Goodbye Gw1 Guru

Moved to a new (faster) server yesterday. Php 7 and Ubuntu 16.04. Whatever those are. There will be a few transitional issues.

As someone who often reads the old threads, this makes me very happy. Thank you Curse.

Will be sadly missed. Made many a great friend here & some great deals. Hope to see many of you over in GW2Guru to continue our community spirit. Hate that old things we love so much die off.

Guild Wars Guru was definitely the place where I first started to flourish into the kind of gamer I am today and was also where I developed much of my writing style, having spent so much time here discussing the game and new ideas for it. I've actually had the, eh... privilege of seeing my old writing style from when I was a younger teenager on an archived forum for another game, and I can say with confidence that GWGuru allowed me to develop far beyond that. The forum put me in touch with many more people who enjoyed the game than I could find in the small town I grew up in, and it was great to have been able to share many a passionate word with so much of the community in previous years. Even though I have long since stopped playing the game and regularly visiting this place, its closing and archival will be a sad moment in my history.
I was preparing to write a long piece on the subject of asking this community to move to GW2Guru and other related subjects, but on further review, I decided that it wouldn't do very much good and that it didn't make sense anyways to weigh in on an issue of a community of which I no longer participate, so I won't bother. It would have very much been in the likeness of Guru to write another long-form complaint, but it's not what this place needs right now from someone like me.

It's been a long time since I've posted much here (as it's been a long time since I've seriously played GW1), but I'm still going to miss this site. I have so many good memories of great conversations about all sorts of GW1 stuff from back in the day.
Thank you for this and thank you to everyone who's helped run this site. It's meant a lot to me.

So happy to hear that GWG is going to be available in archive mode. So much content has accumulated over the years to simply discard. The community can survive in another forum, but it was gonna be a hurdle to carry over the mountain of content posted here over the years.

If we're going into archive mode, gotta post this one last time for future forum archeologists to discover. Lest the world forget.
Kvinna
More than likely you won't be able to login in, but I am not 100% certain. If you can't login, you can't see your PM's.
Marty Silverblade
You can download all of your PMs at once in xml/csv/text format if you want to guarantee they won't be lost.

Thankyou all for maintaining and Sustaining this site or so long.
I have played GW1 for 4 years, I met my current GL here, and I have been a member of just that one Guild ever since. I have some very good friends there. While I still consider myself a casual gamer; I've logged a rather embarrassing number of hours in this game and GW Guru has been a tremendous help in terms of builds, play, and advise how to ....
Thankyou again for all the work that goes into Sustaining this forum. BB.

Go to your private messages. Scroll down nearly all the way. Download options are between a box labelled "Display Options" and a dropdown box on the right labelled "Forum Jump".

There's this "archive" already http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/archive/index.php
Generally when I see a forum archived it's either similar to above or all normal users are locked out and unable to create anything new.
But yeah I'm going to miss the drama, passion, debates, math comparisons, and what not.

Yeah thanks for this site and glad it is being achived.
Really like the new site Guild Wars Legacy that Marty told us about. It is up and running and really friendly. With him and Cosy (modding again) and others already there it was like old home week. Hope to see more of you over there soon too.

You will be dearly missed. Even if I didn't post much, this site is such an important part of the Guild Wars legacy for everyone.

Hey all, just received an update that the site will officially go into archive mode on July 1st.
That'll give us the rest of this month to transition over to GW2G. Also, even though this site is staying archived, if you want to move over threads for convenience sake, feel free to do so.

I just want to say it has been great being part of this community. There were times when we disagreed with each other and agreed.I am glad I got to know all of you and the fun we had on these boards.
It is sad to see the site come down but like the site i admin has come down as well due to lack of interest.I don't know what i want to save but please transfer all the guides and hopefully the image forums.I already have GW2Guru acct.I hope most of the staff here will move over as well as players.GW will always be the better game of the two.I hope to see you over there and I never did get a special title since being here 11 years now.Good Bye Guild Wars Guru it was slice.

I suppose I should say my own goodbye to this site.
Guild Wars Guru was the first GW fansite I spent time on, nearly ten years ago. It got me to enjoy the game far more than the in-game community did, and the site's community at the time probably did more to get me to love the lore and story of the game than the lore itself did. Even though I haven't been active on this site since Guild Wars 2 (and perhaps Guild Wars 2 Guru) went live, this site will remain one of my favorite sites to have once visited - and moderated.
I'm happy that this site is going into archive mode instead of disappearing all together. This site will probably always remain an important part of Guild War's legacy.
See you - or not - on Guru2.

It is no GW 1 Guru tho it is GW Guru.

Looks like I made it back in time to say good bye.
"All good things must come to an end." Kind of sad this site must be one of those things. Perhaps someday we may meet again on another game and site.

That moment you realise www.guildwarslegacy.com has more activity then the ''official'' GW2G subpage...
Aside from the goodbye's, you guys should consider giving legacy atleast a shot being a true dedicated GW1 forum but yeah.
It was a blast tho guru, gonna miss y'all heaps.

I realize GwLegacy puts a lot of effort to offer a new forum for the GW1 community, but again I think that most people won't find the new forum after GwGuru closes, that having the Gw1 subforum on GW2Guru active will bring much more people to GW1, and GwGuru closing isn't to blame, they warned at least a month before it closes, offers us archives to save the knowledge, and a nice, professional working forum for the GW1 community. It'd be too bad to miss the opportunity to have more GW2 players come back to the game thanks to an active GW1 subforum, and let our community die on a lost forum nobody will find. I also find more reassuring to have Curse with all our data (email, passwords, IGN). Many hacks occured because of data leak or a lack of security on some random forum (GWShop for example).
Anyway, goodbye GwGuru. Thank you for all these years
I hope it's not the end of the GW1 community. More and more players are coming back to the game or trying it (thank you GW2 for HoM! Haha)

I just logged into the game after a few years. This is such a shame to read, Guru will be dearly missed.

Yeah it is the site to be at for sure. Nothing against this site as long as I can access the archives area. But don't want to go into the GW2 area at all. I'd rather go to a site for us true believers, heh.

Hello everyone,
i've been playing GW1 on and off for over a decade now, my oldest character is 133months old and i even managed to recently finish my GWAMM on this character . GW1 is the only game that has mesmerized me for so long and a huge reason for that is the great community, especially here on Guru. Even in times of my life where i had no time to play GW, i occasionally visited this site just to browse the trade section or the screenshot section. It always put a smile on my face.
Thanks for everything! <3 <3 <3

I haven't really posted here in a while, and I haven't logged into GW in longer.
However, this forum was great. Wont be moving to GWG2. Based off activity.
Good luck. So long.

I'll miss this site. Been playing on and off all this time but found myself going back here to get updated. Thanks to the moderators who maintained this site to help casual players like me.
