This is just cross-promotional. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal and you can imagine that when Guild Wars 2 gets released maybe Aion will also feature something cross-promotional.

Considering that GW has no fees and AION does, advertising AION in GW makes sense since it might convince people to make the step from GW to AION. Free to pay to play.
But AION to GW2? To advertise a F2P game (that is supposedly in DIRECT competition with it!) in a P2P game?

If Aion didn't have a monthly fee I'd buy it in a heartbeat, and I would have considered buying the collector's edition because of the GW wings. Oh well.

I only have regular Aion edition pre order. Collectors edition was overpriced for getting hardly anything for it.

What Arenanet is not realasing sending ppl to Aion is a wrong move on long run. How many ppl playing Aion will return to GW2 when they will have already all their roots in Aion.

It is purely cosmetic. You do not need it, and they are not forcing you or twisting your arm to get it.
If they had been ridiculous enough to add a gameplay benefit (speed boost, armor, whatever) then it would have rightfully raised hell. They didn't. It's fine.
I'm fairly sure they have weighed up the pros and cons of this. NCSoft must have offered ArenaNet some tasty bonus for them to agree to it.

I guess the problem I have is that you know it was Anet staff who coded this. This is time better spent on things promised but undelivered: XTH, the second content update.
People have asked for emotes tied to things like KOaBD, and various other things.......only related to GW.
I guess I'll just have to have my peace and get over it, but this is another example of Anet alienating their base. This continues a pretty impressive streak.......

I am going to buy the Aion CE anyway, I've been playing the beta since Euro week 1 and its the only other mmo I've tried that I could stand for more than 3 hours. But to apply this offer to PHYSICAL purchases only? Do NCSoft not realise quite how incompetant retailers are when it comes to MMO releases? Factions CE release anyone? There's a reason people like digital downloads - its quick, it works and its harder to play the blame game so studios/publishers get it right. I won't be changing my plans to digitally purchase regardless of a promotion.
Second... what the hell is this going to do for Guild Wars. Is anyone's character (besides the elementalist specially crafted to show off the wings) actually going to look good with them? I can't see my warrior or ranger looking amazing with these, and for what? NCSoft advertising their game inside a subsidiaries game at the expense of my convenience.
Anet: I hope the money is worth it. My expectations for GW2 just went up a notch.
