By looking up names of Celtic Deities on the Internet or in some Celtic Mythology books. Most of the names have some connections to the GW profession, like Arduinna: Goddess of forests and hunting for a Ranger.

I like that.

I made a pun with mine.
Assassins are abbreviated sins, and a sin is a broken rule/law.

So, in short: Beg for forgiveness for your transgression = my name.

Raymond Varis - Raymond (just because) and Varis (Gee-Pop Varis from Morrowind's Mournhold expansion)

Blaire Everest - Blaire (I thought of Claire, but that sounded too girly) Everest (The only "Ever" thing that doesnt sound elf'ish)

Evening Reader - Evolved from Freeky Reeder which was a random name I thought up of while making a pre-sear necro

Father Nicodemus - Father (because in my story the villagers see him as kind of a pastor.) Nicodemus (just because)

Agent Strawberry - Because the default red dye at the time looked pink like strawberry milk, Assassin (This lead to many members of my guild having Agent [Fruit] names for the Factions Beta)

Daniel The Villager - He's a villager, and he kinda makes me think of the Bible

Clarice The Bridely - Clarice (because someone said it in M*A*S*H which I watched that day) also she's Daniel's wife.

Wendy Allyson - Used to be an ele named Wendy Wispwind (WWW plus all winds) now she's a Mesmer. Allyson, just because.

It's for the most part just me thinking of names, none were too inspired. Though they all fit into my story:

Raymond married Blaire -> Then they adopted Evening "Reader" Everest who had run from her family because she fell in love with her brother.

Evening marries Joseph Everest -> She finds out she was adopted by the Everests in the first place so he wasnt really her blood brother.

Nicodemus admits to being Blaire's father -> Before the Everests adopted her aswell.

Crazy stuff like that. I later looked up the meanings of these names and they all fit. The craziest is Blaire, means "from the fields" or something which is precisely where she's found in the beggining of the story. Unintentional but awesome. I have a lot of luck with coming up with names.

I've been known as Konker online for some time now, so I just stuck with that, every character is named accordingly:

Konker I "Primary Prof", for example...

Konker I War
Konker I Ran
Konker I Mon
etc.

Look up the wiki bosses lists for the profession you want to make, mix around some names untill you get something good. Ignis The Pestilent from Ignis Effigia and Vyrrgis the Pestilent. Alitta Shepard from Alitta Guilebloom and Shepherd of Dementia.

Count Operoe (E/x - Prophicies): An abbreviated version of my gaming name Operative 14. The 'Count' comes from an old family title (yay!) we had recently discovered then. My first character on my account. I had made another character on a friends account to try the game, and that characters name was Count Opereo, same thing just that I was making this character while the knowledge that he had been deleted was going through the server and I couldn't use the name. :/

Count Darktan (W/x - Prophicies): 'Count' became my signature name, Darktan is the name of a leader from a Terry Pratchet book. And no, the character is quite pastey.

Countess Reapera (D/x - Nightfall): My first lady character, Countess carried over, and Reapera is like a feminine form of Reaper I came up with.

Countess Oriona (R/x - Nightfall): Named after Orion, the constellation of an archer, and it also has Egyptian conotations that I always associated with new characters in Nightfall.

Countess Aurumluna (M/x - Nightfall): Named after a friends monk which I greatly admired (the same friend who lent me their account). Their character is Goldmoon, I just translated it to Latin and called her Aurum(Gold) Luna (Moon)

Countess Aneiontei (A/x - Factions): Named after another friends Assassin, we were sort of trying to create twin characters. Their name was Shadowstep, mine is a loose Japanese translation. Anei(Shadow I think) Ontei (Step - though a musical meaning, not as in walking)

Countess Necrosia (N/x - Nightfall): She's a Necromancer, basically the same deal as with Reapera. Put a feminine twist on the professions name.

There have been a slew of other characters, both PvE and PvP that I've deleted since I've started. The two that stand out are:

Countess Nehkebet (P/Mo I think): Named after an Egyptian goddess of..umm.. health and support I think.

Count Khonsu (P/Mo again): Named after an Egyptian god of support and well being, I think.

My Main, Miranee Clearwater: Miranee is a character in the series of fantasy books I'm writing. Clearwater was a nice, generic aftername that fits her being a monk.

Tiersu Kellith - Just... random really. I make up so many names writing fantasy that after a while they just happen. (Tiersu's a Ritualist)

Miila Kiy Telquin - Ranger I'm going for Survivor with. In the language I'm developing for my books, 'Kiy Telquin' would translate as 'the legend'. So, Miila the Legend.

