Because their useful, and dont need to die?

As for using expert salvage vs. normal. I have my own rule of thumb:

If its an enemy armor, I'll expert salvage it hoping for leather sqaure or steel ingot IF it is 30+ AL. Thats the later half of the game armors. I found their rate for giving the rare materials is much better than say..that armor that the lvl6 charr drops (like 15AL). I just normal salvage those, or just sell to merchant.

And if its a random weapon - I only expert it if its in the top percentage of dmg. a 13-26 bow will usually give MUCH more wood than a 4-5 bow dropped in ascalon. Those low dmg weapons dont even deserve to be normal salvaged - they give like 2-3 of them materals- that doesn't even make up for the cost of that salvage kit use.

People dont like expert slavaging? do they not realzie that even if they only get 4-5 rare materials out of the 25 uses - They are still turning profit off the 400gp kit? Only thing I HATE getting thats rare is Silk - Silk sells for less than half of the normal materials..

How do you watch the pricing? Do you have to go visit each trader or are they all the same no mater who you go to?

All traders in each city have the same stock. A couple of months ago they used to differ from continent to continent, but Anet changed it so the traders were international. (As well as screwed up the prices, but let's not get into that...)

why is it that if someone makes a new post about something covered in a past post, that everyone jumps down there throat about "use the search button", YET when they do, and they "resurect" an old thread that pertains to whatever they have to post/say, then they get people complaining about that too? you people need to figure out what you want to complain about and stick too it.

Remember collectors armor, weapons and sheilds dont effect your play. And bones i think are the most common and expensive materials. So try to find a place were you can find those fast and sell em to a merchent

HoH= Hall of Heroes
Farming= going to the same area over and over killing mass amounts of monsters by yourself in order to get rare items to sell for money.

I've got mayb 300k but I'd have alot more If I'd stop spending it on crap. I deleted my mesmer and he had a fissure chest piece on him...... I don't do anything special. I farm griffons from time to time and I farmed tengu for a while and got 2 sup vigors and a sub absorption from them. But I hardly ever farm at all. If you already have money I'd invest mayb 20-30k in keys and go chest farming.

I have been playing through the game with my third character (a ranger) and i've got in to the habbit of just leaving stuff on the floor unless it's coloured or is a material, it's really bad.

One of my bags is full of bows collected by my warrior farmer and the belt pouch is full of glowing hearts, charcoal and random keys from farming.

My storage is completly full with materials (slots are taken not at 250 on each though)

I just seem to look at a low level weapon as being worth nothing, i guess i just need to get back in to the habbit of slavaging things again.

When griffon farming i find it's best not to slavage any weapons as they are nearly all worth 90g which is normally more than the materials i'd get from them would be worth.

I had 150k this morning then all these pretty ranger items kept turning up now i have 100k.

What I do is salvage wood, iron, and dust; every so often I'll have parchment crafted just outside of Sardelac Sanctum. Once I have 100 parchment, I'm off to Droks to sell it for about ~10k. After visiting the Sardelac artisan, I'll clear the map of elementals hoping for charcoal to drop. I usually net one, if not two, during the 5 minute clear run; I'll also clear the map outside of Serenity Temple for charcoal as well. Once I have 10 charcoal, it's off to Crafter Magnor, NW of Droks, to have Deldrimor Steel crafted. A quick map to Granite, Marhans, and Droks to sell the Deldrimor, if not, it goes to the merchant. 'Big money' is relative, but I find this the most profitable way to recycle. Everything else that's salvaged goes to the merchant, unless I buy new armor.

I've never had a stone elemental drop charcoal for me. I've only seen them drop off Fire Imps . . .

They do drop charcoal, right outside Serenity Temple is great for farming them (get some dyes too).

Of course, some people swear by UW farming- one person comes to mind who has 4,400,000 gold across four accounts and 388 ectoplasm. And four sets of complete FoW armor on each monk... They've farmed Underworld... ALOT.

UW and FoW farming can be VERY profitable, as can Ettins, or griffons, but as the OP said, materials is the best standby. And just watch your outflow carefully. Before every purchase, ask if you need, how much you need it, and when you need it. Really, salvage/id/expert salvage kits are all you need. 10/10 sundering adds about 0.4 damage on average, don't blow your money on "perfect" mods, or that pwnage looking weapon.

That said, I am now relative poor due to buying about a whole bunch of 15k armor. So much for vanity purchasing, eh?

Yes. The more NPC henchies you take into your party will decrease the drops assigned to you as the henchies will take some. If you want loads of drops from farming then you're better of going solo.

