I'm a female gamer, but I don't play a lot of games. I find a game I like and stick with it. I do like RP type games though.
You know sometimes I wonder how many players I meet are female. I never ask whether or not they are female or male. It is nice to know that there are females out there who enjoy gaming.
I got into gaming because of my husband, he has played a lot of games and all kinds of games. When he started playing games like D2 and NWN I found myself sitting and watching him play and then I started helping him with areas. As silly as that sounds I would fill in some blanks he had with places. So he had an extra disk laying around and loaded it to my computer and I played it. I honestly didn't think I would like it, but I found myself addicted. Yes I got addicted to playing the game.

Im a woman gamer. I have 2 kids to look after and im a wife to my lovely husband.
His job is much harder than looking after the kids all day. I just put my feet up and play games.
OK.. so im not a woman
I noticed some of you talking about BASIC, Beginners All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code!!!! I studied that too, i remember Friday afternoons in my Computer Studies class writing qwerky little programs to impress my school mates!
I also noticed that all of you have great English skills, not something that i see much on GW forums. Is this because many of you are from the UK?
It would be nice to meet up with people, in game, from the UK.
I havent partied much in GW simply because i like to talk (type) a bit when playing and all i seem to get is one word answers or just total ignorance, much like partying with Henchmen! Guess i could do the TS thing....

I've been gaming for years. The first online game I ever played was Kingdoms of Yserbia way back in ohhh... 1992 maybe? I'm dating myself there.. but ah well. Before that I played some other "online games" so to speak on the old BBS's. To mention some: LORD, Barren Realms Elite, Solar Realms, and a few others.
As for MMORPG's, I've played quite a few and even was pretty wll known in them. Here area few I've played. Ultima Online, Earth & Beyond, Star Wars Galaxies, Tantra, EvE, Shattered Galaxy, and of course, Guild Wars. The thing that trips a lot of my friend out, is I'll log out of a game such as one mentioned above and load up something like "The Sim's Online". To be honest, I think TSO is a big factor in bringing a lot of women into the MMORPG scene lately.
I also have played a few FPS's: Quake, Quake 2, Jedi Outcast, HALO, and Half-Life. I have a few real life friends that play with me as well. You can't really put gender to stuff like this fella's. I'm sure there are a lot of women that would be appaled at the very thought, but you have to admit, there are guys out there that wouldn't know up from down in some online games too. I think it comes down to factors in life, your social relationships, etc.
Takes one to know one honey... Watch the noob talk.

Haha... female gamers..
One of my Best friends "a female gamer" completely dominates in Counterstrike.
She is quick to rub the fact that you got beat by a girl in your face... I love it.

I think its a little bit like Physics, or Engineering... women who are interested in it tend to be rare, so the ones that are doing it tend to be very good. Whereas it's a common "default choice" for guys, so there are plenty who really aren't that into it. Moreso for FPS's than MMORPGs, I know a lot of very casual women MMORPG players, many who are gf's of male players who play together with them etc.

I don't have a problem lusting after males. I would rather all characters have more clothing.

I wish we could make our characters MORE realistic. I would add to my character a pot belly and a scar from a previous surgery I have had. My character has a bald head. That part is correct.

It'll be funny the day there's 80% of women playing comp games - but you wouldn't know because they play male chars to escape the horney teenage boys! On the note of age, the majority of gamers are 25+ - and it's those same horney teenagers, who's horomones compell them to act tough, that laugh at a 38 year old player. The magic of life... o.O

Ladies you should definately go out with me cause I'm a tough bastard.
I prove it through my m4d PvP skills, obsessive shouting and vulgar language and insults towards other people. Your IG character and mine should hook up sometime. Maybe on Augury Rock? I know this great place in the jungles if that's more your style.

Be at male or female it seems that people consider you a "hardcore gamer" if you spend 90% of your life playing GW and don't mind grinding through the same level a bazillion times.
When I define a hardcore gamer to be that person that has one of every console system, and a PC to cover all game genre's (even if they can only allocate 4 hours a week to gaming). Also having legacy systems or emulators to play Zelda (original), gauntlet, and teenage mutant ninja turtles (with 4 player support!). That's a hardcore gamer; girl or guy.

