I suspect the promised 'Imperial Weapons' will be added at the end. There are another two 'acts' remember.
Also ST+Shelter all but trivialised this content; after taking those I only wiped as a result of some absurd aggro in the final quest. Since these enemies just love balling up, lots of AoE makes really quick work of them.

Can anyone confirm if there's a difference between the Hard Mode version of the quests and the normal quests in Hard Mode?
I thought there was (but it was only an intuition based off me blowing up quickly with a setup that previously steamrolled the mobs), but a guildie hasn't noticed. |

I suppose an easy way to check would be for me to do the Minister Cho's HM quest since any differences should be fairly distinctive there, but I need to sleep.

Still, nothing my build can't seem to handle yet; although the Sickened animals may be annoying.*
*Edit: In writing this post a sickened mob patroled into me and killed my heroes. Managed to kill them all though.

atm stuck on When kappa attacks and the resue on beginners island(both NM) some one got a good hero build to do it with 3 heros ?
Evil_Necro
done it.. felt quite satisfying.. mainly just the fun out of trying to see and guess the new skillbars.. And it was fun getting spiked by SS afflicted rit.. (not really..)
Overall, if u play this with someone else (read: friend), it will be more fun.. if you play this alone though.. well, not so much..

After the few afflicted quests and doing the courier, light my fire and kappa it's a lot better(besides the ever annoying "..... must survive"). Still like most on cantha a melee char is not the best choice, even more so with the new builds.
Did I mention I hate afflicted?
Oh and edit, the new costume is great stuff. I'd rather have them deliver imperial armour though

And A.Net; putting a mob right on top of a killable NPC is not good practice; it's not nice for a player to waste that much time, killing quite large mobs, many filled with tanky enemies, just to get screwed over like that. At least make them run away.

Approach the island from the SW instead of the NE so you can be right at the peasant instead of having to go through the Afflicted to reach her.

People seem to be approaching that 3rd NPC from the wrong direction (or at least people I've talked to).

Also, approaching from the Afflicted's side would be better since you can aggro them before reaching her and making her vulnerable to attack.
I would try again but I don't feel inclined to waste that amount of time against large warrior groups with Endure Pain.

Talhkora was running this build:
Healing Burst, Dwayna's Kiss, Dismiss Condition, Leech Signet, Shield of Absorption, Protective Spirit, Cure Hex, Power Drain. I should have changed out Healing Burst for Word of Healing for the four man area but I was too lazy.
My sin was running flashing blades and critical agility with a short recharge attack chain. If you are careful with pulls (not hour long ones, just common sense things like don't fight uphill, try to position your monk behind a wall, pull them to your party, don't run to them and make sure the afflicted ritualists cast spirits before pulling them to your party) most of the mobs are easy to take on with a decent hero monk (the energy restoring interrupts I'm pretty sure are a big difference with her build and most of the monks I see PUGs bring, it also gives her lasting power).

Silent surf and especially morostav trail was fun. I liked the huge afflicted bosses there, and for me to say I like something related to afflicted. Never thought I would say that.

I must have fluked this one. I didn't bring res on Tahlkora or my assassin and Xandra and Master of Whispers both died two mobs prior to the third girl. I just used careful pulling on walls to kill all the afflicted (and made sure the ritualist summoned it's spirits before I finished pulling it. I finished the last two mobs with just the NPC, myself and Tahlkora.

Was this for the HM quest? The enemy groups didn't seem to care about the survivor for the normal quest (even in HM), but she died pretty quickly in the HM quest; part of the problem was she turned to an ally before I was ready; I tried flagging my heroes forward ahead of me but they caused her to become vulnerable.

I had no problems completely aggroing the entire mob well before the NPC turned vulnerable, including in HM.
My approach was (in order of west to east): 1st from the SW, 2nd from the west, 3rd from the S.

