Experience points are almost strictly based off "time spent", which arenanet has been against promoting as a sign of excellence since the beginning. So if they were to introduce a system that allowed players to gain emotes or whatnot for PvE accomplishments, I highly doubt they would base it off something so simple as "look how long I've been playing this char!"

Experiances emotes, definatly not, i can already smell the abuse

but i definatly think there should be Achievement emotes, and that there should be "Extreeme" tests

for finishing the titain missions, an emote for example

i also think there should be more high end dungeons, but not 8 man dungeons

6 and 4's , REAL challanges

I think there should be a "score" system where every time you complete a mission or PvP match, it gives you a score based on what you did, how efficiently, and includes factors such as time. Depending on your average score, you would get a certain emote. This way its not based on how long you play, but on how well you play.

Stole my idea :-p

I was going to say there could be an emote/aura after completing all missions for that character only, thus eliminating the "MUST HAVE AURA" people.

There are already huge abundances of 3-5 man FoW groups, and 2-3 man UW groups that do fantasitically well. Wouldn't make much diff, unless the mobs were very well designed and placed.

8 man dungeons are fine, so long as they extremely hard even for 8 people. Maybe, there should be special awards for if you complete the dungeon with 7 people or less? (By this, I don't mean 7 people such that 8 people go into the dungeon and one person leaves). In other words, if you're really ambitious, go in with a 5 man team and see how you fare. The reward would be something along the lines of the rank 9 emote.

The "achievement" emote is something I would happily look forward to, and it wouldn't have such a profound effect as what is happening in Heroes Ascent. *shudder*.

/Not Signed for XP Emote

There was a similar thread in Sardelac Sanitarium.

Reasons:

Prevent - Not "high enough" rank to get in to pugs for tough missions (tk for example) or a Mo/War can't get in to group due to too high of rank and party assume there going to 55hp / smite.

Not only that anyone that farms will have very high xp.

Mixed about this acheivment emotes, I could see can't get in to party due to you've not beaten x-1 dungeon.

PvE is a joke. Remember that it is designed to be playable by the lowest common denominator, which makes it pretty weak.

I can see challenge emotes existing, but not for something as dumb as taking a smaller party into an area. Read the back of the pre-order for Factions.

So we know that PvE will be getting a form of recognition, and speed at completing a tough mission is an actual measurable, and is a challenge, as you can't simply build to be tough/invincible. Beats the heck out of experience emotes. We'll see how they implement it.

Isn't that why you have levels?

Having 1mil exp just means you've farmed, unless I'm very wrong and you can get that much simply through gameplay (all missions + quests)?

So... I guess if you want a farmer on the team, then yeah, sure, an exp. emote would help.
Not strictly true. I have 2.9 million exp, most of it obtained from Underworld in the months after release. Back then there was sort of a race to confirm whether an Underworld crafter did indeed exist. The Eternal Forge Lord used to be in Underworld during the beta event. I spent alot of time working that place out and getting 10k exp from alot of those quests.

Also do not forget that early on we used to have to earn refund points in order to buy attribute refunds when we wanted to respec or change secondary. You basically had 24 'undos' everytime you dropped an attribute point and each refund point cost 250 exp.

In the first 2 months alot of us used to repeatedly run the first quest in Underworld (and usually the other 3 from the labyrinth reaper because it wasnt especially time consuming and the loot was good). We did this for the exp to buy attribute refunds so that we could experiment a little more in pvp. That was basically how I got to know Xerin and Maya from nO and Fi respectively - since they used to run the same quest alot for the attribute refunds too. I at least racked up hundreds of thousands of exp just doing that and I wouldnt exactly call it farming.

If you changed secondary and completely respecced your primary attribute you could easily burn out all 24 refunds. So basically we were running Underworld everytime we changed builds.

Im glad they removed the need for attribute refunds in the end though. Its so much more convenient now.

But yea, some of us have millions of exp because we played the game, not farmed. Early on, farming wasnt as big an issue as it was now - we were still seeing new stuff in the game and were content to do just that.

I dont really care about having an exp emote really. I dont really care about my fame emote either and think of neither as a perfectly adequate indictor of the skill of the player. But I guess bragging rights are important to some, and I trust that ANET will handle it gracefully. Theres already quite a few people using their fame emotes in pve to get into farming groups and what not. So I guess this was to be expected.

The only people doing the emotes will be: Bot Yi, Bot Er, Bot San, Bot Su, Bot Oo, Bot Liu, all the way to Yi Bai . Expirience points don't exactly show your skill, they just show how much patience you had to 55 farm the griffons or solo some other thing.

