I've been trying to find a site that gives me Canthan phrases that I can use in my fan fiction, but as of yet, I've had no luck. Does anyone have a list of phrases that are in the Canthan language that they could post? Like, stuff Vizu says, and Yijo's mother's greeting to Togo. Thank you

The charr's gods. Yep. If you've seen the burning effigy's but not completed the game, GTFO of this thread quick! Well I completed the tyria game...only to find i need to kill MORE titans. Well I got to the ascalon 1 and on first try got about 50% through it. Then I thought, "HAAAAANG ON A SECOND." Why on earth are the charr suddenly level 24? And why are the titans not ripping them apart? Ever noticed the shape of the burning effigy's of the charr's longlost gods? Those are the exact same shape as the Armaggedon Lords. The charr must've thrown themselves at the feet of the titans when they saw them, so the titans spared them. I dunno how the charr became lvl 24 though. Maybe the Lich or some other force uberized some of them? Discussioness.

The Charr are level 24 in order for it to seem like the war in ascalon has escalated in your absence/to provide you with more of a challenge. Yes, the charr do worship the titans, that is what their effigys represent (see:Presearing).

You know on the tahnakai temple mission you fight the heroes of cantha? Well, when you complete it you can go back and have a lovely chat with them. Well, also, when you complete the game, Togo dies. Once the game is completed go back to the explorable tahnakai area. Find the Kaolai ghost. Not there? No he isn't. Who's that standing in his place?

The Charr have to Effigys they burn, one is the titan, burning as it does. And the second is thought to be either the lich or the mursaat. If it is the mursaat then it is on fire to symbolize the Titans destroying them.

Ok, after extensive research, i believe i have a good theory about who created the Temple of Balthazar in Maguuma jungle. i belive that the temple, was indeed, made by Druids.
But Algeron, the Druids worshipped Melandru, not Balthazar you say.
Well, i believe the temple's creators were not true druids, at least in not the whey bread eating, brown cloak wearing, long bearded old guy sense.
I think these druids are actually from neighboring Kryta. You see, i think that the Temple builders where actually a group (cult maybe?) of mages, alchemists, elementalists, etc. that were forced out of Kryta by thier magic fearing brothers. I say that this group weileded magic because they built the walls of thier temples with shiny, reflective materials. These materials are found no where else in the world, except in these two temples. I also believe that it is actually regular stone that has absorbed some of the magic that its builders possesed. This is why the Krytan stone only reflects normally, like a mirror would. While the Balthazar temple stone actually has bands of light moving across it. Because the magic of the Druids was more potent when they built thier jungle temple, than when they built thier Krytan one. Also, if they left near to when the Musaat came to power, that would explain why there is an eye of janthrir in the temple. Not because it was a Mursaat temple, but because these Druids HATED the mursaat. That is why there are 3 clawed pincers surrounding the eye. To show that they oppossed the Musaat. Also, the eye appears to be on a kind of stage. So that whenever a memeber of these druids stood on the stage, they would stand on the eye. They dislike the mursaat because the Mursaat would have definetly have removed any threats to their rule early on. Threats including magic wielding druids.

Another point, I believe that the builders were originally Krytans becuase i have actually found an old Kryatn temple near Giant's Basin! While the architecture of this temple and the Balthazar temple are quite different, they both are made of the same reflective material. (as mentioned above) I have also found certain sections of lion's Arch that are made with this material. The architecture of the two temple is different because, although these Druids were Krytan, they adopted bits and peices of the Melandru (the true druids) druid's culture. One piece being the love of nature that they had. (being disciples of Melandru) As you can see, the jungle Balthazar temple is very curvy, almost rising out of the ground more than standing on it. While the Krytan temple, built before they went to the maguuma, is very hard, and made mostly out of geometric shapes. It dominates its landscape, instead of emulating it.
But, while these Krytan-druids did emulate druid architecture, they did not adopt the druid's god. This is why it has a Balthazar staute in it.

So that is my 2 cents. If you have any questions, please post them. As it is very, very possible i have left something out of my opening post. Hopefully this new evidence will put to rest the mystery surrounding The Temple of Balthazar.

Hey,

not sure if this has been posted before (if so: my apologies).

Over a year ago, I discovered this cool NPC (a collector) in Majesty's Rest (Kryta):

She is named after the character of Isabeaux (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) and her lover, the knight Navarre (played by Rutger Hauer) from my all-time favorite fantasy movie "Ladyhawke" (1985).

