Player Base Immaturity Issues
Zerlina Ville
I bought the game yesterday (PvP Kit) looking for some nice PvP.
What I encountered was that in pretty much all my fights I entered there was some jackass calling me a noob, shouting out wtf?! idiot, retard etc...
Yes I am a noob, I bougth the freekin' game yesterday, what does he expect. Its not like he lost alot of his life to the fight which lasted for 1 min. Seriously, that kind of attitude is really putting me off from this game, its not nice playing a game trying to have a good time while half the people you meet call you a RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing retard.
I have never in my whole life as a gamer met a more unfriendly and immature community, it shocks me. I guess its the fact that the game is free, so all the leet kids are playing it, I dont know, but I dont like it.

Thats only very few and its actually the majority of the pvp community. Learn to ignore it and you'll enjoy the game as you kick their faces in, teaching them a thing or two about who the noob is.

I tend to respond with the same attitude, and laugh at them. But it still is quite annoying. I cant beat their ass yet because obviously Im still a noob. But Im getting better, gonna read up on some assassin tacts, builds and stuff later aswell.

Ignore them.
They're probably not as good as you anyways

Well the game is five years old so most people know all the ins and outs of skills and builds. If somebody goes into PvP on the first day they get the game they won't be any good at all obviously. If that new guy goes into a random team format, other team members probably won't appreciate somebody who doesn't understand anything about the game. Random Arena, for instance, is 4 vs 4. So if somebody on your team doesn't have any skills or equipment and doesn't know how to play, it's 3 vs 4 and you will lose (most of the time anyway). There go their points.
You'll get better as you play more, but expect more of the same behaviour until you have a satisfactory skill level.

Go to http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Read up on some builds, what equipt is required to run it etc
Enjoy winning

There's no way to difference between a new player and a player that is simply bad.
If you just started PvP you'll encounter the bottom end of PvP community; most players there are not new players but players that have been left behind either because of lacking skills or lacking social behavior. Add friendly and helpful players to your friendlist, join a PvP guild, and soon you'll meet far less immature, offending players.

What do you mean by there goes their points? Can we loose points from RA matches? what kind of points? Like ranking or something?

The vast magority of the GW player base are PvE, would like to get into PvP but sadly they experience the same problem as OP does when they try.
It's the biggest problem ANet never addressed.
What the game really needs is personal player ratings (like guild ratings) and an arena built around it ao that you only play people at your level, then everyone will be happy.

lol, yea i was in codex the other day... got called a noob at the beginning.... won and then got told I have no life....very hypocritical situation... many people in PvP use it as a self esteem booster... why I try to play late hours when all the kiddies are in bed.... I hope in guild wars 2... when you enter pvp... you should not be able to use local and trade... there is no use for them except to harass the other team.

stop sucking and people won't be mean to you
The Drunkard
Unless you get into a good-natured guild, most of the people in the lower pvp/pve areas are like that. If you are truly bothered by the insults I wouldn't reccomend playing this game, otherwise grow some skin and ignore them. The key to enjoying mmo's is learning to ignore people you don't like, since they can be replaced on your team by someone else.

PvP breeds that sort of person. You will find them in EVERY form of PvP.
Starcraft, COD, GW, there is no difference.
If you want to play in PvP you must be able to ignore the arrogant jacktards that infest the genre.
You could always report each and every one of them that utilize foul language and sit back and laugh as they are suspended for a duration. It's far more satisfying.

Welcome to online gaming. Seriously, go play any FPS, on a console or PC, and come back and tell me that it's any different. People are jerks, what else is new.
Still Number One
The game is just about 5 years old now and, like what has already been said, it is pretty much impossible for players to tell the difference between someone who is brand new to the game, and someone who is just plain bad. But quite frankly, neither one are fun to play with. People are generally more understanding if they know you're new to the game, and some will even try to point you in the right direction. Other people just don't care and will only see you as an obstacle preventing them from winning.
When you are doing PvP, you have to realize a lot of the joy comes from winning. It can get very frustrating losing over and over again, and even more frustrating playing random arena and getting bad teams over and over again so that nothing you do can help you win.
My advice is to just read up on guides anywhere you can find them, both guru and teamquitter.com have their fair share of guides and contrary to popular belief, the guys over there sometimes do give helpful tips to newer players trying to break into PvP. Like other people said, ignore the negative comments. They are going to come, even when you get better. Even good players get called out sometimes even if they did everything right. Some people are just really stupid and think anything they wouldn't do (whether they are correct or not) is the wrong way to play.
If you are feeling lucky, you could even try asking a player who you think did really well for some pointers and explain your situation to him/her. You'd be surprised how many people will stop to chat with anyone who presents themselves in a respectable manner. Don't be discouraged because of the rotten apples out there. Learn the game at your own pace and just have fun while doing it. With the right attitude, and proper social skills, you can go far in this game. Just have to keep your head on straight and learn from everything, good and bad.
Good luck and I hope your experience gets better!

