GG on not only the banning of the bots, Anet, but also probably the funniest thing I've seen in GW.

I get the idea now. Too bad the images in the video are very small and it's hard to get all the details from it.

It was kind of amusing to read the in-game chat when they were getting banned.
MithranArkanere
Anet wanted to make sure you SEE bots being banned.
I only hope Dhuum keeps appearing when bots get banned it would be really amusing to see that once in a while...
...well, it's not like I like bots, but we'll have to deal with them anyways, so we may as well look at the bring side and have a little fun at their expense.

Something similar to this happened in AION. They used a giant Hamster instead. but same end effect. too bad i missed it. Keep up the good work.

Anyone here noticed how empty FA is even on ZC day? Maybe because of this? xD
Once again, bravo, and that video was awesome ty to whoever made it

Just what kind of bots were banned?

In that, too, GW is different.
We don't have banhammers.
Those are for pussies.
We have BANSCYTHES. XDDD

So were Dhuum's appearances only for botters who happened to be logged on at the time in which the bannings took place? Or will botters who log-in for the first time since the ban scythe struck manage to sign-in successfully, have their character killed by Dhuum, then be kicked out to the welcome screen again?
Funny stuff.

Gogo Banscythe! Love the idea, Anet.
Mangione
That's amusing.
Good riddance.
(I'm going to JQ to see if I meet the usual bots running around, maybe I'll catch one in a match and see him killed by Dhuum)

This is quite possibly the happiest day of my life in GW! I am so happy they are finally ending cheaters stranglehold in-game and doing it in a great way! DIE CHEATERS, and say hello to Gwen's mom for me!!

Those players who were banned while offline will find that they are unable to login.

Dhuum needs to stick around a little longer and pose for pictures. I haven't seen this in my own game yet.

Interesting that ANET finds this amusing. I have an account that got banned and never have botted, don't visit botting websites etc. The most unusual thing I do is run GWx2 and will sometimes use one account to help out another. Manually with my friggin hands on the keyboard. Thousands of hours of real, live time grinding on my account that erroneously gets banned for botting. I am little pissed off atm. How can they make mistakes like this when they say they are so careful to check its history etc. I can't think of a single thing I do that could be mistaken for a bot other than going afk sometimes and leaving my game on.
romer29
id also like a reason to as why i've been banned.the only thing ive used is texmod. and i really dont know if thats a reason to be banned. you arent the only one pissed off. there goes 10000+ hours of my life

Care enough to actually make sure everyone who was banned has actually botted? I think not. Tons of innocent people were banned today because anet didn't take proper looks at accounts.

Yeah! Finally some action to adress botters. I seriously hope they banned all players in {TROO}....
For players here that come to QQ that they got banned, 90% of you just botted and now play the innocent. If you are with the other 10%, the only thing you can do is to send an message to the Guild Wars support.
Good luck!

Regina!!! I love you!!!!!!!!!
Too bad I missed Dhuum taking the accounts away. Will he still be coming or were all the accounts already taken away? And for now on whenever someone is perma'd will Dhuum come in-game and claim them?
Dhuum should do /laugh after he reads them. xD

You can't accidentally kill someone that wasn't a botter right? What if they were working on Survivor title? haha

I guess we've been wrong for the last 5 years on what banning is called. It is officially called "ban scythe".
No longer shall it be named "The Ban hammer"! From this day on, it shall forever be known as "The Ban Scythe"! xD

Or are you relying on people telling you that they did nothing wrong?
I might sound harsh - but this is a serious issue, and I have been around for more then 4 years now.
Everytime people get banned, lots of statements pop up on the boards claiming to be innocent and that we made a mistake.
We did not talk about this ban in advance, because we worked hard on our methods for bot detection.
I repeat what I said earlier: If you think you have been wrongfully banned - contact support.
Bob Slydell
And you know what's sad, Regina? These are people fully aware of the risks, but they think Anet does nothing, then they come over to guru to throw up a QQ storm about getting banned when they do get caught.
slowerpoke
They should have done a 'Drag me to Hell' style demise

So i'm guessing that since they blanket banned over 3000 people that I wont get a response from anet.
I was just informed by guildies that they banned for using GWx2 or multi launch. Jeez. That is their brilliant even handed way of addressing all the malicious bots out there that are farming gold, manipulating pvp and perverting the game? Ban anyone that likes to run 2 accounts from one computer......So any time I loaded 2 accounts to test a build in UW since they wont allow henchmen in HM in that area I did something that would justify a perma ban. Very disappointed in what appears to be a slipshod method of going after botters.
So I gather people should not use GWx2. A sad day for a player (that has never botted)

They clearly said "We can't detect it for now, use it at your own risk".
That was the risk.
Maybe they added some kind of protocol to detect third party programs affecting GW.
The Steam in-game layer, of course, is not affected.

