Chest Farming
Bragg Madaxe
Aren't there any good farming spots near Shivers Peak or Frost Gate? I'm not as far along as you guys, and I've NEVER found a single gold item, and I'm getting ready to enter Kryta.

Best overall item ive found was a Gold armor that i got a Sup ele rune I didnt ID and sold for 7K, {that i was offerd for it, wasnt asking 7 k} . How often on Quests u people expect to find gold items, Like 1 out of every 3 quests. Talking After LIons Arch.

Has anyone else been noticing that lots of chests are empty? I normally dont have any luck with them in the first place, but they usually have something in them. Now about every time they are just empty. I never farmed any chests but I was thinking maybe they removed the drops entirely until that issue gets resolved.

Linoleum, when you open these chest are you going with a party of henchies? because this is usually the case with empy chests. if you're going solo, then i have no idea why these chests are empty? everytime i go solo, every chest i open always has something.
noblepaladin
I find that henchies always take my items from chests. In Chests where 2-3 items drop, I expect it at least 1/4 of the time, however I get items virtually 1/20 of the time. Maybe it's my luck...

What Now Homie
Yep, henchies leech a big percentange of the gold/item drops.
About a month ago, there was a series of 4 chests in the northern shiverpeaks that was north of beacons perch, you could only acess the chests if you had a quest called "The Deserters" in your log. You would grab about 3-4 gold and purple items a run. The closest way was to leave south from Ice Tooth Cave. Lots and lots of perfect upgrades, I had a perfect staff (20% enchanting, +30 health) that turned into some wood planks though, made me REALLY mad. Now it just drops cruddy blue items that have sucky upgrades. I've been running around looking for some more chests that drop like that, and from this topic I see that Divinity Coast drops somewhat like that. I will also try that dread run. If someone has a map of its location in dreads, Id greatly appreciate it if you PMed it to me.

I dont fell like reading every single post to see if this was mentioned but ill share the wealth since it wont last much longer. There is a chest just straight outside marhans grotto and it drops lots of max and near max items most are blue though. It allways drops 1-3 items at a time so about. I get around $150 a run.
Xeno Demachilo
Its been mentioned before..Gee..What a surprise.. Anyways that chest is nice i guess..Ive gotten 2 firey dragon swords (weak damage) and about 4 Max Damage swords..Ive also gotten 3 max defense shields..I just salvage it all except the max items..You get about 8 material per item..
MasterQu
Is it just me or is anet nerfing these things faster than they can be found?
Sunrazor
My two favorite chest-farming spots right now are the spots outside Marhan’s Grotto and Droknar’s Forge.
The Grotto run is by far the easier of the two – there’s a single chest that drops between 1-4 items. It once dropped a gold item for me, but mostly it’s been whites with the occasional blue. To get to it just head straight out of the Grotto heading east. It’s just over the top of the first hill. The Forge run is a lot longer and more involved, but I’ve found that it’s slightly more lucrative overall. The Forge run has you coming out the west exit and going straight northwest into the troll cave. There’s one chest near the entrance that usually drops items. Once inside the cave, take the west passage to get to a chest that drops gold, and then turn around and go out the northeast exit of the cave. Head northwest towards the area with the giants and the Avicara where there are two more chests, one that usually drops items and the other that usually drops gold.
After quite some time on both, I find that the Grotto runs average 156.9 gold per minute, while the Forge run averages 174.2 gold per minute (gold from merchant only). If you’re selling to other players, the Forge run will probably be better yet, as you’re more likely to get max damage items. Both are in the 10k per hour range. The Forge run is more likely to drop dragon swords and fellblades while the Grotto run drops more staffs and focuses.

*Edit* Ive been doing the grotto run forever though..For about a month probably.
Sunrazor
The purple dots are the approximate locations of the chests for the Droknar's Forge run. The first two chests are easy to get to, the latter two often not quite so much, and it's sometimes faster to just get the first two.
Xeno Demachilo
I see..Any figures on how many runs itll take to get a purple/rare..And how many runs it took you to get your first FellBlade and Firey Dragon Sword?
justinkim
i got alot of fiery dragon sword in the marham grotto run, all blue, and i think 2 were max damage
Xeno Demachilo
Ive gotten 2 from the grotto run, both like 13-17.. And firey dragon swords are always blue, due to the fire damage.
Orochim4ru
um, fiery dragon swords can be purple and gold too

GRR Im getting very mad at you. READ THE WHOLE THREAD PLEASE. Chest farming is when you find a chest, (close to a town) And just rezone and open it over and over again for the items. Oh and not to be mean, but your grammar is HIDEOUS..Along with your spelling in your other posts..
impkim92
ohhh that easy thanx

(that was back before they were so well known about)
anywho, fiery sword with awseom mods seem to sell for less than say a long sword with the same mods. i dont care for them. however, i have gotten 2 crystalline swords so far. one is 14-20, and the other is 13-19. but both have +19% longer enchanting as well as another random mod, and are rare.
im not gona give out my spot, sorry to all who want me too. however i will give a tip on how to find the perfect farming spot. run. i found mine by runing through each area i could finding and opening each chest. i did the same on missions. the area where i go isnt a walk in the park like the divinity coast one. there are many chests in the area and the good one doesnt ever seem to be in the same place. sometimes its not even there. so just go for a jog, if you dont find a good chest spot youl probably find a good farming spot.
Night Daftshadow
Straight and simple, Southern Shiverpeaks give the best drops as you can tell from previous posts. I myself gotten a 5:1 vampiric bow from this area. Not from a chest though.

