To everyone who says Anet has killed then fun.
josh5813
Just stop already.
To that question no they haven't killed the fun. They just rid of the builds that took advantage of the game. I give credit to the players that put the builds together in the first place. I think Anet saw those builds much like a "God Mode" cheat in a video game. Where players took very little if no damage. So where the fun in that if you knew you would be unstoppable even if you went into a high level areas. They got rid of them in hopes it would make players actually work together and play/farm an area together instead of alone.
Like many other people have said, Guild Wars has been online for over 4 years now and unlike WoW who adds new content constantly nothing has really change in Guild Wars. There is only so many times someone can play the same thing over and over again before they get bored and stop playing.
All I really see in the chat anymore besides the mindless chatter is "Can someone run me here" "Can someone run the mission for me" or them just asking for a high lvl item. I rarely see "Looking for group to do mission." I remember when I first noticed that Nick was put in the Sulfurous Waste in Nightfall how there where many low lvl people asking to be run to that location from Kamadon and when they where told they had to complete 75% of the game just to get there, they started to throw temper tantrums because they had to play the game.
I personally think the nerfs are just Anets last ditch effort to actually make players play the game and not just rely on one player to do all the work for them, at least until Guild Wars 2 comes out.

and u been a member here 14 days...so guildwars age of less than a year...come back after 3 years.
SC has become a part of the game whether its liked or not...where there is night there is day etc etc if anet didnt want this to happen they wouldnt have invented the sweet boosts or the consets or even half the skills themselves to work with eachother!
but suddenly with 'apparently' 12 months of GW left they remove the part that alot of 3+year old players enjoy (yes there is alot who dont SC i know)...but alot do....i cant understand why unless there trying to get people bedded back into playing balanced for GW2...but even then the skill chains apparently are gonna be different.
i dunno i just think they made this descision far to late and its made thousands...yes thousands (dont ask for proof just think about how many only SC'd and now cant, u will get a rough answer) play this game less than 1 hour a day if not quit al together.
so yeah i am moaning as a game i liked just became stale and boring...imagine buying a ferrari then someone coming and slapping a restricter on it...u would be pissed too.

Yes, and Ursans and Spirit Bonding and 55 monks (the pre-scatter, Protective Bond ones) were also "a part of the game". And they changed. PvP focus was a part of the game, LOTS of things were a part of the game and were changed.
"Online experience may change". Game has been stale and boring for over a year, at least now players might try making new builds instead of one stupid SC build.
Also, many of the 3+ year gamers are either bored with PvE and moved on to PvP, or just left the game.

I really don't think sc are dead, more of just stalled. It's only a matter of time before a build is found that is more pug friendly. (cause a lot of the tweaks out now are not safe enough to trust your hard earned cash with pugs) If you are that determined to speed clear, I would think you would be playing with builds to figure out the next best thing. Those who are up to that challenge are doing just that, and having fun with it at the same time I'm sure. Those that were the pvx variety are the ones moaning because the sc's are "dead"

High five Axeman002 for finding out how long i've been on the forums. I found out about this website not to long ago and tried to steer clear of the forums do to users like you. You troll people who don't agree with your view on something but at the same time you post up a sob story on how you spent all you money on a new computer for Guild Wars and how they broke your heart and now you are quitting PC gaming do to the nerfs just to have the thread closed in less than an hour.
I've been playing Guild Wars for over 3 years now and I seen the game change a lot over the years. It went from people trying to play the game together to just people playing the game alone or having someone do all the work for them.

People were playing guild wars only for grinding titles and pimping their characters for the come of guild wars 2. If Anet isn't willing to add new content to the game, why the f**k would you expect us to do fort ranik each day, just for the fun of it? No new content added= time to farm for our HoM in guild wars 2, I beg you pardon if anybody can reply to that.

Well IMO ppl did play without SC's, but now they don't want to play...
It's not that they can't farm or grind. It's still doable, it's just harder. But some people act like they can't even play. GW is a big enough game. If You can't SC - try to play UW, FoW normally.
Isn't it good? No more GODLIKE based gameplay, but more Skill-like...