Fear The Apocalypse
[edit] ArenaNet
"As a general rule of thumb, we don't mind if you do things like this to make your own playing experience more fun. Some people really like to mod, and we recognize that this can often be a valuable learning tool. When you're doing it, though, keep in mind that we ask that you don't use our content to mod other games. Please do not attempt to extract anything from your GW.dat with the intent to use it in a mod for another game or project. Also keep in mind that we can't support any changes you make.
In other words, if you try to make some changes and your game crashes, don't contact support because there really isn't anything they will be able to do for you. Make sure you have your disks handy to reinstall.
In case anyone was concerned about this reply, keep in mind that alterations that people make to their own .dat files will not affect the play experience of others. All of that important data is stored server side, so any changes that would be able to be made are purely cosmetic. For instance, if someone re-textures their sword to look like a gigantic pickle, they will be the only one to see this change. You won't start seeing people wielding pickle swords running around in random arena any time soon.
Also keep in mind that we are always interested to see what stuff you guys come up with. If you do something exceptionally cool that you feel would really benefit the community as a whole, don't be afraid to let us know about it." -- Emily Diehl (talk)
"To all modders: It's important to note that the parameters concerning the use of third-party programs do still apply. We cannot condone the use of such programs, and we cannot support the accounts of those who may be negatively impacted in using such programs. That's called the If it eats your hard drive and blows up your refrigerator, don't call us policy.
Honestly, though, as previously stated, it is unlikely that we would actively pursue or action those who use such programs in a positive manner, that is, those whose only interest is creating benign mods of our games. Keep in mind that occasionally people get creative and might bring up the use of a harmless program to attempt to mask other harmful activities. We see that with other situations, such as where they say "But I was only using an alternative OS, why was I blocked?" and we discover they are using major bot programs.
If you feel that this creates a "mixed message," then I guess we should discuss that concern. I can understand where the strict "Don't do that" is clearer than "We can't say you can do that, but we won't take action if you do choose to do it." There are some cases where it's not black and white. One example that comes to mind is the use of emulators to play Guild Wars. We develop only for the PC, but others play on other systems and that's totally ok. However, if they develop difficulties, our Support Team is not available to help them resolve those issues. So we don't prohibit the alternative, we simply decline to support it.
What I want to say above all about this matter is that if you're going to mod, have fun, but do stick with the benign and positive uses of the programs and create mods that impact the game only in ways that are fun and harmless. If there's more information to share, I will do so as soon as it becomes available to me." -- Gaile
You should not have necessarily been banned for TEXMOD only.... as long as it was following their guidelines.

yeah but alot of people jump on the TexMod as an excuse as the only thing they apparently done wrong..."thats the program i used...honest". Ofcourse there may be some people innocent and got banned but i highly doubt there in such a great number. It's really hard for them to tell some botted behavior but they wouldn't have banned people if they wernt sure, they coulda been watching them for months without anyone knowing aswell as other methods.
Instead of taking it out on the forums/ vandalising the wiki etc then try contacting support instead of making matters for yourselves worse. I know its easy to just say contact support but just give it ago, they may be able to deal with it quicker - just bare with them i know i got my account banned ages ago by accident and they were kind enough to help me get it back.
edit: The modding thing is a hard topic but if your worried then dont do it. They approve of our creativity but we cannot take models from the game and use them in other projects and creations and neither are we allowed to alter the actual models and client itself to stuff your not supposed to do, modding textures don't give any adverse effects to the game in any real way. The other commonly used program would be a multiclient, this wouldn't be breaking any rules as it mainly just allows you to open up more than one client, which can be done before hand with changing the registry in your computer. If your not physically harming anything then don't be worried, if your worried then don't do it even more!
