  • Krytan Events

The Shining Blade, pleased with adventurers' performance against Willem the Demeaning, are now searching for other Mursaat in Kryta. Despite the difficulty in obtaining infused armor, many soldiers-for-hire are acquiring these pieces to better serve their clientele. Now those who fight for a free Kryta can field a group, in outposts across the land, that will be better protected from the Mursaat's most vile magic.

  • Bug Fixes

The AI now refrains from activating skills while under the effect of Loose Magic.
Fixed a bug that caused some players resurrecting in Scoundrel's Rise to be zoned to the Gates of Kryta outpost.

  • Notes

A new quest, "A Little Help From Above", was added to the War in Kryta.

Well, at least they won't die in 3 seconds now. Maybe they'll last 10. Hopefully, they got Falken too. Not that anyone's doing the escort anymore, but still.

When one such as me uses Death pact sig as a hero hard res, henchmen being infused is indeed a good thing.

Infused armor does little when the AI is suicidal.

I just wanted to say that it was all I could do not to impale myself with the asuran beacon during the new abysmally long mission.

This the last mission/quest I'm going to do for WiK.

The henchmen aren't level 20 & they still suck. Infusion didn't seem to really do much for them.

This was posted in another thread about the new WiK stuff. It deserves to be posted again.

The henchmen may still be stupid but they do suck up more damage, better them than me!

Have to agree with scarlett above, the mission was dragged out with all the pop up mantle once you got the key, pretty annoying after a while, felt like they were put in just to prolong the mission. Compared to RA it felt like forever. H/H took about an hour.

But what good would that bring, if your party has to waste time having to rez them everytime they die?

Yeah, the mission is stupidly long, and the magically re-spawning mantle on the way back from the boss key are infuriating. It's not enough that you have to slog to the ends of the earth - you have to fight all the way back too. The rewards should be about triple what they are. At least - just for the frustration factor.

Since they lived longer than before, my party did not res them as often. They also incurred less DP than before and did not need massive DP removal only to die again later. This enabled them to suck up more damage, in the new mission I was only hit with SA once.

They also were not constantly getting instantly vaporized once ressurected. So in the end the party did not have to waste more time than before bringing them back.

The re-spawning mantle on the way back from getting the boss key sucked any fun I was having right out of the quest. Clearing out the village to get to the boss was a decent challenge though.

QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO DID IT WITH OTHERS: Can each player in the party get the standard thingie, or is it a one-at-a-time thing?

each party member can get one, was fun when my group pulled like 4 groups together in shaemoor, and dropped our beacons. mwahahahaha

also I agree with the long part of this mission, i think anet realized no one really went to the other end for the keys in the RA mish, and purposely made this annoyingly long.

I liked the mission, very fun and long yes, but not to the point that it sucked. Also...am I the only one who could totally see the role of steffan in the cartoon above being played perfectly by John Travolta, lol. That would totally be the exact way he would say the dialogue up there, funny.

Each player can get one and you can replenish them as much as you want, btw, if you die, you're res'd right in the spot to grab the beacons

Welp, just finished the mission by H/Hing on my Mesmer--the most excruciating two hours I've spent in GW. I had no difficulties whatsoever with my Rit, so maybe it was just the luck of the spawn. Looks like Anet really is encouraging us to play together.

The infusion thing made little difference; Alesia still died in two hits. I propose in the WiK climax, it is revealed she purposefully sucked in order to support the Mantle. A public beheading would be a fitting end.

Must have been a lucky PUG for me - no drama, just a nicely paced kill-fest. As for the whole QQ about the tedium/difficulty/rewards balance, remember, nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to do the WiK stuff

And finally - please feel free to gently mock people who appear to insist on doing the new quest in HM

I got 7 k and an elite ele tome by pugging this mission on HM. I luv it. Tough knowing the nature of this forum, some people will find a reason to whine about it and diss Anet.

(reads rest of thread)

I knew it.

Face it kiddos, if you don't like this mission that only means you hate the core gameplay and just want free rewards.