I just had to post this after all for the coolness of it (kudos to the game designers for apparently loving this movie as much as I do).

ok... your just making up random jiber-stuff

the druids never hated the mursaat the druids packed their bags and left long before the mursaat were ever there. that first pic of the temple was made by the white mantle not a cult. and as for the reflective stone i have no clue wtf that is about

I smell a(nother) loose end, hope Anet gets around to tying them up instead of making new with future chapters

-edit-

I doubt the topk is the same tomb mentioned there since the people in the desert weren't ascalonians. Although it is an interesting possiblity that the portal in Drascir would take them to the desert where they made the tombs.
Anyway, I think the topk is the best designed area in the game, I'd love to see other areas like it in the future.

Most likely dialogue that got put into a wrong collector.

I wouldn't say the collector looking like the fortune teller is unusual, considering how the necromancer headmaster in Shing Jea also uses the same model.

our beloved Turi Ossa mentions that the Magronites failed to Ascend in the Desert, however, in the PCgamer mag, it mentions that the Margonites are servents of the Evil God.

So, how did they turn from failed ascendents into their current state?

and... how do you think Glint may play a part in nightfall, seems like a loose end to me.

*wonders if glint is the Evil God...*

The Margonites appear to be much like the biblical Babylonians, which also seems to fit the setting of Nightfall. They created a large tower to try to 'physically' ascend to the gods, probably to try to be equals, as the Babylonians did in the famous "Tower of Babel" story.

If it follows that story even a little, it could mean that the gods (the fab 5, possibly against the wishes of the sixth) became angry at them and struck them down, possibly disfiguring them to the forms they're in now (if the were human). That might be the point at which they relinquished worship of the 'fab 5' gods and decided to only hail their one god, the sixth.

That's all speculation, of course, but it sounds resonable, I think.

Oh yeah, as far as Glint goes, who knows? But if she plays a part, then I think Kuunavang should, too. Both seem to have their hands in the fates of all the main characters and heroes. Remember, Glint was more of a prophet, while Kuunavang seemed to interract a little more personally, and physically (through the use of celestial skills).

Kuunvie was just a very ticked off girl for having someone like Shiro take over her

Glint allows things to go on as they must be and doesnt want to interact with the mortals unless she has to. Which could be how Kunnvie sees it also.

I'm sure we'll see the Margonites in Nightfall and thigns expanded that we've seen in teh desert.

Alright, since I'm sure Nightfall's intricate story plot has been in the works for a long time now, most noticeably The Darknesses taking over the Tomb of Primeval Kings, I'm going to use a very good imagination to see if I can't bring in the most wild story line that might seem absolutely absurd... but at the same time work within a good amount of reason to make you think, "AHA! So that's what they were planning all this time!" I'm going to delve into history of Tyria and Cantha and find out all I can and create the best story line possible and see what I can come up with that could possibly be somewhat the actual storyline of Nightfall or further chapters. Without further ado...

---

The Lost Story of a Great Warrior

The Guild Wars were at an end, and the mighty charr invasion was occuring. Looking at the geography of Ascalon, it's quite clear that during the time of the searing some of the people could have evacuated by boat in the rivers around ascalon heading south over the mountains believing them to be the Shiverpeak mountains and end up coming into the Crystal Desert. Now it's quite clear that when people die they turn into ghosts, and there are quite a few ghosts in the desert and a few in ascalon. I'm not saying that these two are directly related, but when you consider that there is a known portal into the under world in the northern Crystal Desert, it is possible that an Ascalonian might make it this far, even in death. Now, imagine that events might occur during this process and several surviving Elonian Tribes take in a lost Ascalonian orphan child by the name of Gwen back to Elona after her mother may have died and entered through the portal into the Underworld? Coincidence? I think not. Gwen could become a serious new character in the storyline, and the puzzle pieces fit together quite well.

Abbadon's Mouth, What you forgot about it

Read this article completely, you would be surprised how many times it relates loosely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_mythology

Abaddon has also been considered the Hebrew name for the Greek god Apollyon.

There is an outcast god, and what we know about him is very limited. According to Greek Mythology, which is quite similar to Guild Wars, the gods overthrew the titans and sent them into the underworld to be kept by Hades.

I am working on getting a good theory on it, but there's a lot of information on Abbadon and Greek Mythology and other links. This is my theory so far:

Abbadon was sealed away within the same seal as the titans, but some how when all the blood stones were thrown into the caldera, he was able to harness enough energy to release himself, and ever since he's been trying to regain his energy back. Now if you've seen the concept art of Abbadon, it looks more like a Seer than it does a Mursaat, and since they Mursaat were actually good in some way, then the Seers were bad in some way -- perhaps influenced by Abbadon. Later Abbadon supplied the book of evil that caused Vizier Khilbron to become evil and sink Orr down, and perhaps even became one with him. Notice that he had wings, and as we see now, so does it depict Paragons from Elona, so there's a possible relationship there. Perhaps we find the lost bloodstones, maybe not, but I've got a feeling that this is little more than coincidence, as it all ties in quite nicely.