I understand many people like to play alone. I do. I rather rely on robot henchmen than real people who have no idea what they are doing. I think they wanted to get rid of the builds that aloud people who played alone to just dominate the game.

In your analogy, you're buying the ferrari ostensibly because it's fast, so someone coming by and putting a restricter on it would be defeating the point of your purchase. If you bought GW so that you could SC or farm for hours on end, that's your fault, because it's not the point of the game. Adapt to the (plentiful) new SCs, or go play another game. If repetition is fun for you, you need to examine why you found it fun.

Time kills the fun. The game degrades. People end up holding on to one or two things that still are somewhat enjoyable. Once ANet gives those the axe, it gives the illusion that there's nothing fun left in the game for them when really, they weren't having a fun experience from the game as a whole in the first place.
Deakon
For me it stopped being "fun" about a year ago. I didn't start playing until after NF so most of my time was spent getting a lvl20 for each class. Got some chaos gloves for my monk (my main toon) and a tormented shield for my warrior. Other than that, nothing worth much in my inventory. Then after announcing GW2 and the hints of the HoM tying in, I had a new reason to play. I started grinding titles. I had already done UW, FoW, Tombs, The Deep and Urgoz' both in NM and HM with alliance groups. (I've never participated in a SC that I'm aware of.) Managed to get 15 titles on my monk before I burned out on it. Tried to get into higher end PvP but crappy internet and a steep learning curve made it frustrating. I don't like playing games that are frustrating... that's what I'm trying to escape. lol So... I started farming and buying things just to kill time until GW2. I'd still do JQ or 600 a dungeon for fun but I'm nowhere near wealthy. I've always had less than 300k. I started selling any z-keys I'd get (usually no more than 2 or 3 a week) and got to participate twice in the XTH before it was laid to rest. (even bought a second account that's now used for nothing). Now the 600/16-16 is too much trouble to even bother with given the crappy rewards.
Anet didn't kill the fun... they just took away the only reasons I was still playing. Like I said... it stopped being fun a long time ago. I haven't logged in a week.

I agree with Josh. The only problem here is that GW1guru is filled with QQ SF trolls. How many are they? 50? 60 players that whine all the time? The rest dont visit here anymore for that reason. In GW2guru they are afraid that after GW2 comes out all the trolls will move there. It realy is pathetic when i hear statements like "there are only 10 viable builds in the game and Anet nerfed half of them" Try to use your brain for a change. There are no useless skills...just useless minds. And you can see that iam right on that part because of the "whats the best farming build for that?" or "any new SF build?" threads that open up and close all the time.
Plus you have to understand that GW isnt something you need to play all the time. Once you do everything on the PvE side you either PvP only or stop playing till new PvE content is released. It is as simple as that.

Amen to that... I may be new in some aspects of the game but I still seem to understand alot more than some older players in the game some I trust my Char. life to a henchy or a Hero (Preferably hero), because I know at least they are programmed to know moderatley how to protect themselves instead of a tag-along human just wanting to get the gold drops other players actually worked for

Second, I almost choked on my drink when I read "there are no useless skills...just useless minds". Get your head out of your ass and give me a break from this snobbery. Someone with your mindset posted the exact same thing several years ago about Persistence of Memory, and was shown to be a complete blowhard because the skill WAS a piece of garbage. Show me those godly builds for Persistence of Memory, Lacerating Chop, Swirling Aura, and all the other equally crappy skills that other skills outclass ten thousand fold. You say they aren't useless, so show me the builds for them. They MUST have a use, right?
The funny thing is I sort of agreed with some of your post, but the "I'm better than you" aura coming from it just stank to the high heavens.

Remember kids, it's only whining when the other person does it.

I always blamed the bad stuff in GW purely on the players. Hell, i wouldn't even notice the stuff that is always complained about here because i just accept the game in whatever state it's currently in and then have a ball with it. I just love it for what it is.

Ofcourse they have a use. For expample Swirling Aura can be used on spesific missions when you face tons of ranged attackers. They seem useless for general use but for specific situations they are damn jewels. One of the fun side of GW is that you can modify your character and heroes to face every situation.

Unless your point was "it still has a use". I can have a slingshot, but if I have a warehouse of rocket launchers, too, the sling is useless.