The fact that so many people want so much money begs the question... What do you need it for? There's really not much to buy... Well, technically there is but there's really nothing you NEED to buy beyond Drok's armour and possibly a weapon or two (but then again, drops are probably going to do you fine and if not, there's collectors). I've never had money troubles, and all I've ever done is merchant everything I got. Not just the [Merchant] though. That counts [Trader] type merchants (they are all merchants, after all). I've got 25k sitting in storage right now... And that's after buying a new sigil. I've never farmed with the intention of making money... Just done quests and such and sold the crap I got for it...

Read the first half of this thread then jumped to last page. Forgive me if I repeat anything already said.

To the OP .... very nice post and I do agree with all that you said. To the last poster. Once you've completed the game with four characters it's nice to be able to buy some vanity armor and have all the superior runes you need, and to help others in guild when they need things. I farm because a lot of times there is just nothing else to do. Currently have over 500K and I've been giving gold to guildies to help them out. Also, with a new second account those new character will never be in need of gold.

To those who may ask where I farm .... ettins. Check with rune trader and salvage pauldrons with high priced runes. Sell the others to merchant. Salvage, salvage, salvage. Sell crafting materials to trader or go to crafter and craft rare materials for more profit.

Just my point of view. Peace

i found one somewhat reliable way to solo farm with a ranger

have high beastmastery and a lvl 20 pet and simply farm sand drakes...they are usualy in small numbers so you wont get ganged up on and your pet takes most of the damage

Most money I've ever had is about 500K. But last week I decided to farm some griffons in Augury Rock and earned about 100K within a week, which is lame as most people sometimes earn that in about an hour o_O.

now I have like 15k on storage... I was at 150k last week lol but I buy a lot but a lot of stuff... A new green bow for my ranger/ some candy cane (160) Victo's blade cause it look sweet on my lvl 7 warrior >.< a full knight amror for my warrior

I get money form resell when I saw soemthing cheap or good I buy it and let it in storage and sell it by auction ^^

When I'm at 10k or 15k like today I run elona reach with my ranger or go chest run FoW with my 20 key set ^^ and hope for a perfect Chaos or fellblade ^^

or I farm with my 55 Necro or turn her into MM or SS for UW or SF

I also use my ranger as a trapper for UW

But my favorite way to get money is resell, sometime you get big deal or sometime you get poor (like this damn elswyth recurve bow at 45k >.<)

Safest way still running and farming

Some laughed and called me a noob. Meanwhile I bought all kinds of good stuff including 4 Victo's Maul. Then I resold the stuff in LA. I earned over 100K and have moved on to other pursuits, so I share this moneymaking scheme with you.

Farming where others don't has been my greatest advantage. I've found some spots nobody must be farmin cause gold and purple and blues are dropping like rain. I used to Griffon and Troll and Hydra farm, but, those got to be pitiful. It would seem it's like has been stated if you are farming where 1000's are farming your drop rates aren't very good for gold/purples, but, if you go where nobody AIN'T they are fantastic. I found a SHIELD farming area, couldn't believe all the shields I got out of that area and sold the good ones rather quickly (stance shields really sell well). Sometimes you just have to play the mechanics of the game or exploit noobies like I've been reading where some buy for 10k and then sell for 70k (maybe true could be false). One things for sure, if you are persistant you WILL aquire great sums of plat.

I could easily be wearing 15k armor on all my characters, but, to me vanity is a waste. I'm more interested in a variety of weapons and mods for them than I am how I look, so, I have lots of money in the bank and my weapon sets are growing very well.

If you want to get ahead, don't try to LOOK like the Jones's, only get what you NEED and bank the rest. And you DON'T NEED Fissure armor so quite acting like it's the end of the world if you don't have it yet. In the year 2007 if you play long enough and persistant you can probably own a "piece" of it. lol

Most people suck at haggling, you can lower a price up to 40% sometimes just by knowing how to barter. If you have to start, start really low, because, if they really want to sell it, they will be willing to go low, and if they dont want to sell it for a reasonable price, youre wasting your time. If they make the first offer, cut a significant amount off of it, and call it ridiculous, this is a great way to get people to sell things for less. Im no expert, but this seems to have worked well for me.

I am a w/monk currently i just kill evrything in gates of kryta. then go to next gate into north kryta and kill all the ettins. one i have done that i go back to gates of kryta kill them all again. Then in town sell everything i dont need ie weapons. and put all salvaged items in storage. please let me know if this is a good idea for farming kill two birds with one stone salvage farm and rune farm at same time

Tip about selling : Never add a price to your items, keep a certain price in your mind. Who knows, that guy might be buying your Rago's Rod for 85k when theres someone screaming out WTS Rago's Rod 45k, GURU PRICE!!

I think one of the most important things to keep in mind in this game is KNOW THE VALUE of THINGS. You can always find deals in towns and people selling things for cheap. Even if you are not shopping but just stopping in a town, you should always be aware of the stuff people are selling. Then you turn around and sell it for much more.

I make most of my money doingthis and running, doing missions for people.