Also keep in mind the blood stones represent Preservation, Destruction, Aggression and Denial. Perhaps Aggression and Denial will become spirits? Perhaps they're parts of names of current skills that when used together on the key stone does something? Probably not, but I do think it might be a little more than coincidence. I mean why was Destruction a unique looking spirit, Preservation is an Elite, maybe once we play into Nightfall we'll see how the seemingly useless primary profession skills might tie in with warrior skills a little better with Aggression and Denial. Maybe not, pure speculation.

This is all conjecture; because the Vizeier read a scroll "long hidden in the catacombs beneath Arah", and was not given a "book" by anyone.

I like what youre trying to do, but make sure your facts are 100% correct if youre going to fill in the blanks to the GW story.

Blood Of Orr [BoO]

Interesting thought. I love the theory in relation to Gwen. The connection to the old HoH being taken over... very good call. And lastly the comment about the four spirits... very interesting. That'd be so cool if something actually happened along those lines (though I doubt it).

First thing that came to my mind when I read this was maybe the Seer's race is the same as that which was fighting for Abaddon, the result of which caused the Crystal Desert to become what it is. Therefore, the Mursaat were those fighting against them and in even more ways were good. So:

Mursaat protect the world from Abaddon returning.
The Seer (and race) fight for Abaddon's return.

Those two pieces fit nicely together (especially because if that were true, many of the implications would fit the typical RPG you-were-helping-the-bad-guy-all-along theme).

What's bugging me is how does Glint play into all of this?
Does the Fortune Teller have anything to do with... well, anything?

As for purely speculative questions:
Could Orr be at all involved?
Could Saul D'Alessio have any relation?

I don't know whether this has been done before, but I put together a side-by-side timeline of the histories of the first two chapters, up to the point where everything starts. There is a 510 year difference between the two calenders used between both continents.

Once I get my hands upon a timeline history for Elona, I'll add it. Then all three can be viewed together.

I know that its not overly exciting, but I thought a few people might find the side-by-side listing of events interesting.

Hrrmn. There are some interesting coincidences there... and the question is, how many of them are actually coincidences?

Going back in time:
The Luxons and Kurzicks stopped talking to each other within five years of the start of the Guild Wars - respectively the worst human-against-human conflicts in Cantha and Tyria that we know of.

Shiro's betrayal was twenty-one years after Lord Odran entered the Rifts...

The first Ascended Canthan Emperor comes immediately after the Exodus.

It should be interesting to see how many such coincidences pop up when we see the Nightfall timeline...

Here's something I stumbled across one day about 11 months ago. It's something most people never notice.

It's obvious to most people that post-sear Ascalon city is aorund the pre-sear area, but it's not quite the same city. If you've ever wondered where, exactly, post-sear city is located, read on!

Follow these instructions to see the magic:

1) Make a character in pre-sear.

2) Stand in front of Tydus in Ascalon City.

3) Off to your left, there should be a large reservoir of water. Walk over the the edge and take a peek at it. Try to look beneathe the water, and examine the geographical features.

4) If you still don't see it, walk down the staircase leading into the water, and walk around a bit. The different perspective might help you see.

5) If you still can't see it, allow me to explain. Looking under the water at the contours of the land, you can see that it matches the post-sear land perfectly. Furthermore, across the reservoir there is a little bit of land sticking up, and a staircase behind it. That spot=where Tydus sits in post-sear! Off to the right, you can see the post-sear entrance to the arena. The small set of stairs you walk down to get into the water is the portal to the city in post-sear. Once you're in the water, directly to your left is where the henchies chill at, and a little farther is where the Xunlai Agents take up residents in post-sear.

6) Marvel at this discovery and be amazed.

7) Ask yourself this question; Is this a case of plot continuity and attention to detail, or just saving time on making the game by re-using terrain?

The post searing Ascalon City is situated in the old riverbed of pre-sear Ascalon City.
And yes outside where the Gargoyles roam is where the old Ascalon City used to be, standing beautiful.
Sardelac is situated where Ashford Abbey was and outside the beautiful village has been destroyed, now the grounds where elementals and Grawls run rampant.

Turai Ossa, a well known Kournan Warmarshal. He defeated Palawa Joko (the undead king) in the Battle of Jahai and led the pilgrimage to Crystal Deserts.

That NPC might be referring to the fact that Crystal Desert is in north from Elona.