Nice spots guys, thanks for posting.

By looking at the total views for this thread (30,000+ compared to af few dozen or hundred for other threads), it's so blatantly obvious people want to find more stuff, yet the developers keep taking it away, so we rush to threads like this hoping for a hint at some place to get a few more gold pieces.
Some people shoot down farming, but in the end, we want guild halls, armor, and other stuff that can only be had by insane amounts of gold. The whole idea of nerfing an area to punish players is ludicrous.
The numbers are screaming-"Where's all the good stuff? Stop punishing the players!"
I feel so much better now.

I think it's rather a case of people wanting as much as possible as fast as possible, and preferably without anyone else getting any. People think they want a lot of gold in this game, because they don't have it. If ArenaNet would for instance put farmable chests in the game that gave 100,000g each, people would instead complain about the game being way too easy, about gold being valueless, etc.
They're not punishing players, they're making sure areas give equal opportunities to get gold, rather than certain areas giving significantly more than others which destroys the reason of going anywhere else but a certain area over and over again. That somewhat balances wealth across the playing field instead of rewarding only those 'in the know' about a certain spot or chest. Ofcourse people want to cheat this balance to get more than the next guy, but I don't see why ArenaNet should cater to them.

I don't think its cheating the system per sae. Honestly I just ram a charecter through the game playing the story line and I get to Drokners Forge. Do I have the rescources or capital to buy new armor? Heck no I'm not even close! Now granted I would expect ot haver to put some time into exploring to make up differences but were talking about still needing 80% of the requirements. Now I ask is the system balanced? No it not.
Now personally I don't want to have to farm and grind for ever and ever to get 1.5k (not 15k mind you) armor. To this day I still haven't had any mob drop a superior viger or absorbtion rune for me. So here I go farming away so I can at least hold up some semblence of compition in a pvp match because so many people do have the good stuff.
Now I learn about the barrel runs. Hmm... Spend a little time doing boring running to get money to buy what I need and not have to spend long amounts o time grinding. Just sounds like good common sense to me.
This is an alternative means to find funds for those who Don't want to spend ALL there time grinding.
Now I can concentrate on doing skill captures....grind....grind....grind.....
*In ANET's defense, they have repeatedly stated they are not nerfing to hurt the players just to stop bot usage.*

The worst part about is that you could spend 10 hours solo farming and only get around 50k (I'm not exactly sure about the real amount you would get). Minimum wage pays around $5 an hour and farming is a job because no one wants to have to farm. So spend $50 in time for the hopes of getting 50k or spend $6 for a guarenteed 100k. That just proves how messed up the economy is. Then they nurf the drops so not just the botters but the players are hurt also. If anet just gave better rewards for players near the end of the game then it would solve a lot of fustration to the players who don't buy ebay money.

Anyone wanting to switch farming areas/Chesting runs PM me with yours and I will reply with mine! I do not have chest runs but I do have a few farming runes yielding about 500gold per >5minutes.

anet has gotta do something in the next update to fix the economy or in the expansion, i cant wait for that expansion.

Brother Mhenlo, I'd just like to take a moment (seeing as this thread has already been bastardized well beyond the original point of the post) to thank you for your regular input, scathing witticisms, and hilarious little entendre's that continue to make reading these forums a regular joy. I'd like to make mention of the fact that you deserve the title of Educator as you so desperately desire (Why did you stop spamming your little plea in every message? I'm sure it was going to work!) because dammit, you deserve it. You've continued to educate me as to what the opinion of the average Guild Wars player is on every subject, in every forum, on every thread. You're the shining example of most of the players in this game. Thank you for bringing that aspect of realism to the boards which represent it!
Brother Mhenlo
if only everyone was like you, most people critiscize my posts but in all of my posts i state my opinion, u dont have to agree (most do of course, and benefit greatly from it finding great joy in all aspects of their life), but once again all my posts state my opinion. im glad we see eye to eye.

Great, bump an exactly 2-month-old thread for no reason...there are PMs. The OP's question has been answered, chest farming is much different now. Although it's a bit harder for chest farming to be profitable now.
Brother Mhenlo
im sorry for thanking someone
