Look, if you haven't the creativity to do anything else, just go back to farming the same Ettins in Nebo Terrace with W/* or */W, and just sprint past the damn Tengu. Might take you an extra half minute per run because Mergoyles can't be used as free energy for balt spirit any more. Boo freaking hoo.

It's disappointing to me, because it seems like just about every PuG that I join in PvE wants to blow through the missions like a bat out of hell, skip the cinematics and ignore any drops that aren't yellow or purple. And in every mission zone it seems that the majority of groups are either farmers or looking to do the bonuses only, and then blow out of the mission. It's really discouraging.
Only reason I can see for this is that many players see PvE as just a big unlock area for PvP, and a money pool. Where are all the people who actually enjoy playing PvE and aren't in such a blasted hurry all the time. If I stop to read any text, click on signs or pick up items dropped for me, the rest of my party is off the compass. And in just about every cinematic, I'm the only one who doesn't want to skip, and then they give me a hard time about it afterwards.

There are still some good spots to farm using a proper build and skill set. I did notice the one place I like to go had the mobs buffed a bit more but it just presented a better challenge now. I salvaged a superior absorp last night and a superior vigor this morning. But as the patch notes said, Anet will be watching carefully over the next few weeks how and where people farm so it looks like the few good spots that are left will be changed soon also.
Btw: It might have been stated earlier but Anet said in the latest patch that they will do something so that farming isn't necessary and people can acquire unlockables through normal gameplay. Perhaps some of us should reserve judgement and wait and see over the next few weeks what they have in store.

I reach a point were its not a blue, I am not picking it up ... but I am a ascended character in the last stages of the game and so I am picky over loot, my inventory is full of runes and upgrades that I cannot use and also does not seen to be a market for.

People - the PvE-players didn't go rune-faming - they didn't need it - they BOUGHT runes off players which was the same as buying them off a trader who now just "mediates" between the sellers and buyers. You still have to farm if you want to unlock the runes.
AND the rune prices are based on supply and demand and thus you can make just as much money by farming them as you did before. The trader gives good rune-price guidelines. I find even more pple willing to buy some runes they didn't want to buy earlier cause they thought I sold them for too much money - now they see how popular and expensive they are. :-P
Don't you see an analogy to the crafting material/dye market? People are still selling those items at reasonable prices though there ARE traders.
I think ANet is trying to limit the E-Bay market (which is lame and illegal) - they bring more and more buyer-seller mediating solutions into the game itself which solves the off-game trading. I mean - a guy sells a rune to the trader and another one buys it - where's the difference to the old system? The prices? For the right runes they're high enough. Some minor runes are worth only 150gp? Well - they WERE worth just as much before the update so that nobody but the gratest fools would have bought them for more. If you don't like selling anything to the trader, then get some good runes and sell them A BIT cheaper - I assure you that you will find MORE buyers right now as people are more aware of the real rune prices.
Btw. Did you observe the "rune trader camping phenomenon" yet? I did - people are waiting like ultures to get their greasy fingers on a rune of Sup Absorption or Vigor. ^^ I think the old way of buying them might turn out more effective.

What happened to playing a game for the sake of playing a game?! Everyone is so damn greedy and "LOOK WHAT I GOT THAT YOU DON'T HAVE!" instead of "I just beat this awesome mission and at one point 6 of my group were dead and I used my Rez Signet to bring the monk back and kept the mobs off him while he rezzed the whole group and we made it by the skin of our teeth!" It's a GAME! It's an ADVENTURE!
My group of friends have all sorts of stories about unbelievable fights. When we first got cutscenes in the middle of the wall mission we were like HOLY CRAP! A freakin' CUT SCENE in an MMORPG! That's awesome! When NPCs came along side us to fight with us, we were in shock and awed! The first time I saw one of those flaming dragon sword things I was like WOW! That's cool!
Gear doesn't matter. I still have a crappy sword just because I like how it looks. Does it do uber damage? Naw. Do I care? Not really. I'd rather look cool.
In other words, enjoy the drive to the destination, there are tons of amazing things to see and do and stories to be told. It's not always the destination that's the fun part. Don't be so greedy, don't worry about having to have cool stuff right now. You'll get it all eventually. Just enjoy the story, enjoy the quests and develop strategies to make them more interesting and fun! Try suicide attacks just to see if you can do it!
A novel idea - Play the game for what it is. A game!