You, I wouldn't be all that surprised if that statistic were close to being correct. My sister is an avid gamer, and a bunch of her friends play GW, too.

hmm...I am new to this but I would like to reply to it. I have been playing games since I was 3 or 4 I think, on an old atari that my DAD actually introduced me to. From there, my brother and I have been gaming on everything except for segas, well, we have the gamegear, but not the sega genesis. I have been playing online for a long time as well.
I know what you mean! I always click off my "all" chat so I don't have to see or deal with what they are saying. If they are ignored they will leave you alone.

I thought it was cute the other night when I was at Lion's Arch showing my real life boyfriend the view from the lighthouse, and male necro came up (I'm necro too) to ask if I was being bothered.
Chivalry lives on. It's good to know that some guys out there are willing to whip out the valour once in a while and prove that they aren't all bad. Whoever that was, thankyou. Keep up the good work.

How nice Just shows how some guys do care.
I actually play with my boyfriend. We have our computers sitting next to each other. Sometimes I can end up yelling at him about a stupid decision that gets us killed but it is still a lot of fun to share this with him.
(He really really really hates MMORPG's and other game RPG's but ended up loving this one and is now ADDICTED)

(Edit) As a side note I'm 35 and a wife and mother of 4 girls, ranging in age from 3-16. The 16 year old hates gaming. 15 and 13 year olds like Sims and Guild Wars. The 3 year old insists on sitting in my lap to watch mommy kill the bad guys. Mwahaha!

It is so nice to actually share it with someone that you love and can play together with it. My whole family is actually now playing it as well. My bro, my sis, my mom, and of course my dad.
We all help each other out. It is even better when you can alread have that trust built up if you play with people you know and you actually help them out. If you find something their char can use you give it to them and they do the same for you.
It's especially funny if my b/f finds something awesome and starts shaking my shoulder and getting all excited. I am sure the neighbors can hear him yelling.
Same here. Same at my parent's house...there has to be one for everyone...or else...

Two PC's??? Phhtt...
We have 5 between the two of us. My IT pro husband makes a point of having as many around as he can get away with. We used to have six or seven; I can't keep up.
Luckily, one of them is all mine. And we do play side by side. I'm not big on consoles and I used to watch him play his PS2 all the time. Now, we have something to do together.

Violessence,
That is great that you play computer games. I do not know any women in my age group that would even consider playing computer games. Their loss. You really should try to build a small but reliable Friend's List in the game to do missions/quests with. It is allot more fun with people. I understand the hassle it is to find a decent group. However over time out of the "bad Groups" you find decent players like yourself that just want to have fun and do the job right. My friend's list is pretty short.
I have mainly two groups on there. One is noobs that need help and the other is my core group (very small) that we know that we can depend on each other.
EDIT: Stoopid Typ0s

Yeah, we've got two of thosein the closet... I think. We did a clean out a while back. We have the two for ourselves, a server, an internet machine (P 75 mini comp) downstairs and the laptop that is never used. There's also the LAN station setup in the corner for when our friend brings his box. That one only has the peripherals hooked up.
I don't mind it all because it is his profession and he actually has a use for most of this stuff. The only thing that worries me is when he talks about his 'dream system/network'. Trust me, it is scary, but impressive.

It's not like I yell at him LOUD...just like a Goddammit...why did you do that? we end up laughing in the end. He just does not like mmorpgs. He only likes first person shooters like TFC, Half-life and so on. I don't want to give you the impression that I yell at him all the time. Usually we are laughing or yelling at the henchmen.
I believe my apt is a bit small to have 7 comps laying around the place. We have too many other gadgets that need to take up that space.
I am 19, used to play hockey, and am going to school to become a nurse. So, money tends to be tight sometimes. It is actually kinda scaring me because I am afraid it will take away from GW time The program almost makes it impossible to even work at all.

I'm a girl, and I've played a ton of games-- some console gaming, but in the last six years, almost entirely MMOs. And like others on this thread, I have at some points played with my mother and/or my sister. I've noticed the guildwars population seems to actually be significantly less (real life) female than a lot of others I've played. A lot of men playing women, though. More than I've seen before.
I'm hesitant to believe that 47% statistic. Someone mentioned it before, but 90% of that has to be women playing the Sims. I know I got some very odd looks from female friends and acquantances when I would try to explain that I had spent the night before leveling. In fact, outside my family, I don't know any girls in real life who game, and the Sims doesn't count. And neither do those token girls who play casually to impress a guy. For some reason, the majority of girls still don't, or refuse, to understand the attraction of gaming. Oh well, their loss.