I like that Cantha's getting a little more attention and don't want to complain about a free update, but there were a couple things that bugged me about it.
I didn't like how Canthan characters were treated like foreigners and didn't say anything about it. When the gangs did it, I could look past it as just gang speak ("This land belongs to our gang, so it isn't yours"), even though it didn't always sound like they meant it that way. But then Xan Hei did it, too. And our characters said absolutely nothing about it. Considering WoC is supposed to cover when Cantha becomes isolated, it makes makes me wonder if the reason will be blamed on our characters, and the story's just assuming everyone's a foreigner for the sake of convenience. I really hope that's not the case, though.
Also, with handing over that manifesto . . . At the very least, Tyrian characters, if not all of them, should have been skeptical about blindly handing something over to someone without thinking it through or getting more information, after making the same mistake with both the Chosen and the Scepter. But, again, they make the mistake of handing over the manifesto without first reading it.
I do like the weapons and having our own fan boy, though. Wish we could drag him around even when we don't have a quest with him.

Still not completed the WoC (going for rheas now), but so far only found shing jea troublesome.
The party limitations gets on my nerves since i'm too lazy to rune my heroes, but even so they are doable (at least in NM).
Minister's Cho was the 1st set back, but with SoS, Panic, WoH monk and any kind of summon stone (found Oni very useful) makes it a lot easier. Approaching the npcs is a key there, and the last one shouldn't be a problem if you agro the mob from SW.
It was also rather amusing watch the animals packing quite a punch, and some of their groups actually gave me more trouble than the afflicted.
The defending quest is quite easy if you pull the guy out of the water. Bring something like BiP, flag everyone on the path of the 1st wave, and just pull the npc by saccing your life. By the time the other groups appear the npc should be safe, and your heroes should survive without any trouble.
The most fun till was was the tunnels quest. Just let them mob all up, put shelter and EoE in a safe zone zone, then with SS, panic and few spikers watch the entire mob go boom.
And for the main area i found out that aggroing large groups of Am Fah and afflicted at the same time gets the job done quite fast. Even if you overextend a bit they should start fighting each other making it a lot safer for the team.

No, you can go through the quests in normal mode and stop after completing the chain, you don't have to do HM if you're just interested in the story/progression. If you want the extra rewards (double) and to clear out the areas of afflicted in hard mode, then you need to do the hard mode versions after you do the normal. Doing the normal mode quest in hard mode doesn't count as doing it in hard mode. It's kind of weird.

I really didn't like the limited party content, but other than that I am really enjoying the update. I especially enjoyed the Xan Hei chain. Overall I think ANet has done a good job with WoC part 1, just...no more limited party content please! ;p

Sounds like you need shelter. One of the most important things for any high end PVE these days is a Soul Twisting Ritualist using shelter and armor of unfeeling. That reduces the damage incoming to your entire group down to no more than 10% of your max health. Armor of unfeeling makes it last longer, and soul twisting allows it to be recast faster. Honestly a player does it better than a hero, since they can heal it with summon spirits, but man, that job is boring being an ST Prot Rit, but it's as good as an Imbagon, and a hero can still do it (unlike Imbagon which heros can't do)

In HM, there is 3 states each area affected by WoC can be in.
1) If you haven't had a quest for the area, the area will remain the same as before WoC.
2) If you currently have a quest for that area, the WoC afflicted will be there.
3) If you finish the WoC quest for the area, the afflicted will be gone, replaced by Am Fah or other creatures.

This won''t interrupt with Zbounties, will it?

Although a lot of the same quests, I'm really enjoying this update.
I would have liked a model like WiK a bit more: special drops, greens, an outpost with special npc's like the keep and just more stuff.
That said, this is only the first part probably paving the way for the really epic second and third part of it (jade sea, echovald?).
A real verdict can only be given after those imo.

As there aren't any zbounties for afflicted bosses, I suspect it won't be an issue. If the spawns change after doing the HM versions of the quests, maybe they will add something like the WiK Wanted alteration, where having the quest in your log temporarily resets the spawns to how they were before completing the quest chain.

To be fair, the first two quests on Shing Jea are more interesting and the Marketplace quest is a change of pace.

I came back to GW to see if theres anything interesting but no. Still no HoM weapons and the costumes are blah (was hoping for something to do with the kurzicks and luxons) I got to minister cho's estate and then cba to continue because getting repeatedly rolled by OP mobs is not my idea of fun. Not gonna bother anymore until I know if there are any rewards for doing these boring quests.

The line gets better once you're done killing afflicted, once the Ministry of Purity decides they need to clean up human beings rather than just afflicted, that's when they start not seeming so great anymore.
As for that chest.. the chest itself has always been there but it has been blocked off.... how did you open the gate? It's not open in my district
