Srry people, I had some nice concepts in my head and had all the stuff I needed too.
Unfortunately real life issues (non serious but time consuming) prevented me from even starting.
I'll start working on it when I can find the time and keep it for next year I guess.
I wish all of you the best off luck and happy holidays!!!!

Next one, as promised

I like this pic a lot, I worked a lot on the manipulation, especially the snow on the tree. The tree is really there, it's in our front yard
Also, it's on purpose, that I didn't photoshop out the green leaves

Hope you like this one too ^_^

I'll upload the single pic on my dA account later today.

oooh very nice! that's very well photoshopped (also, belated happy bday )

-----

I gotta throw in something OT for a sec, cuz although there are probably other places I should go with this, but I don't know anyone outside of Nolani so bear with me for a minute.

I've been inactive for over a year now, and somehow Eryn wants to get back into the swing of things. My old guild has long since died of neglect. I'm therefore looking for a new home!

Experienced (but rusty) full-time Paragon looking for a friendly, european pve-oriented guild, where doing hard-mode stuffs is possible so I can polish up my EotN titles. Can't guarantee I'll be a super active member, or might even find that I'm well and truly over GuildWars and can't be bothered anymore. But what I do know is that I'll never go back unless there's people to meet and have fun with. So yeah, if anyone will have me...?

I'm back! Updated the first post with the new people joining in. Welcome!

@Minami: Wow, your photos are just stunning. I love how the background looks with the ritualist, it's just beautiful. Very nice, seamless photoshopping. Can't wait to see more.

@Death By An Arrow: Yay, more progress pictures from you. The polar bears are looking adorable, and the background is coming along nicely too. I'll be able to comment more, once you have more detail put in.

@MoragD: I hope you find a good guild. I was in the same situation a while ago too, but luckily there still seems to be good, somewhat active guilds in the game. I'm not that active anymore either, but eh, when I do play it's nice to have people around.
If you're interested, I could ask our guild leader if you're welcome to join. Our specific guild is a bit quieter, but we're a part of a very active alliance.

Ok, some more progress here. Had my last exam of this period yesterday so the holidays now started for me :) Had some time again to draw. added Ursula, a dervish (was planned to be a male, but I just found that males in norn just look like transexuals, so just made it a female :p), some grentches in the back, and gave the ele feel.

To do list:
More grentches >:D
add another human getting hit my a snowball
Fix those extremely ugly feet of the ele :p
Fix monks hands
Touch up the ground
Touch up the clouds
optional: fill spaces near the snowball with a tree with snow on it
suggestions ;)

Stopped posting in my progress galery since images need to be viewed at larger size then photobucket allows me. You'll just have to deal with it :p

Hi all! I had been working on an entry last year, but never quite finished it up due to work, so I figured I'd give it a try again this year. Here's how far I got last time:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c4.../elemental.jpg

Unfortunately, it got destroyed, so I will be starting from scratch, but I have a better notion than last time on how I'd like to present it. (He will be a snowman in the end.)

Similar. I basically grew borax crystals on pipe cleaners I had shaped into the form of an ice elemental.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone here!

@Dyeane: Wow, that looks really interesting. What are those crystals? I don't think I've ever seen a method like this before.

@Free Hairnet: Hm, I think english would be more viewer-friendly. Most people probably wouldn't even recognize the ascalonianese, even though it is more of an original idea.

@Tommy's: Awww! The jingle bear chasing the dervish in the background just cracks me up. XD It's adorable! I think adding a tree or two in the drawing somewhere would be a good idea, it would give it a bit more depth and give it more of a nature-y feeling (instead of just being an empty field of snow in the middle of what goes for North Pole in Tyria, or something like that).

Happy belated birthday Minami! And that costume is awesome!

I have been ridiculously busy lately (among other things - work, baking about 20 dozen cookies, and far too many hours spent hurriedly knitting Christmas presents). On top of that, I'm not sure about the idea I had anymore :\ So I might be scrapping it and starting over.

Today I filled my HoM with 15 weapons, so that part is done. Yet, I have 19 medals of honor left. Shouldn't be too much trouble to get me together another 1, making 2 oppressor weapons. So to get people some extra HoM points, I'd like to donate:

2 Oppressor Weapons of choice!

I also have a lot of booze left, but I will stick to them to hand out as prizes for the Trivia on the party Along with some other things.

To prevent double posting; an edit :3

damn those trees add a lot!

@Tommy's What's actually pretty strange is that they are making the Snowman Ball like on the edge of the hill, from which it goes downwards.

Hmm, better call in the Ghostbusters... for a second I thought I saw a ghost.

@Tommy's: I agree that the trees added a nice touch to it. Looks a lot more cheerful now.

@satomz: Looking really nice, can't wait to see more colour in it!

Worked on mine a little more, now that I got some free time:

Thanks Perynne and Death by an Arrow for comments. And now, today's progress:

There is supposed to be two more pictures, and the black background will be replaced by sky blue background similar to the ones in first couple of pictures.

I'm not particularly looking forward to drawing HotN Kieran though (in the last picture)... He looked better before he went to WiK.

