Arenanet is getting a viral marketing campaign together, most likely for the 5th anniversary. (would appreciate it if someone would post the images)
They handed out fliers at GDC, and Emerald City comic con. The fliers had url's encoded.

http://www.guildwars.com/shining_blade/
Regina also made a post in her journal where she italicized 2 different words, obey and dismantle.
Later, the source was discovered to have 2 messages.
In the mantle page the message "Go, Discover Contentment. Truth is obedience.
In the Shining Blade page the message says "Mantle has discovered plans. Writing is on wall."
Since these fliers are posted on the gw1 site, it likely has little to do with gw2, but gw2 had the thread first.

A couple people

have posted about this elsewhere, but I thought I'd start it's own thread here since it deserves more attention.
Obey or Dismantle

Beta keys would be nice, but only a dream. I would love to try out GW2 PvP system even though I dislike GW1 PvP. I know everyone would enjoy it, and not call each other noobs as it common nowadays...
Obey means play the way Anet wants you to play: in SF sin speedclearing groups or pugs, no solo or small group play.
Dismantle means we are going to nerf to ---- your 600 monk builds.
~OR~
Maybe this is about giving people a robe because dismantle could be dis' mantle. A mantle is a robe, and "dis" is urban jive talk to English impaired people for "this". So "dis mantle "could be referring to "This Robe." I dont know about the Obey part, but I found www.obeyclothing.com and checked it out and they just have hippie shirts with adopt a dog, and right next to them, shirt with adopt a Haitan. So, my theory is that Obey and Dismantle refers to them giving us a traditional Haitan costume made out of woven dog hair and the microtransaction is being managed through that obeyclothing.com website.

#DISMANTLE
As for the event for 5th year... I am suspecting that Saul D'Alessio will return from his 2nd "Exile".

As someone already mentioned in GW2 Guru:
So in GDC we got Daniel's presentation with the artwork video. People think that they might have edited a picture and added a hidden word. Bottom line is this is getting interesting
#OBEY!
PS: To the people who dont find this interesting or dont want to take part in this event, there are tons of other threads to troll so please leave this one be, thank you.

Probably going to be some sort of red vs. blue thing. Give us a "faction" type thing with no real reward. We just get to go against the other "team".
Not to mention they'll throw in the 9.99 costumes, or 5.99/each deal for a while.
I'm all for micro-transactions, but really? Sheesh.
Edit: Or, they'll make a summoning stone for the White Mantle and Shining Blade.
Lol, m0ar summoning stones, pl0x.

I like that White Mantle picture.
But yeah, Anet's going to give us irritating microtransactions again. If this were Valve or BioWare or, you know, another dev that actually cares about the players, we'd be getting all that stuff for free. |
But yes on a side note I believe it is just going to be 2 costumes and nothing more. People talking about quests and new lore to link us to gw2 have you not learned anything from anet's past history....
Costume seems likely. It may be part of the 5th year celebration, or it may be a micro.... but I doubt it is what the hype is for. I expect the hype is more geared for GW2, most likely just lore. May get some quests, but even that seems like too much work for them to do. Lore would take nothing more than some dialog from NPCs, and they already have NPCs in the game that could cover that.
Some hype machine just started with those, it may be something really cool (new playable content, with good replayability and rewards) or something very lame (2 new costumes for sale for real $$).
I don't mind paying for real content if it's worth it (price proportional to amount of content, compared to for example EotN content and price at release), and costumes (a very likely inclusion in the update) could make some of the rewads, but, but it would really suck if the playable content was just a cheap placeholder put there just to hide the fact they'd be actually directly selling the costumes... (see BMP - practically selling infinite weapon generation, not playing content).
The potential for awesome things to come with this is great. Hope it's not wasted.

At the 5th anniversary the 'newly added content' will be a white mantle costume and a shining blade costume, both purchaseable from the NCSoft Store for $9.99, or $17.99 if you buy them in a pack.
There will also be given away 5 costume keys to some 'lucky' contest winners. The contest will be solving a small puzzle involving the flyers, and both the flyers and the puzzle will contain hints in regard to the future of GW1 and GW2.
The white mantle have discovered something about dragons and other GW2-related lore and are now making plans to use an Asura gate or something to travel back in time to conquer the world. The wall is either something (to be added) in-game with another hint, or another hidden message in the GW1 or GW2 websites.

I wonder if there will be anything surprising in addition to the obvious things I just came up with.

I'm split between taking the risk of getting excited and possibly being let down by even the most minor of things that could rub me the wrong way, or not feeling like this is going to be a big deal after all and then realizing that it's going to actually be something big.
Whatever the case, if I have to take sides between Blade or Mantle, it's Shining Blade all the way. I already know that the Mantle are just going to become not even a shadow of themselves by GW2's timeline, so I'll bank on the Shining Blade being the winning party in any kind of 1-on-1 brawl. And I like to win.
