Goodbye Gw1 Guru
cosyfiep
more updates, newer, since you yourself said that this current version of vbulletin has not been updated since before curse bought guru, I will assssume that curse has kept guru2 updated. Its like folks still working on windowsXP, still works just fine but since XP there has been vista, 7, 8, 10 ...so XP keeps getting farther away from the current windows, even though it works and can no longer be updated.
good enough for you kattar?

So there's that.

Created a legacy account, probably won't move to gw2guru because:
1. I'm guessing it will be the same mods as GW1 guru. nope.avi
2. Out of principle, GW2 is a bunch of bollocks so I stay away from it

Renewing the IPB license for Guild Wars 2 Guru so they can get the latest version is $25 and the conversion tool is free if they do it themselves. They would mostly be dealing with merging and remaking the visual design. Just saying...

Thanks for keeping this forum going for as long as you all did. I've been alternately active and inactive in GW but I loved that this place was always here. Nowhere else -- except maybe for our guild's facebook page -- could I come and be reminded that it's okay to still love this game. And that I can still learn something about it.

man how sad...the end of an era..
this game was a huge part of my life there for a while. i remember being 16-17 and putting countless hours into this game lol, it was worth it tho. i made a lot of friends, some i still talk to now, 10 years later.
this game was so amazing back when it active and fresh, bah i miss those days.
i recently decided to try it out again after all these years, but I forgot all my original acc. info and have long since threw the cd's/boxes away between all the moving ive done over the years. starting fresh is flooding my brain with nostalgia. i bought the trilogy and will most likely buy EoTN when I finish the other 3 campaigns simply for nostalgia reasons.
have no interest in trying out gw2. i will play thru the campaigns one more time, maybe try to finish the HoM - something I didn't do and regret. after that's over, i will quietly rest my account for another decade or so and perhaps revisit them again in my late 30s.
i spent a lot of time on this site and it's sad to see it go. thanks for all you did gwguru

If anyone thinks GWG should be entirely placed in a sub-forum of another game which the only thing they resemble is their product name other then their actual content, its complete bullshittery.
Why not place it in Aion Forums instead, they got wings n shit like in GW2, smh.
GWG deserves to be, with its own original content an original website other then being pushed away in a subforum of a diffrent game.
Its like they have not a glimpse of dignity for this website or its community.
Not even to speak about the timing they announced it, three weeks pre shut down, without a thought of their side to give tools or an initiative too preserve our history, data, and photo's.
Shame shame shame.
Long live www.guildwarslegacy.com

I can't understand why it isn't going to be simply archived It would be the savior of all the knowledge and information from over a decade and would hardly be a tap on server resources.
Forgive me but what exactly is the reasons for the closure? I may have missed it but can't find one

It was coming eventually, I'm just not ready yet. Thank you for all the Guild Wars 1 information over the years! I've been directed to this site many times when I was in need of information.
Tyran Hellcaster
I thought I'd ask this to one of the mods that might know...
Will the domain name guildwarsguru.com redirect you to the forum section on GWguru2?

Sorry to hear it has come to this. I haven't been the most active poster on GWG but I'll be sad to see it get lost in cyberspace.
Tho I still can't seem to accept that instead of giving us a better GW experience A.net decided to start from scratch for GW2 and change everything....

Yes, usually when Curse does this they make the domain redirect to something else, in this case it will be to GW2G.----was asked of Kvinna a while back and this is what she responded.
cant answer the other question either...only Curse knows.

Haven't posted in years but seeing the news today made me sad GWG will be missed

BB gwguru, will be missed.

Was fun shitposting here back in the day. Take care, friends.

So instead of everyone saying goodbye, if we all move house to the other place, nobody has to say goodbye.
Doesn't have to be goodbye y'know.

Not to worry, cosy & I will still be smacking you down in the new Trade forums.
While it is sad to leave this website, hopefully most of the active traders will participate in the new forums at gw2g. I would miss your constant complaining and attempts to circumvent the rules.
The Trade "guidelines" will remain the same, so the move does not mean anarchy.
For those whose anger means they won't be joining us on gw2g, a sad goodbye. You have made my life more interesting for years.

Apparently db corruption - not official and heard from person in contact with curse. There are two ways of fixing it - migrating the data or restoring the version before the bad thing happened. It seems they going option 1 since option 2 will mean a lot of data loss if the backups were made lets say once a month or... not at all....
Anyways it seems I cannot get activation email on legacy so I will be stuck on gw2guru for a while.

They did look into transitioning to IPB in the past, but it just wasn't feasible. The reason I was given was that the traffic for both sites is low and they decided to merge them together. GW2DB is also going away (they never kept it maintained anyway).
As for an archive of the site, it is something that I am really pushing for. Unfortunately it's not something I can control, but it is something I can raise hell about.
Either way, we're all waiting for you guys over at GW2G!

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! /Farnsworth
(I bet you read that in his voice, didn'tcha?)
GWG will remain in ARCHIVE MODE once the transition to GW2G is complete! That means that we won't lose any of the glorious history that has accumulated here.
Hurray!

That is fantastic news. Well done Curse. Thanks for the continued support.

That is the best possible news. Saving the history and the knowledge is the most important thing. Awesome news. Thanks for hearing us!

The activation mails are being generated and sent according to Kevin, the administrator. I presume you checked your junk folder? We're working on this, but for the time being he's activating everyone manually. But the dude has to sleep occasionally

Glad this site will be archived. That was really important.