I don't see what the big fuss is about. I ran 9 different professions through this quest already and I'm currently doing it with my monk, all with heroes. (dual accounts) This is actually fun for me. Lots of enemies to slay. Never a dull moment. Takes me approximately 30 minutes in normal mode to complete. Never stopping to rest and aggroing large mobs. Don't know how it could take 1-2 hours to complete this. No consumables either.

AoTL/Curse Hybrid Hero Necro
SoGM hero Rit
SoS/Restore Hybrid hero Rit
Panic hero Mes

PS: I found of all my professions my Assassin completed this the quickest.

Took me almost an hour with h&h. But I really like the new WiK quests. Because it's more fun to fight these enemies (Dual profs). In HM I would really need an second player, otherwise it's just to hard I think.

My completion times wouldn't automatically double if I decided to use heroes AND hench. I still don't see how it can take so long. It's not DoA. Only thing I'd replace is my Mesmer, and 2 Monk heroes with hench and 1 other. The brunt of my damage remains the same. SoGM, SoS, AoTL and myself. Heck with small mobs you can literally go afk and let the heroes do the work. Heroes are awesome at casting splinter weapon on minions since that update not too long ago. Toss in some death nova, putrid bile, mark of pain, and blood ritual to keep your momentum going and things just go boom. Not to mention the SoGM and SoS spirit walls. You don't even have to worry about priority targets (healers). Just "C" space your way through everything.

I don't see why you guys are complaining so much about the mission. I did it with h/h in HM with little difficulty. The only thing I can suggest is for anet to give alesia an offhand :\

Must have done something wrong then, dunno why but the part of the kill the 10 mobs part whiped my entire party. I didn't have so much trouble ever in the game, I had less trouble doing DoA.
All of a sudden I was facing a 20+ group of people that had more monks, more rezzers and there I was with my low level henches. Everyone I killed was rezzed in seconds.
I managed to finish it but I can reccomend anyone still doing this quest is to PUG and bring frozen soil.

I don't know about the others, but I was doing Wanted: Sevaan at the same time so doing both at once in HM just seemed convenient.

Good thing, i kinda overlured a bit at Shaemoor... My rezzers were dead and i was about to leave, good thing i saw your post.

Would be nice if we could have taken G.O.X for some REAL corporal punishment.

I wiped at the entrance to Shaemoor as well. I'm pretty sure I didn't pull carelessly. It seemed to me like another group just rushed in from very far away.

I never did the first part of the quest, I went straight to the temple and killed all the groups, tried the lever and it wouldn't budge - killed the boss on top of the stairs tried the lever again and the door opened, went to mursaat group and killed them and... mission completed!

Basically I couldn't figure out how to get to the required boss so assumed I had to go through the temple to get to him.

Btw. what are beacons

I assume you were doing it on normal since you mention the henchies being low level

So the problem is that your group isn't properly balanced, specifically you are doing too little damage thus killing the mobs too slowly and you end up getting swarmed.

You shouldn't need more than one healer aside from Alesia, I didn't even use a full healer I brought my necro/rit healer that really is for HM and basically the damage part doesn't really work in normal (Spoil Victor) but I didn't bother to change it (I guess it works on the Mursaat). Aside from that I had protective spirit on my MM and hex eater signet on my Mesmer that's all the defensive skills I had.

In fact they do, the groups are spawns.

Anyone try this mission without henchmen? Just a player and 3 heroes? It might sound handicap, but it made the mission easier for me.

Why would it be easier?

And since you said it made it easier you must have tried with henchies and failed. (hint don't use melee henchmen)

In fact they do, the groups are spawns.
Well there is nothing wrong with my damage output, every single one of them drops in one or two seconds. Me being N/a with the normal setup and my necro's with rit skills.
The problem was more that at the entry of sheamor(sp?) the group was so large that it was close to impossible to pull one group. I ended up parking my h/h between the houses further up the road and started pulling and running. It worked in the end I finished it on my Sin and my Necro. Warrior died a horrible death but I suck at warrior. Never liked that char anyway.
Next up is my ranger.
But seeing from your story I might aswell try your approach, the asuran beacon is only handy for casters anyway.

Well I agree you should be flagging hh back then aggro one group, even if a second group follows at least you won't get a third
