Preparing for Factions
MSecorsky
For those going to buy and merge accounts only please... what are you doing to set up yourself for Factions? For example...
Sold all ectos and shards to merchant for gold, continue to do so after every run that produces them. Stockpiled 250 vials of ink for armors, 65 glass vials just in case.
I know people are starting to think ahead. Share the love! How are you preparing?

Yeah I know a bunch of people who have serious dough saved up, too bad they didnt implement a different sort of base currency to make everyone start from scratch...because the rich are going to just splurge on thier new characters.

Sold everything that I didn't need, including my favourite 14^50 req. 8 Storm Bow. Other than that, just a few crafting materials here and there, maybe a stack or so of some common materials. I don't plan on picking up many new armour sets for my current characters. Maybe I'll just refuse to touch the money in storage and start from scratch on my ritualist...
...and I'm looking into buying a 7900GT. Factions is going to be murder on my current card.

I am just starting to stockpile things now,
Lord Necromonger
Well, It's kind of funny to see this post. Seeing that after the first Pre event I saw a few things that made me want to start preping for the factions release. I had already ran my 3 main charcters thru everything under the sun along with capping out my primary skills. After that I had caught the tail end of the mass parchment selling before everyone and their brother started selling it. During the second event I hopped straight over to the Armorer and Material traders to see what was going to be hot. I too have noticed the ink being needed for Armor and made 100 vials of ink. During that on the first day I saw that back in the original GW that Amber chunks and Jade Shards were being sold by the vendor so I bought them up ( total of 47 ) Sold them for 230k. (only know of 3 others that were buying them at the time and one was a chinese guy , go figure ) So after that an Ettin Rune farming for my needs I have a grand total of 1,067,891 gp ready for Factions not to mention all of the crafting materials, which is to long of a list to type out. So, That is what I have done to prepare for Factions.
Jas D
I'm not saving for anything, really. If I need something, I'll buy it then and there and not waste materials. Or I'll farm whatever I need.

The 6600GT I have is a piece of junk. Random BSODs (nv4_disp.dll), random lockups (driver issue, again, caused by) overheating with the stock HSF, new HSF doesn't fit exactly (I had to take a knife to the plastic on the NV Silencer), underpowered ("laggy" at my resolution, entire map turns glowy-white).
Yeaaahhhh.
Er. Did I mention farming? Lots of casual farming.

Since I don't know exactly what is required for anything, i'm not doing anything to prepare. Learned my lesson in other when when I start preparing early, it usually ends up time wasted.
Mavrik
I have a small amount of money saved up... about 20k... little materials but quite a few dye.
Rask Finn
I got rid of all my gold. It wasn't much [150k] but still...
I want to play Factions fresh, and struggle to earn my new armor like I did in Guild War's release. Buying the best stuff immediately just seems like a way of robbing myself of the fun. But thats just my opinion.

Is it Ritualist Armor that takes Ink? Anyway the main thing I'm trying to stockpile is straight gold. I'm gonna need a lot of it since most of the new skills will have to be bought instead of rewarded from quests.
dansamy
I have a goal of having 500k in gold and an "arseload" of materials. Since I haven't decided what constitutes an "arseload", I don't think I am there just yet. A nice dwarf or something in SF was kind enough to give me a sup vigor for my new Ritualist. I thanked him by slaughtering the rest of his friend's before they could res him.
Nevin
I saved up 500,000 gold. I'm just PvPing now, gunna have 10,000 faction to unlock a few elites when Factions is released. Otherwise, I do not plan on tapping into the 500,000 gold until my character reaches a point at which he will buy 15k armor. I wanna play it the fun way, not the rushed way.
Cygnus_Zero
Well even with money, you still need to get to the areas that have the armor. So you still have to work a little for it.

The only plans I have besides carrying my monk over to Cantha is starting an Assassin (since I have no offensive characters at the moment)
I've been stocking up on Hide (yeah, basic but used for a great number of armor types)
I also farmed up a 100k for the release and bought one of each of the Sup Monk Runes as a small investment before the game comes out. I've already made about a 2k profit for each in the short time I have been holding them.
Lastly, I farmed some Manifestoes in SF and traded them for a few rare scrolls. (five 2x exp and two 3x exp)
It would be a real pisser if they set up factions much like the did Chap 1 in regards to storage access with the whole Pre-sear concept.

I havn't done anything o.o
I'm just going to make my Mesmer and then gather my resources for my armor. Of course, there's always the 200k in my stash that I have the option to use. Wish I kept some of my materials though.
Perhaps I should sell all my Globs of Ectoplasm?

Like others, I've saved up some money and will continue to save up some money, mainly for skill unlocking and small stuff like Salvaging Kits and that sort of things (have about 110k, not a lot, aiming for something around 200k or so).
I wanna play Factions with the idea of starting all over agian, just as with Prophecies, like many others appearantly, and I'm glad those thoughts are still around (instead of the rushing/powerlevelling).
Sure, I have myself runned from one place to another now and skip a few parts, but that's because I've seen it all (most others who let themselves run by now probably have). But when it comes to a new game (or chapter for that matter), I just gotta see it all again . Perhaps with my 2nd or 3rd character, I might have him run or give him some treats from my first Factions character

Unlucky Slayer
Gathered cash and materials for the new character(s) I plan on making. Thats about it til my network decided to be mean and not work for me the past couple days. Cant wait for factions though...
yangster
I'm trying to get all the skills for pvp so I could be ready in Factions. Also trying to get as much gold as I can for pve.
Greedy Gus
Saved up 10k faction and 50k gold
LordDeArnise
Stockpiling materials for what I think Assassins and Ritualists will need for their armor. As for the 6th slot...either another ranger, or a MM necro.
The same goes for gold, although I'm more of a middle class type.

Farming gold up the wazoo. Going to make an Assassin (already have half of it unlocked ftw) and a ranger on cantha side, so that means probably cloth, tanned hide, scales. I'm fine.
Back to farming charr carvings for the next holiday event ^^.

In addition, I'll probably sell the greens my charries are not using; that and the lone ecto sitting in my storage.

I'm not too worried about mats. Everything drops the goods, so there's really no reason to have a shortage. Be a salvage freak like me.
I forgot, the last time I made a ranger I used drakescale armor because I thought it looked awesome, and the fire resistance was godly in the fire islands. Druids = win.

nice is an understatement.
my Leadtek 6600GT has done wonders for me for a year now with never a single heat/visual problem.
EDIT PREPARING
i have 2 good books to read on the way

For people who played factions, what did the warrior armor require? The usual iron/steel and granite slabs/shells?