In Jade Quarry I dont see that kind of behavior as much, its RA thats really bad, which is kinda wierd as a JQ match lasts for 15 mins while a RA match last only 1-3mins.
Before MMOs I played alot of Quake, Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike. But its so long ago I cant remember anymore, and I was a fairly decent player so they werent harassing me anyways. So it might have been bad. But I imagine CS was worse then Quake and UT because CS is more team based and Quake and UT is more action filled, so people didnt have time to chat.

Well there is no other way to get better now is there? I mean I cant go to the Codex Arena or those places because no one will let a noob join them. I bought the PvP kit, I obviously cant go and practice in PvE, so theres only 1 way to go. So I stick to Jade Quarry and Random Arenas. I dont have the skills, but I do think I have the equipment, I did buy the PvP kit, so I got alot of nice stuff for free, bought some runes and stuff and crafted me some new gear.

You are right though this kind of activity is what has and is contributing to the demise of GW1 and probably going to take a bite out of sales of GW2. I know I'm not buying into the same silly mess of a game this one has become.

That's a lie. You will be verbally abused no matter what. You could say the same about pretty much any online game, but I've played several others and feel that GW is one of the worst when it comes to this.
Thick skin is pretty much a requirment when playing with other people. Unfortunately, it's not something you can get from the Priest of Balthazar.
As someone else already said, disable chats and whispers. Try to ignore the abuse and focus on learning how to play. You may even want to invest in the PvE part of the game. PvE and PvP are totally different, but at least you can get to know your character(s) without all the abuse.

I feel terrible for you being limited to HA..where noobs are unwelcome[go international district btw] RA where cry babies LIVE and fort aspenwood/jade quarry. I wont include codex in the scenario because that arena was a flop..a BIG FAT FLOP! So just try to enjoy the game and ask people for input..most are actually helpful if you are not a jerk. pvxwiki will help some too.

I've been playing Left 4 Dead since Christmas and haven't had anybody act like a jerk or asswipe like in GW. Everybody plays pretty well and nobody calls anybody a jerk or retard or any of the other thousand things you read in GW pvp areas and places like Lions Arch, Kamadan and Kaniang every single day.

I'm a noob too and would like to get some PvP practice. I've found, it's impossible to get a match in Ascalon Arena for low-level characters 1-10 (or Shiverpeaks Arena 1-15) as not enough people are playing to get two teams together at the same time. I haven't found any other PvE arenas yet, and my experiences in the big PvP world have been embarrassing - I was reported for leeching before I even knew what leeching was !
I haven't settled on a Guild yet, but perhaps you can tell me whether it's possible to get some practice with people you know already (or can get to know) by Scrimmaging in a Guild Hall.
Is this correct?
I haven't done it yet, but can't some Guild Members just get together for a battle in the Guild Hall? So if a bunch of noobs want to play together and have a laugh and a chat about it afterwards, they can - without any random players getting upset at all the noobness.
If I'm right and any noobs want to meet up to Scrimmage, I'm happy to join in.
Is there a Guild that encourages noobness and scrimmages? There should be.
Get in touch if you'd like to noob-along-a-me.

The problem with pvp is that everyone has to mix together regardless of experience and ability.
If the players could just agree to leaving part of the pvp environment to beginners only, or at least not get so impatient with newbies in certain areas then the problem would go away.
I don't blame anyone especially for the problem I am pretty sure if the top professional football teams had to play in a league which included junior teams comprising of 10 year olds they would get pretty irate too.
I can only hope that anet get there act in gear in time for gw2s release and provide training areas for pvp as they did for pve if they made the rewards for playing in such areas poor or none existent I am sure the experts wouldn't bother to play in them.

honestly its like this in every game when you just begin to play
perhaps its more apparent in guild wars because pvp was originally designed to be what one did once they were done with pve, thus implying that the player had atleast some skill with the game
so honestly all that you can do is just ignore most of the people like others have said.
In addition read the wiki which has been linked already, go to http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page for build, and also try to find a guild

just copy paste a few builds that interest you from pvxwiki. yes most of those builds suck too, they are only popular against other pvxwiki builds. Once you get a feel for game mechanics and playstyle the game will work itself out for you. Yes you will be harassed constantly the whole time. I have played RA for almost 5 years for the casual roll the dice chance of getting a good team. It is quite enjoyable once you get past the fact you can't win them all and everyone will call you names regardless of how the matches turn out. Good luck, have fun and if you need someone to help you out in game with some build, play tips, msg me IGN Puddin Cheeks.

Just be aware that this will never change. When you are new people will call you noob. When you get decent at it, people will say you have no life. When you rupt something people will always call it rupt spam, when you use a hex people will say it takes no skill, when you quarter knock someone, people will call you a botter.
It really never ends, you just have to think about it in terms of winning and losing and not get caught up in the whining and moaning.