That was my whole point, not to show skill, but to show patience and time. And yes bots will have the advantage but I could care less what bots do. Bots aren't even real players most of the time. blah...

Ah, actually I kind of like that idea. Frog emote for completing every quest in the campaign.

Why do I like that idea? Because I'd like a frog emote and they'll never be able to make a PvP frog emote as it'll have to be the highest rank which would be impossible unless they capped ranks.

Howabout having it based partially on how much of the map you've uncovered. And you get the final emote after uncovering like 98%+ of the map and have some certain amount of xp.

hmm I could maybe see an emote for how many "chapters" you beat, as in beat all the missions in the game for that chapter. So if I beat all of Chapter 1 (not including all bonus) I can show off in Cantha I've beat chapter 1.

But the emote would be different, C1 emote, C2 Emote (you may have to call what chapter you want to show).

Why not all mission + bonus ? I'd rather have one for EVERY missions+bonus+quest emote (including FoW/UW) even if now i have to track the ones i've left behind

I, too, favor the idea of giving an emote to people who've finished particularly difficult quests...maybe something for people who've done all the bonuses, for example.

On the other hand, there is something to say about people who farm a lot--I'll take a person that farms a particular area over a person who's done all of the quests any day, if I'm doing that area.

As far as it leaving n00bs to exile, oh well. I'm tired of getting killed by inexperienced "exp" players in my group. This would force them to "Prove it". I'll still help out people that haven't done it before--but this way, I'll be sure to discuss strategy as needed.

actually, if you worry cant get in group because of emote, you can always start your own group, together with all the ppl without emote.

and like many others had said, ppl who play many characters usually will have less exp than ppl that focus on one character. so, exp emote dun really show your skill. but hey, i want exp more

This idea ranks along side the "PvEers should get $100,000 too!" one.
My warrior is has never bought 15k armour and usually wears collector's armour and uses collector's weapons. Sorry to disagree with you but unless you're lucky, only the farmers end up with all that stuff you refer to as vanity items. The regular players (again unless you have a lucky seed for your character) really don't. One of my guildies is a farmer. I've completed all the quests and missions in the world with my warrior plus Fissure quests and a few UW quests (clear fissure, furnace several times), whereas he mainly farms ettins. He has Fissure Armour and I do not have anything even close.

The idea is sound. An emote for quests/missions/finishing the game/all fissure quests/all uw quests/all titan quests/ all furnace quests/etc. I had a guildie finish the game for the first time today. Wow, what a letdown the ending was for him (free boat trip to - not going to say where just in case)..

P.S., sometimes it doesn't mean you are an elitist pig to flash something like that (if they are implemented). some people are just too narrow minded (nay-sayers) that they can't see it can also be used for good (the wise-been there done that- mentor/big brother/friend).. I think too many people here are either jaded by the bad things (or poor implementations of good things) that they don't see any good. Most of the nay-sayers probably either got burned or burned someone else. Some of us just move on. Some of us like to help people. Having an emote that says you've completed the game may convince one of you or someone new that you might actually be able to help them in a tough mission or give advice that is worth listening too.

I mean take these forums for example. I was talking to a co-worker in my guild the other day about how I noticed my title had increased after so many posts. We both agreed that's about the dumbest idea we've heard of in a forum because it doesn't take into account whether you are just hammering out crap or actually making some kind of sense. If it can be done here, then it can be done in game as well, maybe even better.

People keep saying that EXP means nothing in PvE. I DO NOT agree (when talking about people with 5mill exp+), but this is just like saying rank means nothing in PvP... which I agree with as well.

People keep saying that the rank emote would be abused, I don't agree with this at all.. I think that the rank emote in PvP is totally ABUSED where as the EXP emote would NOT be...

Here is the reason.... in PvE everytime you create a new character you start with no exp...right? So for people to be in THK asking for a rank emote would be dumb... how many people with 2mill exp would be doing THK?

I say that there be NO exp emote for under 1mill exp.... and that they should start at 1mill exp and go up accordingly like 1mill, 2mill, 4mill, 8mill, etc.. something like this..

I think its reasonable to expect people to have atleast 1mill exp to go into FoW or UW.... even if they don't atleast they can say they have experience and can take directions, I for one take people with any exp into FoW or UW and help them out if they have never been before..

Does make sense. I could get rank 9 solely playing IWAY then spam R9 mesmer lfg and have no experience whatsoever as a mesmer. And I don't think people are honestly going to power level a million+ experience just for skill points considering the amount of gold it would cost to find someone to do that much leveling.

