell, I'd just be happy with ->A<- screenshot of GW2. Nearly two years of concept art and promises is rather irksome.
1 up and 2 down
As others have said before, we won't hear anything about GW2 at PAX and we won't hear anything about GW2 until Aion has been out in America for a couple months at least. Aion's release in NA is close, why would NCsoft let Anet advertise GW2 just so people will get excited for it and decide not to spend their money on Aion?
Just wait, once Aion has been released we start to hear more.

Now, you can choose to buy advertising to sell your game instead of buying geeks to spruce up your old game. The two may not necessarily be mutually exclusive, however. Additionally, you might be able to generate some revenue by sprucing up your old game with inexpensive new pay content.
The low risk strategy is to spruce up the old game. The high risk strategy is to market the new game. You're going to make a little money for certain by sprucing up the old game. You have a large existing fan base that is bored, but that will likely return for new content. By marketing the new game, you may recoup that investment with huge interest, or you may be throwing money away. It's hard to say in advance.
Of course, if you market the new game poorly, it's virtually certain that you're going to lose your development costs without garnering a return, so even if the game sucks you're probably going to end up throwing good money after bad. You're going to throw money at that problem, but it doesn't necessarily follow that you're going to do that at the exclusion of all other possible uses for your money.

GW2.
It might take a while before we can play it, but in about 2 months NCSoft is releasing Aion.
Yes, it's pay2play but a good timekiller between GW1 and GW2.
Once Aion is here, i will play that, until GW2 comes.

There is always tidbits of proper information for those who seek. Concept art exists of an aztec warrior, chronomancers, even a mount (http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/b/b0/Mount2.jpg).
Chapter 4 would have been Utopia... but I am under the impression most of Utopia will be recycled into GW2.