Looks great Minami! Still think the background of the top middle should be lighter (or you should be darker). Also I think you missed a small bit in the middle right picture. Just a bit above your head there is a stripe that I think shouldn't be there

And Satomz, those shapes are really good. Are you going to detail them all? Thats gonna be a lot of work! Hope you make it in time.

Perynne: Yay finaly some progess from you again Loving the eyes on that kid, though something about him freaks me out a bit Its the nose of the mouth I don't know Or perhabs its because it looks like he's missing a neck dunno Love the way you shaded the cloths by the way, wouldnt change that!

Some more: Added in the mesmer and the poor fellow getting snow down his skirt Still need to do something about all those grentches their bodies, they are a bit too flat.

Oooh, thanks Tommy, I have no idea what that smudge thing is O_O
I exchange it in a minute Thanks!

As for the other pic's background, I'll see what I can do... That's the only picture where I don't have the background separate on a layer anymore

I think I am dropping out of the contest.

I've lost inspiration on my original idea, and I'm not having any good ideas for something I can do between now and Friday. Also my depression has decided to rear up and hit me much harder than it has in a long time, and I've just barely got the energy to be able to go about my every day things I have to do.

So yeah. Unless something pops up in a couple days, I won't be entering. Sorry guys.

I have decided to change my Second entry, same title, same progress diary, but different motive.

I was thinking about making something like this:

It's super messy and I'm gonna pretty up Dwayna a lot (right now she looks like an over excited mother T_T) and blah blah blah... But still. You ge the picture.

Any ideas on how I can make the cave resemble the ice cave you do the wintersday mission in? And any tips on putting more motion into dwayna; she's supposed to be sliding. I'm gonna make snowflakes scatter around her.

so the deadline is really soon and I'm... sort of getting there. The chest will be finished today, and my goal is (until my next break) is to finish the snowman or the door. Ill try my best to remember to upload images.

But I've also got a question/suggestion I was thinking of. Since all the detailed items (the chest, the bears, etc.) are done in little squares and are more detailed, would it help enhance them to use larger squares for the background and foreground to make them less detailed? Do you think that would detract or enhance the focus?

What if it was just one or the other? Say, an equally detailed foreground but then a less detailed background or vice versa.

I ask this because the foreground and background are essentially just smooth gradiants of blues and don't really require alot of detail, but I feel like if I did bigger squares It would look off because its different.

Now, by square size i mean like,
for the bears and the chest and most of the rock, each torn out piece is around or less than 1cm.
for some of the rocks each torn out piece is around 2-3cm at there longest points
For the background/foreground I was thinking of maybe like 5-6cm pieces.

Edit: I present to thee, the Chest and Snowman done. No, they aren't actually the same size :P

The chest took the longest amount of time/work to complete. Glad it's done. All I have left is the dungeon gate, the back wall, and the ground (the things I asked for suggestions for :P)
My goal is to get the door done tonight to. Tomorrow will be the background/foreground stuff. Gunna take a break, star wars episode 2 and Darksiders await me :3

I thought about how much time it is taking me to make each drawings, and I decided to downgrade the quality of drawing, to one with line art and more simplified shadowing. After all, my initial intention was having music as main feature.

Anyway, here's the progress for yesterday and today.

@Death By An Arrow: Wow, I really like how it's looking so far. It's amazing how much detail you can get out of small bits of paper.
Hm... I think perhaps larger pieces of paper would work for the background. Maybe if they're only 3 or 4 times larger than the usual pieces of paper, they wouldn't look too different? I don't know, but to me it just sounds like having larger paper pieces for the background would work. :3

@Minami: Eeee, absolutely stunning photos! And very good photomanipulation too. I really, really like your rit costume, it's so pretty. <3

@Tommy's: Whee, glad to see your piece finished too. I really like all of the action and the detail in it, there's something to see no matter where the eye rests. Perhaps the only thing I would comment anymore is that the sky could use something in it, like a bird shadow or two? All of the action is more along the horizontal line and the eye kind of wanders up easily, so something there to bounce the viewer back down would help.
It's great like this too though, especially if you don't have time to work on it anymore.

@Verene: Aww... too bad, I was looking forward to seeing your entry. I do understand being depressed though, and how that can make every day life difficult. I hope you'll feel better soon, and hope to see you at the workshop party at least.

@GeminiJuSa: Maybe some motion blur to go along with the scattering snowflakes? Also, you can get more motion by using a more blurred background, so that way you wouldn't need to worry about doing a lot of detail there.
It's an interesting angle for a character, I hope you can get it to work. It's looking good so far at least.

@satomz: I think the simplified colours will work well with this. It doesn't always have to be detailed to look good - sometimes simple is better. This way, if there's music involved, the drawings won't take too much attention from the main feature.
Looking great so far, I like Gwen's different poses.

Worked on my own entry some more. I think it's pretty much finished - will do some final touch-ups tomorrow perhaps, such as some colour tweaks and any extra shading that needs to be done. I'd love to get any last minute comments now, while I can still change stuff. Managed to catch a flu during the weekend, so I'm feeling a bit bleh and barely have energy to draw, but I will get it done!
