GUI for Skillsets!

I have got an idea about how to improve communication of skillsets.

Until now it is somewhat complicated to agree upon
Skills when building a party.
Many use the InGameChat, Gametalk or Messageboards and Forums
to do so, but it becomes quite difficult, as soon as you
have to deal with players of serveral different nations and languages.
Finding and arrange a suitable party for either PvP or PvE
are unnecessarily delayed by this.

The solution seems to be a Skillmenue in which each player can
view the skillsets of the other partymembers which updates
automatically when a skillset is changed.
This would ease the communication of skills enormously,
because each player can view the skills and their discription
in their mother tongue this way.
In addition, player who just started the game are able to get
examples by other players skillsets and it will ease the first
orientation in the game.

Sounds pretty need but how should the GUI look like you might say.
Well for this purpose i made a concept which should represent a
possible layout of the Skillset-GUI.

I hope this idea will be accepted and implemented into the game.

I had a similar idea. Thanks for the screenshot!

I was hoping for a little more reply to this in order
to advance this idea further.
Whatever you like to say, may it be an addition or kritik,
it will be welcome.

There might be a sligght problem, some people like to have their "secret build". Your idea will have people leeching other people's ideas, which ruins creativity. Like my Air E/Me is a little different than ur standard air spiker, and I;d liek to keep it that way. Also in a sB thread, someone said (if i can recall correctly) that sB had an uncounterable spike build; i'm sure they don;t want people to see that and copy it.

That is probably the only flaw that I can see in this. Anyways, that screenshot looks pretty cool.

In my opinion sooner or later all tacticsets are known by most of the players.
So it doesen't matter if you keep yours secret. Someone might have already
posted it somewhere on the message boards. So it becomes just some
individualism into skillbuilding and your favorite playingstyle.
It's a endless efford to try to be unique in your skillbuild.

But depending on further response to this fact you might like to discuss
the option to hide your skillset from the suggested GUI.
That way you can show your skillbuild but you are not forced to do so.

Great idea. It could really help in forming a group with complimentary skills.

In order to please both those that want to utilize it and those that wish to keep their skill bars a secret simply place a toggle in the options menu such as:

[ ] Allow party to view skill bar

Yup, just a simple toggle will do.

I think this is a great idea, at LEAST it stops typing out your skillset repeatedly as you try and find a PvP group.

That looks like a great idea. Prehaps it would be nice for there to be a way to view all of the skills they have available as well so it's not a matter of randomly guessing "okay do you have this? what about this?". Not sure how it would look but it would be a nice addition IMO.

Thanks for the response. I will rearrange the concept image
and insert your additions when i come home from work today.
So you can view version two of the concept in the evening.

The additions will be:

A toggle button --> [ ] Allow party to view skill bar

A viewport for skillsuggetions, where you can show
skillbuilds to people without the need to have the
skills in your character.

But if there are any more additions to this suggestion please
post them so it can help refining the final thing.

I really like that idea too. Either too much time is spent discussing skills before the start to coordinate skills, or no time at all which results in a not-so-good team. As far as showing people's secrets, there's a lot more than just the skills selected. There's the attribute point distribution as well as the order that you use skills. Also, you can't tell how good a skill set is until you use it yourself. So even if someone thinks they have the most awesome skill set, it's only gonna look like any of the other hundreds of skill sets people have seen from any prior groups, until someone tries it and realizes how good/bad it is. 2 other additions I would like to see:

1) energy bars displayed on allies and foes
2) way to 'save' skills sets + attribute distribution + maybe even secondary prof.

Very nice work Zraak. I was thinking the same thing, and was going to post a much uglier version of the UI, but my Photoshop skills and general laziness held me back. Good to see someone putting out effort and submitting good ideas.

Would also be good to incorporate this in the party creation process so you could see information about the people that join your party. So if you are asking someone to join your party, they have the option to see the skills your party is using, or if you ask to join a party, that party leader sees the skills you are using.

Other useful info:
Health
Energy
Guild Tag

Also be nice to have a portrait of the player next to their skill bar.
Can throw in a Text field as well so people can write up generals goals of what the group is planning to do and maybe info on logging on to their TS or Vent Server.

Also how bout a party forming NPC. You talk to the NPC in the area and he lists all the parties currently together. You can then pull up information on each party and decide who you want to join up with. Might end some of the Party spam over chat.

Ok here it is.

http://www.paraknowya.info/hosted/zr...cept_ver02.jpg

The menue is now splitted into two tags. The first tag has now a
toggle button to allow or deny viewing the skillbar to the party
and the second tag is for suggestions.

In the second tag on the left side, you see all suggestions of your
party and on the right side a skill library.

The discriptions under the library of the skills should then show in the
green numbers the value that is influenced by your actual skilllevel.
If the displayed skill is not of your prime or second class it should show
the default range in the green numbers (like [1-18] ).
The popup discription in the left part should show in the green numbers
the skill owners value.
There is also a toggle button here so a partymember can override
your suggesion.

I first thought of an apply button to copy the suggestion into the skillbar
but it might be problematic if the suggestion has skills you don't own
with your Character or are not of your class.

Is that supposed to be the new version? Cause I think you reposted the first one. Otherwise, I like the idea.

Well, I like that. The only problem that I see coming from this (Not directly though) is the jerks in this game, if you try to suggest something, they'll get all mad and whatnot, and it might break teams if that jerk is the leader. But, the concept is great.

Well there will always be jerks around, but for those who are into playing
the game in a proper manner it can be a great tool i think.
And besides: You don't have to open that window when jerks are around.

Just remebmer this

absolutly like the idea, with the "allow other party member to view your build" of course.
