New to Guild Wars? New Player? Not sure what to do? Have a question?

Hello all. Although I've played WoW & ROSE, I'm new to this game. Although the graphics are amazing, the character building is very good & the combat is engaging.. I gotta tell you.. I'm kinda confused on how this game runs..
I'm not a huge RPG guy, but there are some things I love about them:
build up your character (not necessarily leveling) and building/earing new/better weapons & armour. I love saving up $ and meterials to be able to make a cool new sword or a neat Robe. It's like a goal among goals, very fun. I also love exploring. Seeing new places, making it past hordes and bosses to get somehwere new. (possilbly a place with better items! =P)
But in GW, it is very different. The town I started at had VERY few vendors and the items were near useless since I found just about all of them in an hour of fighting. (BTW that's my other issue= you get WAY too many weapons from enemies. It takes the fun out of the rare "Ooo! a new BOW!")
Anyways, I wanted to know a few things:
Are there a lot of items and shops and special crafters & such? Have I simply not reached them yet?
Are there a lot of aspects to building up your character? (I know there are only 20 levels) but are there a lot of skills, Spells, abilities, clothes, pets, mounts etc..??
Is the world big? like WoW size?
what the heck is "pre-searing"???
Thankyoooouu Beatrooooot!!!

is there a command in GW that will allow me to search for a player to see if they are online or whatever? Is there a friend list?
Ozymandias
I've been playing for about a week, and the only thing I'm still confused about is the Hall of Heroes announcements. If one continent has "the favor of the gods," what does that actually mean, and who does it affect? Does it only affect the guilds fighting in the Hall of Heroes, or does the whole country get some small boost?

My guild is RP only at the moment and don't want to do a lot of PVP right now, but we want a guild hall, and we can't get one since none of the sigil traders on the islands have a celestial sigil (no one in the guild is much farther then lions arch at the moment). so how can we get a guild hall?
colegrove49
Ok, all I want to know is how to get out of a guild.
KiegeKiamora
Can anyone tell me where to find the Elem. robe pre serin?

Im looking for pets as binned my stalker pre searing in hope of something more evil.
But cant find any now.
Any tips on where to find some - would like an evil stalker or a bear perhaps?
Went back to reagent valley to find some where they were last time - ie near fountain/statue that heals you but cant seem to find my way back, plus every now and then i get gang mobbed and killed.

For guy above asking what presearing is -
Dont wanna spoil it too much but if done all missions from Cpt or king (cant remember title) Tyridis? the guy you very first speak too standing on platform.
You then get this pvp battle,a nd the searing thing get explained

I'm just curious when you are able to begin PvP activites with a RP character? From what I can tell you have to speak with Sir Tydus and join the academy first... can someone please verify this? TIA p.s. I have been having a blast playing in the PvE sections of the world and am only L-7 W/Mo so I dont wanna leave too early to join the academy! -Mud |

To add also - yes u leave a part of ascalon behind as i found out - ie had quest items to hand in that the quest givers are not around anymore - but loads more pve stuff to do.
If played other games think of where u are now as EQ2 - isle of refuge? ie training getting to know game area.

Hows this for a "Newb" question...
Do I need WoW to play GW? I never thought so but when I tok a trip to amazon.co.uk to buy GW I was offered a deal on a GW/WoW package.
I used the search function for queries and came up with 500 threads and I didn't want to read through this full thread to check if it was here as this can be answered straight away.
Thanks in advance

GW and WoW have nothing to do with each other whatsoever, what you saw on amazon is something called "marketing"
Newb
It never mentioned anywhere that they weren't related and in most threads WoW is brought up so thanks for answering my question but maybe you should answer it minus the the sarcasm next time

But things are so much simpler when I can get first hand clarification. The games must be similar (or else people wouldn't be making comparisons) so to put my mind at rest I asked a simple enough question. I asked for help and I got it with added sarcasm. I never checked the companies although maybe I should have and wouldn't have to ask a difficult to handle question ... it would be different if I was asking if GTA San Andreas was an add on for Metal Gear Solid 3 :P lol

I have another question which I apologise in advance if its another dumb one (see my name hehe) but is it like RuneScape which I tried once and didn't go back to because my connection kept on being lost due to either
A) My computer (1.70GHz processor, 128MB of RAM, 40GB Hard disk)
B) My Internet connection (589.8Kbps, Broadband)

I have looked all over and I have tried to ask people, how do I get a guild hall, we have a sigil but I can't seem to find out what I do next..anyone know please?

Okay, so I've played quite a few MMORPG's and none have 'sucked' me in too much. I'm currently playing World Of Warcraft and have previously played Final Fantasy XI and Lineage II. World Of Warcraft is obviously the most popular MMORPG at the time being, but I still don't get the rush from it that I got with The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time (for example). With all that being said, here are my questions...and if possible please try to answer my questions in comparison to the games I have listed above. (If you've played them)
1. The biggest turnoff I'm having about Guild Wars is the fact that almost every zone in the game is 'instanced'. Is this really a setback, or a blessing in disguise?
2. Leveling system...how does it work? From what I understand the maximum level is 20...? Does it take a long time to level up? Could I perhaps catch up to my cousin who's been playing this game since it released?
3. Clothing/armor. One great thing about World Of Warcraft is how much you could customize your character with different outfits and whatnot. Appearance is by far my most favored thing in any RPG (well, physical customization), how is this supported in Guild Wars? I know you can edit face, skin tone, etc etc, but what about different clothes?
4. Primary/Secondary classes. In Final Fantasy XI you could have your primary class which you got the most out of (ability/stats-wise), and your secondary class which added in some of it's traits to form some wicked combination...but, some combinations were pointless. For instance, a Ninja(Roguish) / White Mage (healer) would be a stupid choice. So, in Guild Wars can you just choose what you like and still remain a half decent character?
5. Guilds. Guilds obviously has to be the main point of this game. Somewhere in my reading I noticed a 'guild hall', is this housing for your guild? I love having a house for my character in any/every game I play, sadly World Of Warcraft didn't offer that and Final Fantasy XI did offer it, but your house was 'instanced', so only -you- could enter it.
6. More questions on the way ^_^
I hope my questions made sense, if not I can always rephrase them.
Thanks in advance to any advice/answers

