were not asking for ALL macros to be considered, were asking for simple ones such as text and emotes, if you can find a way to make real money of having a macro type /dance for you, more power to you.

the fact is that if they were going to abuse the system, they would have regardless, so this is irrelevant, this thread is discussing only the positive and time saving macros that dont give an unfair advantage

I used search to find a more recent topic about this but this seems to be the most recent so If I'm reviving old threads, don't yell.

Ok, from what I understand is that you cannot use any third party software or hardware to play GW.

I used textmacros for a while to make PUGs better. example:

"attack my target/focus on this target"
"monk energy status?"
"Wait for energy regen"
"retreat back to this point"
"energy low prepare to retreat"
"spike this target"
"spike the healer"
"kill boss last -killorder goes here-"
"get out of my aggro"

Everything worked great, there was no noobing in THK with uninfused invincimonks. There were no weirdos rushing through the fireislands while the monks were leaving because their energy was gone.
PvE was fun O.o! People even learned new stuff!

After using it for about 3 days I stopped. I returned to typing text which means not communicating with people at all.
I tested something today. I joined a PUG to do a certain mission and tried to get them to do something easy and simple. They didn't do it and continued. I then started swearing (everything for science =D) so one of them would respond. One of them really did respond and the time it took us to flame eachother was enough to perform that simple action about 30 times in a row.
That proves that the majority of GW players are stupid. Better communication is therefore -needed-

The eula says:
Quote:
You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to third party tools, or any other method of support which may in any way influence or advantage your use of the Service which is not authorized by NC Interactive, including but not limited to the use of ‘bots’ and/or any other method by which the Service may be played automatically without human input.
The key here is human input. Other games I have played either offered auto-text themselves or allowed autotext as long as a human was physically located near the screen while looking at the screen.

I figured it's the same thing and used macros which were activated by me in real time and only lasted 1/10th of a second and only made a line of text show up.

Then some guy says I'm cheating and goes nuts about it, some other guy says i'm naughty, the guild says it's not allowed in GW...

So if I was cheating, then everyone else is cheating too.
Which guild doesn't use teamspeak? Yes, teamspeak is not allowed, it says so in the eula. Teamspeak influences the stuff that happens in the game and it's a third party piece of software, same with ts overlay or ventrilo.
Want to buy a cool keyboard that allows you to have macros or a mouse that gives you certain advantages? Not allowed, it says so in the eula.

From past experiences in other games I know that a Eula or a code of conduct or anything like that is only something that is used to make sueing certain people easier. A EULA is hardly ever used against a guy who uses textmacros to make noobs stop acting like noobs.
That's why nobody gets banned for using a cool keyboard, nobody gets banned for using simple textmacros and none of the teamspeakusers get banned either.

If this is true then using textmacros as a replacement for teamspeak in PUGs is allowed. If this is not true then my crusade against teamspeak in GW starts today.
And I'll start by looking at those championship finalists.

I don't think anet would care as long as it's not used botting for auto target my target, etc. I think they would over look.

If you ask, then it will be a round about no.

I recall attempting to use macros several months ago(not for farming or PvPing). It would eventually result in a Net Error 7. This happened on a number of occasions. I haven't tried using macros since.

While I can see the ease and versatility of employing macros.. ArenaNet has put substantial efforts against the automatization of its gameplay. Their goal is to engage the players in fast-paced actions, not a fully automated one-touch-kills-all system. Things will get real boring real quick, there will be a rise in griefers, farmbots, and ultimately the game will just end up like that whatchamacallit game.... oh yea, Lineage 2.

Forcing players to retype their password after pressing F12, its designed for a security purpose, while it may seem like a hassle, other people will not be able to pull-a-fast-one on you while you're afk. If there are any other "macro-able" suggestions you can think of, I'm sure Anet's support team would love to hear from you.

Hmm, so I was in a group last night and one of the party members was constantly giving color commentary. Stuff like "I'm casting fireball on so-and-so" or "I'm using a blankety-blank". There's no way someone could type these kinds of messages and play at the same time (esp w/o any typos). I thought it was some kind of feature I was unaware of, but perhaps it was a macro of some sort?

It's a feature you're not aware of. Hold ctrl and click on different things and see what happens.