GW was less fun for me when they added Heroes. Prophecies only, was when I had most fun.
So nothing changed for me. I have played this game since 2005. And after completing the stories and doing alot of things in Hard mode. (including several farms and speed clears). I decided to play 90% pvp. And I love it, It's so much more fun then pve.
I can understand that alot of people don't like pvp. So my suggestion is to try other games. There are so many MMO's out there that are also alot of fun. GW has so much to offer for such a low price, that we shouldn't be complaining at all. I'm really sick of all the whiners.
@people who say pvp is all about elitism.
It's not. Alot of people like to play competive. When you play a mini game on internet. You want to get highscores etc. pvp'ers have the same mentality. They want to get better at their profession, and win against other players. That's all.

Or you could just use Mental Block, which doesn't take attribute points in a pretty crappy line(in PvE), renews itself, recharges faster, can be used by any profession, and actually does something against melee attacks. Anet is reading Wike comments and forum posts to decide what skills needs to be balanced. Sound ok but... So many people so many opinions. Look at the posts after a nerf. Will it ever lead to a reverse? No, because there are as many posts supporting it. In fact, whatever Anet decides, they are always right! And THAT is the main reason why people who don't agree feel helpless aand Q-Q. I stated it more than once: if hardly any action was taken, there still would be as many pro's as cons. They killed the fun? They always do lol, no matter what. Anet is always right! Anet is always wrong!

What matters is *why* someone disagrees with a nerf, not just that people do. It doesn't matter if a thousand people say "DON'T NERF IT BECAUSE I ENJOY IT" if just one person comes along and says "nerf it because it completely breaks the game (and lists why)".
MMSDome
With this nerf A-Net has created more fun because it creates more bitch threads on forums like guru about how peoples lives are over because they can't mindlessly speed clear anymore. Now people have to make new builds and clear fow without a party of all assassins using a skill that makes you invincible.

Maybe you should re-read the dev notes again:
http://www.guildwars.com/gameplay/de...l_balances.php
All I see are statements about how one or two builds should not dominate team builds.
Good for WOW, constant content. Guild Wars no new content, really??? Thanks for the news flash. Shame on the massive GW Live Team for not putting out massive content updates.
Players have been asking for runs, missions, free stuff and so on for as long as I can remember, one month after the game started. Are you really trying to say that it is worse now, because of the Feb changes? Don't buy it. PUGs died looong ago.
Temper tantrums about getting to Nick, really? Nightfall has been out since since Oct 2006 and there are THAT many people that have not gotten to the Sulfurous Wastes in 3 Years, BS. Sorry man dont buy that one either.
Maybe you should find a new area to hang out while in game or maybe turn off local chat.

It's only players that kill game. They played game to only farm ectos... Well, isn't GW about playing with other people? I think that people that only farmed thought this game is only about farming... Go play MU Online, or WoW so You will only farm and grind levels... GW is about teamplaying. At least for me it was like this...

4 things to do in Guildwars...
1. play the game and gain titles until u reach the grindy ones that require money.....i am 2 titles from gwamm so im grinding for cash (or play the game properly and add up your 1 diamond 1 onyx gem for 4 hours work). ill take Grindy ty.
2.play pvp...i cant play this as i end up screaming like the angry german kid and punching holes in my wall.
3. Speedclear...for now this is down until new builds are made for about 4 or 5 areas but still most dungeons are bummed.
4. Quit and find new games....the option many will have chosen.
**funny how i made a thread exactly like this...but about how they nerfed the fun before this post, yet it got closed and this stayed open'..i suppose this one may be more for bigging the GW team etc up so it will stay open**
and the licky licky brown nose trophy goes to..................

Three of those options are mainly regarding PvE, something that was never meant to hold longevity.
Just because someone isn't playing it doesn't mean that they no longer support the product. It could just mean that they beat the game.