1. They are called districts and it basically stops ur screen from freezing up altogether with mass players in one area like it does in WoW..... where you fancy some pvp make your way down to TM 20 seconds freeze and your dead. Of course this is also useful in other circumstances in GW where you go to the arena to do some pvp and there is a group in the 1-10 arena that think they are awesome with 2 level 11's and 2 level 10's beating on level 6 and 7's for some kind of ego trip..... sorry lol just irritated me mildy yesterday.
2. Really fast i had game 2 days and i'm level 10 took bout 10 hours i think but then my friends were helping me who have played since release so not sure if this is the case. But levelling isn't really the issue from what i have experienced (in my small amount) but finding the new skills and spells for your professions is.
3. In WoW i don't think anyone was unique in their armour at all. Everyone hit 60 then everyone wanted the best items you could get and therefore evry single player of the same class was wearing the same armour ie. Shadowcraft, Devout...etc the class set armour. The classes seem really cool i picked a monk/necro kinda mix like dark magic with light magic... i think you could probably mix and 2 professions and get huuuge benefits from both it seems really well worked. And you can customise your clothes any way you want with dyes. So you can have any colour you want.
4.....
5. Don't know but i think you need a guild hall to participate in the ummmm... like ultimate pvp arena thing forgot its name, or to declare hostility on another guild.
6. Sorry for going on but i'm at work bored and this is the first forum i have been able to post on due to company fire walls -.- . I just know i'm gonna try to post this now after spending 10 mins typing and its going to be blocked. :P

1. There are districts which seperates the players up a bit while in town, but with less the 100 people in the same place you can actually accomplish things due to the lack of lag, when you leave a town your party gets its own version of it, this prevents looting and Kill Stealing, but it also reduces the MMO part a bit.
2.I've heard that you can reach the level cap in a weekend of hard playing, and that is true in my experiance (although I have never done it that fast) so you can easily catch up with people that have been playing since the game was released.
3.You get to choose how your character looks when you make him, and you can get dyes to change the colour of your armour, (which there are several types of for each class).
4.When you choose your primary class, that determings what armour you can use, and it also give you access to the primary attribute that you don't have if you choose it as secondary, and when you choose your secondary class you get access to all it's skills and attributes (other then the primary).
5.Guild Halls are a place for your guild to meet up, and are where Guild V. Guild battles take place.

I could use a little help regarding crafting.. are all the armor crafters only in the post-sear world? I'm level 7 right now, but I've been collecting crafting items since I started, so I've got a great stock right now, and lots of gold too. I'm ready for some bigger/better armor and weapons, but cant seem to find anywhere to craft them.. ?
Any help?

I think that in Pre-Searing you can only get new armor from collectors, armor crafters are Post-Searing only...

Hey everyone,
Well i am new to the game (GF gave it for birthday) and had a few questions.
1) as an experienced online RPG'er i am wondering if this game is any good in comparison to the games i've played.. I've played EQ from kunark to elemental planes, i've played EQ2 till lvl 25.
2) is this a game like EQ, where you have to put in alot of time to progres.
3) is there alot of downtime? how's the lag? what are the minimums your computer needs to play the game swiftly?
Greetings, Brainstorm

you don't need to put any effort at all really in to making progress, since you can reach the lvl cap (lvl 20) in a weekend of hard playing, but that's when the best parts of the game start. and there's very little lag and/or downtime in my experiance.

Hello, all.
I am quite the hardcore gamer, but I really mainly play console games. However, I did (finally!) get my hands on a new laptop with all the fixins (firewire, 512mb ddrram, etc), so I thought that this would be the perfect game to get me into the world of mmorpgs.
However, I find that (despite my video card - an ATI Radeon IGP 345M with the latest drivers) the game doesn't run too great. Are there compatability issues with my card? Is there anything I can do?

Hello!
This site is quite the accomplishment...you guys did awesome!
anyways...on to the actual question.
Im a newbie, and I do not actually OWN the game (yet). Im thinking of becoming a mesmer/elementalist...but im not entirely sure about that. The question I have is if mesmers (or casters) can actually USE a weapon. The reason I ask this is because mesmers dont really have any attack capabilities...just hinderances. having elementalist as a secondary profession may even that out...but still. a LITTLE bit of melee might be helpful. even if it is a bit suicidal.
thanks!

is there a way to customise armor "pre searing" ? im scared to go sir tyson as all my gear is crap & only lvl8, is there like a checklist of things to do before you "sear" ?
Master Gunner
Axle- any class can use any weapon, they just won't be able to do as much damage with it since they won't have the attributes required for it (example: I'm a W/Me and have a bow that does 14-25dmg, but when I use it I can only deal about 2 or 3dmg because I don't have the marksmanship attribute I need to use it). I don't belive there are any weapons designed for memsters tho, but you can still use elementilist weapons like fire wands easily.
Stone:you can get better armor in post-searing, and only lvl 8? I was a level 5 when I went to post searing, so really you should have already left.
