Devs and Guild Wars 1

...and remember by the time gw was 7 months old (november 2005) we already had sorrow's furnace--by far the best expansion they have made to date, what does gw2 have......gee, still working on things they PROMISED when it was released!
yeah, we have a fat chance of them doing more than adding a few items for holidays and such....wouldnt count on any profession updates. (even though they have mentioned that adding quests to gw would only take a few minutes to create--so where are these new quests??????????)

It's just a guess based on a mix of industry averages tailored to what we know from actual GW development. By "believable", I mean that it would be very hard to believe that a significant amount of new content and features could be produced for less and still meet quality requirements, so that figure is a minimum. There is of course no hard ceiling, as it depends on how much more they would want to do.
Age
It wouldn't cost 1 mill as a Pagnati Zonda costs 1 million a piece.I would bring the figues under 10K-.Third party contractors can do it for far cheaper.

The article linked in lemming's post was written for you.

more likely most of those who had worked on the original have left the company, so all we are left with is people who are clueless...(and the janitor ).

At this point, I would have to wonder how successful such a game could be with competition from DayZ.

Mike O'Brien is still at Anet, he was the one who made comments about GW1 being stagnant and limiting.
The other two went their separate ways - Jeff Strain is the one who started a new company to make a zombie sandbox, and Patrick Wyatt went to work on TERA.

As opposed to estimates based on passenger vehicles.

I would think yes as it is a high end exotic car which cost 1 mill+.I would say any car is worth more than a video game after 6 month the game is worth nothing.

James Phinney left Anet to work with Jeff Strain. Seems like all the good devs are working on the zombie mmo.

zombies....sounds better than gw2!!! (and they are very popular right now too--)
ectogasm
At this stage it's still vaporware. The game they're working on right now is an offline zombie shooter being published by Microsoft and will most likely be Xbox-oriented. It will however lay the groundwork for the client software that will be used for the MMO.

I was just checking out the update notes---ah, the 'official forum' notes (since the update notes on the guildwars site havent been updated since.....september!), and aside from the notes about the upcoming april fools day (which I will assssume is going to be the same [email protected] from last year, sigh) I also ran across people having restore issues to which gaile replied:
so they will no longer going doing roll backs on guildwars accounts....gee would have been nice if they had told that to us (since it was a rather new addtion).

The ART (Account Restoration Tool) is not functional in Guild Wars, and we do not have the ability to “roll-back” an account any longer. |

It would be nice if they reenabled it.

well, my assumption was correct it seems.....and I think the decline message from the 2nd quest says it best:
"No thanks, I liked the original better."
"No thanks, I liked the original better."

So...not even the fake update notes this year?:/
I could care less about an idiotic quest, what I liked was the funny fake...

no, they would not do a fake update since they barely tell us what the 'real' ones are (heck, have you checked out the guildwars.com update notes??? the last ones were noted in SEPTEMBER of last year--THAT should tell you how much they really care), the only place they do update notes now is on the 'official' forum, and I dont think stephaneeeee has time for such any more (heck gaile and regina never even visit here anymore, let alone post )
I guess we know where we stand.

Shyft the Pyro
My guess is there was no fake update for April Fools because all the holidays are being automated. What I mean is the current dev team is making the "final" versions of each holiday event so that there's no more need to alter the code. Since new holiday items won't be introduced, the various "turn this in for previous years' rewards" quests will work regardless of what year it is.
Leot
Yep, they've made everything automated which implies that they don't intend to do any updates from now on.

So, Massively just published this.
Flameseeker Chronicles: Returning to a simpler time in Guild Wars
I still have to read it, but wanted to point it out since at least someone is still talking about our beloved game, out there in the massive mmo industry network.

well that's something even if its possible a half truth. Remember they said they couldnt revert accounts? (they have, though its no longer working), they couldnt do cosmetic changes like hair and face? .....see a pattern here?
sooooo I would say that as long as people are playing (and bugging them about the game) we stand a pretty good chance of it still being online.

Although when I look at the state of the game today I've actually come to feel that heroes were ultimately bad for the game. Not because of letting people play alone, that was their redeeming quality.
I feel they were bad because players could choose their builds, because we came to a point in the meta where people had simply refined hero teams enough that players became superfluous, PvX's scale became distorted to treat only the most utterly powerful builds as good and disregard everything else, etc, because if a build wasn't the most utterly powerful, it didn't matter - three optimized heroes and a few decent henchmen could handle everything anyways, once the necro-exploiting builds like Sabway and Discordway showed up.
It was too easy to coordinate a team. Too easy to test out team builds and run them "just so". In retrospect, heroes should never have been added. Henchman AI should have been improved, perhaps henchman builds should have been improved (not copied right from the meta, but made with a bit of thought put into them), and the ability to micro their skills by hand implemented as it was with heroes, so people could still play alone, but actually letting players do the heroes' builds themselves was a problem. Really, the only problem, I think, and the main reason GW became such a cakewalk.
Anyways, my rambling aside, yes, Anet goes back on things all the time, hence I still keep up hope that some time they'll cave and unban me :P Despite that, I think they'll keep to the "we'll leave GW running" claim, because with such a low number of players it's unlikely GW's really costing them much to keep running. For all we know the game is running on the same physical servers as GW2.

I read the article, (didnt watch the vid--dont do that on this computer).....its interesting the points they bring up of the inconsistencies between the 2 games--the lack of plat, the extinction of the gargoyles (and probably other species)...etc.
Hope it brings more people back to the bett---original game!

ANet said themselves (not GMs, not support, but devs) that they plan to keep GW servers up as long as people still play the game. So if we have a healthy, even if small community we should be fine... just don't ever expect new stuff.
The quote is floating around out there somewhere.
We all know how ANet loves to go back on their word, though. *shudder*

They could add heros to Prophecies and Factions camps.

The article is very nice. On the gargoyles: I have a feeling that they will release the matter of that someday in the feature. Maybe about 10 years from now considering the actual pace of the...uhm...so called "story".
Ugh, no.

It also helps with PvP by unlocking them which you can use in the Zaishen arena.