Yes!...

This is something that should most DEFINATLY put in...

Although the details are sketchy.. and im not sure about if these emotes should be completley "experience points" related..

Gaile Obviously feels that PvE'ers need some kind of bragging rights also, and I agree with her, its only right.

As for the argument that it would create the problem of people requesting an emote at thunderhead keep...well, whats wrong with that?... I mean, seriously!... if you have rushed the game, not botherd to do side quests or even bonus's... or skipped entire quests out, then really, do you deserve to be picked for a team that REALLY wants to get thunderhead done?...no.

Experience points are EASY to get... its not like gaining Rank points which are basically impossible, unless you already have a rank... which is a catch 22 situation

Experience points are also directly related to skill points, so someone with alot of XP will have alot of skills unlocked, which, despite there abilities, as a teamleader you can at least say..."please take this skill and that one"

You also have to remember that nearly every other Multiplayer RPG game out there has the ability to give information about your character to another player.... in Guildwars there is only ONE way to do this... rank emote...which proves what?... nothing really. (its widley known that r3 peeps can be just as noob as non-ranked)

its about time characters should be able to give other information to other players OTHER than your rank!

What about Fame points?

Faction points?

Character age..

Deaths..

How long in your current guild...

guild rank?.. and rating?..

Lets get all this info opened up to the public.. stop the division between ranked and non-ranked people...

an XP emote would be a good start : )

I think it's a pretty bad idea myself, it is like many say as bad of an idea as fame and rank, which really only seperates those who have played the game in HA for way too much against the newer people who are probably every bit as good, just not quite as experienced. As Ractoh says, getting rank 9 is no achievement, any idiot could do it with some gimmick build if they stick at it long enough... and then use it to join groups as something they have no experience with... many actually do this, not really their fault either - they _have_ to do it to get into a group nowadays because there is so much elitism going on... that said, your average rank 6 group is better than your average rank 3 group - but there is a significant amount of people in both group types who are clueless. And some of the rank 9 players, when trying to run non-gimmick builds in Team Arenas can be down right laughable..... and at the end of that, my conclusion is fame, emotes... whatever... in pvp and pve is not a good idea, in my opinion, but i like my pretty animal...

It's something that shouldn't be important in picking your groups, but since it's there - it is used a lot

I completely agree with this sort of thing. I think a really good one, not an emote or noticable by the player themselves, but something that tells me that that person is very experienced PvE-wise. I think emotes and ranks are better left to PvP people for bragging/trash-talking purposes, but if I'm in a tough mission and would like to get into a really good group and complete it, I think there should be something noticable about the character, like say, if they have completed all the quests leading up to there, then put some kind of a marking indicator for that, instead of just some idiot who got ran there and ran through every mission (although some missions can't be ran). Because it's the PvE aspect I'm thinking about here, I don't think PvE'ers would care if it's something they couldn't see themselves, but others could, like if I target so and so who's LFG for a mission and I notice that they only did like 3 quests and just burned through the rest of the game somehow, I would think, "Well, I don't think I wanna get in a group with THAT guy, he'll probably just wanna burn through this mission too and be annoying, calling people names and what not through the entire mission.". So what my idea boils down to doesn't introduce somebody to show something or flash an emote, or have some really outrageously expensive armor, but something that's obvious to everyone else. Some kind of icon by their names or something, that way, you can also tell who's there to help with missions, and has already completed further quests, or explored highly difficult areas, etc.

Like I mentioned though, leave the stuff out that can be used as a means to demean players with like flashy emotes or rank to whoever wins the basketball game the most or something. Just put up a simple icon by their names that says how far along in the storyline they are and which areas they have encountered and survived or something, that way, instead of asking them to prove themselves to me, so I can pretend to be all that, it will be plainly visible to me whether or not these people are going to be good in a group.

Exp and the new Pve bragging rights will not be a emote per se. Evidence:

Anet is a business.
Anet employees play the game.
People who play the game know how much the emote system has pissed off a large number of people.
Pissed off customers is bad for business.
Anet *tries* not to piss off a large number of people without due cause (game rebalance would count as due cause) and therefore will learn from mistakes.
Therefore, Anet will not implement a exp emote.

They do want Pve to earn respect, how to do this will be elite missions that require skill and then post scores on it. Not a rank, but a way to measure success. Separating some from mass creates elitism by design, but hopefully Anet will refine their method of rewards.

Sorry if it's already been mentioned in this thread, but Gaile mentioned somewhere or other there might be "titles" of some kind for accomplishments, so that might be similar/replacement idea instead of emotes.
