Why Don't More Rangers Care About Their Pets
GloryFox
My Beast Master FOW Build
Marks 10
Wilderness Survival 4
Expertise 10
Beast Mastery 16
Barrage (11 damage) [only 6 then less per shot then Max at 17 with a 16 Marks Pet Makes up damage loss so does TF]
Tigers Fury (11 seconds 33% faster attack speed skill recharge is 10 seconds so you can always keep it up)
Melandru’s assault (+21 damage +37 damage per enchantment and spreads damage to nearby enemies)
Call of Protection (Damage Reduction 15)
Charm Animal
Comfort Animal (Heal a lot of damage and no DP the Health is huge when resed)
Troll Unguant (I don’t need it much as I understand pet AI mechanics keep pet between you and IT)
Rebirth
Its amazing how I get called a n00b when my Pet can kill Menzie Monks and Ele’s faster then any other person on my team. I have seen my pet deal an average of 70 on most level 24 creatures. More if they have enchants and I am not counting my Barrage at a 33% faster attack rate.
I love my Pet and now I never do anything without him near my side.

No offense GloryFox, but I think you defined a noob build. Some straight forward tactics with decent dps and survival, but no synergy, utility or a about 5 other better options.
To the topic generally. The only good uses for pets seems to be for smiting, corpses and a small dps boost in pressure builds. The rate of return on the skill slots and attributes required to run a pet build seems a bit high. There are so many ways to get high damage out of a ranger from 3-4 skills, the pet approach seems inefficient.

Well the day has come. Nooblets and I are moving. I got so sad when we i took the pictures off the wall of me and nooblets. Our Krytan bungalo was so comfy and now it is empty. I just got a job trading steel in Cantha and the commute was too far. Nooblets is excited! He doesn't like boats though. (spiders can't swim ya know) The best thing is that I have been very successful in the steel industry. We are gonna be living in Luxon territory near the Jade Sea. I am considering building a house there but for now we will just rent. Please come visit Nooblets and me. Thanks for all the fan mail about our adventures together.

I gotta say, I'm loving the new beastmaster skills. I've laways liked having my pet out with me, and now... wow. My new ettin farming build relies entirely on my pet to bleed/poison/extra dmg to those with conditions/disrupt them. and it works just as well (if not faster) than my old bow build. I've seen my pet hit up to 94 against an ettin, far higher than anything I can do with my bow. I just need to get my hands on Heal as One now...
Oh and right from the final BWE I've had my pet with me always. My lil Strider from Pre-sear, Deathbird. Usually outlived me, even when I only had Charm/Comfort as BM skills...

On topic:
For me the real question is: Is there a reason to care more about my pet?
For a long time Pets skills were under par than other builds,
Pets cant be dyed,
Other than the limited Pet Evolution there no other Pet dependent characteristics that made my pet different to other pple's, different name dont count.
No Pet accessories.
Basically incoporation of pets in GW as a whole was a weak attempt at trying to create some sense of the genre of MMO games with pets in them.
Edit for spelling.

Kurt... your story has touched my heart...
Oreos N Milk is my wolf, and has always been my pet since after I helped Nente catch and send off a Stalker. Oreos and I... well, I have always made sure to bring my healing skills of both professions to keep him up with. He so bravely faces my adversary, drawing on me for support through our bond. And now that he can support me as well, we've been getting along better than ever.
I hope our companions can meet up one day, maybe take down some prey together. I know he gets along well enough with my guildmates' pets, but I need to broaden his horizons, ya know? Drop me a line, bro. ^^

My Spider is called Unit and I kiss it and hug it everyday. But sometimes it bites me and I end up with a infection, so I threw ti in really tall grass and it's funny to watch it run around in a circle because it can't find me : )

if you don't care about your pet, why have one?
I always have pets in games coz I love animals. I don't care if they're useless (which they aren't, and never have been, despite what people say). I'm used to pets from UO, where they are incredibly controllable and usable (and you can have more than one at once) but GW ones are just... awesome. I love my Moa, no way I'd ever swap him. I'm gonna get the Black Moa for my necro, and I got the Crane for my Ritualist last night (figured I might as well stick to all the birds lol). There's nothing better than watching your team moan about "why did you bring that stupid thing" then after a fight only you and your pet are alive

i heal pets as a monk in 4v4 and GvG, if the build depends on the pet, or if the other team somehow decide the pets are more important. i wont go out of the way to heal a pet though, and the team allways takes priority (that includes not healing the pet if i'm low on energy, never know when i'm gonna need it).
I think most people don't care about pets because IWAY teams utilise them as dead allies, people are so used to them being suicide bombs
most of the time, all the damage a pet takes is aoe-damage, or a warrior is building adrenaline on it

i have a lizard named Godzooki. In PvE i always take him with me. PvP it really depends on what build we do. Most PvP he doesnt participate in. Only exceptin is if team i am on is runing an IWAY build.
Anytime my pet comes...i bring either REvive Pet or Comfort animal

Nooblets now has so many friends! I dumped a large fortune and got all the minipets. Nooblets just chases them around when im not looking. I tell him to play nice.

Pets are not useless they make good fiend fodder. He's a level 20 stalker of some description. His name is Imwithstupid. I just never liked the sheer amount of skills required to make a pet useful. I mean if you want to bring one along you have to take a minimum of 2 slots up just to have it follow you and to maintain it. Now if you want him to have any useful attacks at least three more slots need to go to that. That leaves you with three slots to play with. One of those is likely a self heal like troll ungent. that leaves 2 attack skill slots...one of those will likely get taken up with a preparation leaving you with only one attack skill that you can use when your pet dies. Not a pretty picture. Their utility just does not outweigh the slot cost in my opinion.

IWAYers are the antagonists of this thread. My pet warthog, Babe, on my ranger, has been with me since the beginning, and I even resist the temptation the slice him up and eat him for bacon every single day.

my Tiger- "Hobbes" gets himself killed alot, and theres nothing I can do about it especially when I am getting raped myself. So... yeah...

well i tried moving this story to another post but got flamed by some guy in the high-council. so I will continue writing nooblets's tales on here.
Nooblets totally owns the Cantha assassins. I guess they look like big flys to him. He jumps on them and sucks them dry. I don't even have to feed him anymore. I had to bring food for him in prophecies because of all the Undead. I hope the Luxon"s big turtles don't scare my nooblets. It is awfully hard to get him movin when he is frightened.