The thing I love about Guild Wars is replay value. When you hit level 20 in this game, you are just beginning to finally play it. When you 20 in a game like WoW, you're doing teh same shit over and over until you hit 70 and if you're like me, you're done with it already.
Another thing that's great is it isn't a grind it out game. Although some builds and titles are just "Do this thing constantly", I see Anet's "nerfs" as a way of increasing the skill required to play this game.
In a game like WoW, the quests are as lame as "Go kill 5 billion boars to give me 3 pig eyes. Even though every boar has 2 eyes the drop rate must be really low so this quest is extremely gay". In Guild Wars, the quests and missions have many interesting skill required things. In WoW, the whole game, even sometimes the PvP, is 1,2,3. In Guild Wars, you're given 8 skills and only 8 skills for a reason - to require skill.
Skills that gave "God Mode" (IE SF) basically removes the need of any other skill (in PvE) that gave healing and defense.
Lastly I agree with EPO Bot. It takes a bunch of people to complain to get other people complaining. I don't start ranting about video games until I start looking at other peoples whiny point of view. Don't like it? Deal with it or the door is on your right.

You people are red engine retarded.
PvE has NEVER been BALANCED. EVER. Arenanet has never BALANCED PvE.
Sure, they've bombed the shit out of every skill known to man, blownup whole worlds with their nerfs, and made it look like a 3 year old attacked the keyboard and started clicking 'buff this!' to skills that we didn't even know existed, but they have NEVER BALANCED PvE.
Not one change has been made to a PvE area that was not 'fixed' by the community/build makers in under a week. When the playerbase kicks your ass, you fail at managing a game. Enough QQ, thats the word, like it or love it, or shit, even flame me. If your smart you'd know whatsup by now. This game was not planned to be PvE Oriented, and they even managed to bone the only other option: PvP.
You can all go back to searching PvX for PvE farming/sc builds and running the same shit over and over for 8 hours a day for the rest of your guild wars career now.

There is no definition of 'fun' for Guild Wars. I think this game is a flaming pile of dogshit and I'm just using it to pass time while avoiding boredome. I also enjoy posting on these forums at work/on my phone. Its that entertaining. A-Net hasn't killed the fun, they put a game out there, you retards bought it up like wildfire, as multiple people have stated already 'I have moar then 1 account lolz pro'. Not pro, you just told them their doing a good job when everything they've attempted failed beyond hard. At least put some thought into shit when you do it. They haven't killed the fun, you guys have just been making it up as you go along. If you keep a blind eye to it, you'll still have fun. If you dont, then you buff your hard drive with an uninstall and find a new game. Simple enuff. Wish I could, just low on funds.
And Another Edit:
'PvE Requires skill.' Thats like saying playing Chess against the computer for the 90th time on the same difficulty running the same moves over and over requires skill. I can red engine READ what the monsters ONLY option is before it does it if I go into the source code. PvE Requires Skill? Then your terribad at videogames.

Like many other people have said, Guild Wars has been online for over 4 years now and unlike WoW who adds new content constantly nothing has really change in Guild Wars. There is only so many times someone can play the same thing over and over again before they get bored and stop playing. |
And since you don't agree with how other people have fun we should bring up an oppression mechanism like in communist countries... because having fun in a 4 years old game by repeating the same thing over and over (= farming), should obviously be forbidden ("it's just wrong, it's for their own good, we're protecting them" said the dictator that knew better what other people should be doing).
Sarcasm mode off.
-----------------------
I find it funny how two or more of "these" threads arguing more or less pro nerfing are fine and still going....
while the mods closed at least two of the first page of the threads that argued against the nerfs.
How about that for mod bias?
So... and as this post is basically a reply to another post against the nerf (that was closed - go figure) I am adding my opinion here.
Before the "nerf" GW player base was more active/bigger and it is undeniable proven by a big downfall in: groups forming for UW, groups forming for faction farming both luxon and kurz side (the SC outposts are ghost outposts during the week barely find 2-4 teams going in the weekend) - this is also proven by the faction each alliance holds a town with (went down quite some), and the trading outposts like Kamadan are a lot less populated.
And although I was never pro or against any farming nerf... I fail to see the benefit of their last update, not to mention that I fail to see a benefit that outweighs the player activity loss.
So QQ more about things that people should be "forbidden" to do, or not allowed in the first place (farming/running/etc)... soon we'll get down to: people should be forbidden to play GW in any way shape or form because it's 5 years old and no one should still play it.
So turn it off now, why bother with incremental steps of nerfing?