I'm not a fan of the nerfing in this new patch. Now I don't dislike it because I want to be super rich I just wanted to farm so I could get enough money for the 15k armor, some good runes to go with it and black dyes. I used to be able to get some ok money, but in the last patch they made the monsters I was farming go from giving 200 gp for 10 kills to 17 gp for 10 kills. I've done all the missions already so, I'm just trying to be able to make a nice PvE-PvP character. I understand making it so the rich don't get richer, but this also makes the poor stay fairly poor. *sigh* A-net, how is this supposed to reduce grind...
Lim-Dul
Nah - you can still get rich by farming. Sell the runes to the trader or for a bit lower than the trader - you will still make good money. And what about the godly items you can get and sell?
Everything stayed the same for me. It's just easier to buy and sell runes - you don't have to do some city-hopping for like 2 hours to get a good offer in a trade - you just walk to the trader (and his prices represent the supply-demand-ratio anyway) and either you HAVE the money or you do not.

So no more unlocking items for pvp mode? just pvp modewith max, and pve characters have to unlock (find) items?
I guess that makes sense as long as pve pvp battles still exist.

Ehm - you still have to UNLOCK runes. The trader runes are sold identified so you don't unlock anything.
Btw. as for the capturing of elite skills. This was easy anyway - the only thing that was hard, was doing it with random parties - you had to explain your intentions to the pple for half an hour and then they messed it up anyway by killing the boss before you captured shit. This was PURELY annoying and did have as much to do with skill as going to the toilet.

I think it's funny everyone insists you need this stuff for PVP. I created the default trapping ranger character for PVP and I own CONSTANTLY in PVP and I don't use any runes or upgrades at all, hell, other than naming my character and changing the armour to purple, I don't even edit any of the settings or skills.

How dare you NOT pay 100K for +10hp!? Or 100K for -1dmg! You're skilled, but you don't have the uber-eq every PvP player needs! (Cause he thinks it will make him/her a better player ;-)

I bought the game when it came out, and have played it in my "spare" time.... (I have a full-time job and a wife to worship) Before the patch, I had only found one rune (a minor monk rune) that I wasn't able to salvage anyways.... Post-patch I have already gotten two rune drops (minor ones) and have noticed that rarer items seem to be dropping at a higher rate now.... The only problem I see is that the runes I get is that nobody (IMHO) wants them anymore 'cause you can buy them from the trader....
BTW- I have yet to have more that 1500 gold in my bank at one time... (I've been trying to buy a guild cape forever now) Someone tell me how "everybody" seems to have excessive amounts of gold.... Ebay?? Player collaberation?? Can someone loan me some gold??
Edit: I am also one of those older players that likes to stop and look at the scenery.... when Charr pit bulls aren't violently trying to mug me!

What lvl are you know? The gold problems stop at around lvl17 or so and definitely at lvl20. =)
I can farm the 1500 gold on any mission/quest now (items+gold combined - not counting the market value of the items).
Don't worry - you'll be rich soon. ^^
I have yet to remember the time when I was UNDER 10K. ;-) Seems like sooo long ago - ah! Now I know! When I started my third character I had to dye him and equip him all the time - that's when my money dropped under 10K at a certain point of time. ^^

My drops today were as good or better than usual. I didn't notice a problem. Sometimes though you just have a crappy day with drops, or conversely a great day.

I also stop to appreciate the scenery. And yeah, I use henchies so that they don't run off without me (patient souls). Maybe we need to make a Mighty Sightseers Guild so that those of us who are going slowly through the game looking things over can find companionship beyond henchmen.