Kwyax Mysgyny - Sometimes I hate vowels. (Dervish)

Khara Deathtouched - Had a story for her. Growing up in Ascalon, she has a near death experience, and loses all pigmentation in her skin and hair. So, literally touched by death. She's a necro. Not hard.

Goddess Umbaya - Mesmer, with another reference to my books. Umbaya is a goddess

Lilly Firetamer - Guess what prof she is...

Copper Chimes - I have a sort of copper-colour theme running with her.

Natalia Lifesbane - Obligatory Assassin. Lifesbane sounded pretty nifty. I rolled through several sins before I decided on an appearamnce.

Qyirantira The Cold - Another Necro. I'd have deleted her by now, but she's my oldest char, and there's sentiment. Plus, her name is taken from one of the baddies in my books. Gotta love evil, callous necros... Only I got bored.

I tend to use a crude online Latin translator, but usually only as confirmation.
An exception would be Xenos Mortis - Xenos is Ancient Greek.

When I first started playing Guild Wars in 2005, I remember creating my first character (at the time, having no idea what I would see next). I didn't spend much time on the cosmetic setup....just your basic male warrior type. Didn't want him to be bald or have purple hair. So I wizzed through that part, then I must have sat at the name section for 30 minutes before I decided on a name.

A few thoughts come to mind when I create a new name: First, what will people call me in chat? Second, I need to use something common on all my characters.

After a half hour thinking, I decided I wanted something relating to Raziel (character from the game "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver", one of my favorite games of all time). Of course, the first few tries ended in failure because the names were in use! GAHH! Then I figured I would alter it's spelling some, and finally ended up with "Raziell The Fighter". After joining the guild, folks started calling me "Razz" or "Razzie", so it stuck. The name "Dark Razzie" is the name of my Assassin. My ranger is "Hunter Razz", and my ele is "Raziel Lives" (a pun since my ele seemed to DIE much more than he LIVED LMAO).

Fun topic, keep em coming!

Most of my names were just something I thought of. I use the same surname "Porlest" for a few of them. A couple others were relating to something I like or a nickname of sorts.

I usually build up very common names, using an english name as the first name, and something which refers to the class or some other fantasy thing as the second name.

Kathreen Whitelight / Swahnee Shyhamster (really silly one :P) --> monks
Elizabeth Soulstorm / Aanon Comes Mortis (the last two mean "death's companion" in latin) --> necros
Diane Knox --> elementalist
Calidor Clunther (completely invented one) --> ranger
Nyia Sazaki / Shania Whirlwind --> warriors
Caris Allman (the first name from Ken Follett's "World Without End", the last from The Allman Brothers Band) --> mesmer

A nice trick is to make brothers and sisters (repeating the last name) ;D like Leeyan Soulstorm and Maya Sazaki.

For PvP characters i use something easier, like Cal Is Back, Swa PvP, Aanon PvP, etc..

Way back in the stone age I was installing Far Cry while listening to Primus's My Name Is Mud, so I named my character there Mud. The guys I played Far Cry with moved on to GW so I stayed with Mud in some form or another on most chatacters.

I got really bad at making names at one point so i started taking people's names in outposts and chopping them in a few pieces and putting them together to make crazy weird unique names that didn't even resemble the name i took it from. I actually never really used any of those names though...

I used the name I've been using since I was 11. I just added the PvP/PvE at the end differentiate between the two (well that and the fact that my name needed to be two words). I didn't bother with the whole 'I need to get into mid-evil times characters' because I knew I wouldn't have been able to think of a name that fits that.

Ying Tze - came from my friend and I creating identical bald little monks. He had just come back from holiday and travelled on the Yang Tze river (so that was his character name). We decided on Yin and Yang, so Ying Tze was born.

Yingdiana Jones and Ying Norris - came from the above (since all that know me just call me Ying), as I am known to venture boldly into battle....

Bows And Arrahs - originally I wanted "Bows And Arrows" for my ranger but since someone had nicked it, this was the closest I got.

The Sinful Scythe - I was in a bad mood when I created my running derv

Covert Creeper - CovertC has been a previous gamer tag so decided to make it into a nice play on the sin theme.

Grubers Little Tank - reference to a UK TV show from the late 80's ('Allo 'Allo). One of the German Officers (Lt. Gruber) had a fondness for his armoured transport and nicknamed it "his little tank". So the warrior was made (being as big as possible too).

Semaj The Sinister - my necro could have been anything but I was drunk and just reversed my RL name.

Some others I have are Storage Char Nine (homage to Seven of Nine), Minipets R Us (nuff said) and others that are too boring to mention!