I have 4 friends who are all casual players who like the story, so we just load up the healer henchie and some extras and we're off.
And I still disagree, I don't think you NEED runes to be successful at PVP, you need a good team that plays as a team.

Ever see someone asking to buy lots of wood? They're using it to make rolls of parchment and then selling those rolls back to the trader when the prices are up. Same can be done for just about any items.
Most people think that farming is only effective if there are gold and purple drops all the time, but in actuality just about anything found and sold back to the traders at the right time, or even the merchants, can gain one gold relatively quickly. Not that great for the casual player who doesn't have time, but it is possible.
Save up some cash and buy a bunch of rare materials or bulk crafting materials at like 4am on Tuesday morning, then hold onto them until 7pm Friday night and go sell. It won't give tons of cash on a single trade, but if done enough that one can invest in more and more items, they will slowly build up a profit.

Again, think broader, think an entire team running at an overall 10-20% boost in efficiency by using a superior rune for the main attribute on their build. Can you see the difference?
It might be nothing against the regular tombs PUG, but sometimes that +30dmg lightning orb can be enough to someone from your team and give the enemy the decisive advantage on a close match(player skill being relatively equal) to win the match.
In my opinion runes are not the decisive factor in most matchs, but when you face a team as skilled as you, as organized as you, with builds that aren't necessarily the counter to each other, tell me if you wouldn't want your team to be running at an 10-20% efficiency boon.
And for that, why put yourself in a possible bad situation if you don't need to?
Between loosing because the enemy had better runes than me, and farming so I can have a fair match in equal grounds, I'd do the second...
But wait, there are those who will do neither of them, instead they will just get themselfs away from the game until you don't have to spend dozens of hours just to put yourself in equal grounds.
rei
Guild Wars is a game intended to provide the Best PvP Experience. Although some may grind about the recent changes they made towards or against PvP, i actually like to think of it as a bit of Fluctuation. If no one had noticed, the trading prices from Dye traders, Rune Traders, Material trader.. etc Fluctuates. The farming locations fluctuate, the drops may increase from the grind Anet receives, may nerf even more. But my point is, this is a game of Fluctuation and THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!

I think arena net uses some internal randomization engine or something, I notice no significant rise or fall in drops. I think you just want to complain.

I actually spend a fair time soloing. I don't know anyone yet who plays, although I've been suggesting it to a few folks I regularly play other types of games with. I won't hold my breath for them. I just recreated my Mesmer, and am starting over again, so I have him (Grellis, way back to lv1), a Ranger/Monk (Goldbriar lv7), and an Elementalist (Loamfist lv4), all three still in Pre-Searing.
I guess I'm afraid of joining a PuG and getting burned by another bunch of...hmm...individuals of varying maturity, patience, and vocabulary? (I think that's appropriately diplomatic.) Call me PuG-shy. I'm not against it fully, but...just shy.

Well, I was shocked at the increase in difficulty last night. I headed out to a decent spot with just a healer. This is usually enough to handle the groups of 3-4 tengu. I don't think I made it 100 yards without being swarmed by 10 or so. I'm usually very good at limiting the number of enemies to 4 and under.
I went back and grabbed a npc brawler and mage. Same results. I didn't bother with a full party.
The one comment I have is that quite often, I'm not out farming, I like to explore and fill in the maps. The terrains are quite good in GW and I'm just one of those types who would like to see everything. This kind of exploring has became far more difficult (expecially with the dumb henchies attacking rather than sneaking).

Drops were *bleep* for me last night, but my gf was picking up purples and a gold, so overall not much change.
I am truely dissapointed that you can just *buy* runes now. I've played since November and seen maybe 4 runes all told. I got a kick out of seeing them, but now that I can just run down to Safeway and pick up a half-dozen, the joy has been lessened.
But ya know what? The games still ROCKS!

and since the patch i have gotten 6 minor runes of which 5 salvaged
why is that special you ask?
because in 80+ hours of play those were the first runes i got
