Will Factions keep people playing as long as Prophecies did?
Gmr Leon
Alot of people have already beat Factions so will it be played as long as Prophecies was played? I mean I'm thinking I won't get Factions because it won't keep me playing the entire summer. I may have tons of other games to play, but I like to focus on one at a time. Anyway,if it doesn't keep people playing as long what does that mean for the next chapter?
Also, how many people will get bored of farming faction to control a town for some fireworks and a discount? If you ask me they should have made Factions either more challenging or a bit longer. Heck,I've had Prophecies since December and just a few weeks ago beat the last mission, but now we're hearing about people beating Factions in a few days.
I dunno, but with either the lack of challenge or the fact that the game is short I may not buy Factions...

It doesn't have to. Prophecies kept people playing for quite a while - but Factions was released a year later. Chapter 3 is being released in around 6 months. They only need to keep peoples attention for around 6 months with each expansion, just enough to keep the game in their mind when the next 6 monthly chapter is released.
Gmr Leon
True, forgot about the 6 month thing. Though I'm still finding it quite annoying about the price of Factions, but really what new game isn't the same price is either a really bad game or a good game that wanted alot of sales.
lg5000
I dunno, from pre searing to ascention takes about a weekend, possibly two weekends if it's with quests. Factions has taken more than two weekends just to do missions and most quests, and that's not elite missions yet either.
Loralai
The hook for alot of people is the introduction of "titles." It will take a very long time to acquire most of them individually, and unless you have already achieved a large percentage of them on your Tyrian characters beforehand, it will take all of 6 months and then some to finish. There will be many people that are spending time capping, playing drunk (or standing in outposts drunk in some cases), farming faction, what have you, just to achieve the titles.
demon dantes
even with the 6 mnth thing i have alrdy beat the game 6 times and i am right now just doing the elite mission but that even gets boring after a while. with tyria there were so many places to go and farm and took a lot longer to beat if u were not run anywere. ppl will play for the whole 6 mnths just to try and make money but factions is already boring.

And factions has kept me interested until 2 days ago where I got really bored of it. Finished Kurz side of the campaign, done The Deep, quests aren't very fun to me. So I'm guessing I've played like 30 hours in factions, compare that to the 1,200 I have from prophecies. I don't think people will play it as much, unless they PvP and are still interested in that, or just enjoy the new style of Factions. Also, people who haven't played the Tyrian campaign would probably stay playing longer.
TB_
Factions lacks any end game content, so in the end people will dump factions and be playing Chapter 1s content as AN didnt bother making any for factions.
Arkantos
In prophecies, there were 25 missions, and it took time to lvl and get around. there were like 6 areas in tyria. You could solo almost anything. PvP wise, there was nothing. Its either your doing RA/TA, HA or GvG. Now in cantha, you can get to lvl 20 in less then 2 hrs, and theres only 13 missions, 4 areas. You only have to access 3 of these areas, and with your tyrian char 2. Soloing has become much harder, but still possible. Now for PvP, theres 12v12, which is basically the only addition to PvP. I beat factions in less then 12 hours. I beat prophecies in about 3-4 days. Overall, Tyria kept us busy for a year, So Cantha should be able to last us 6 months.

ok the hardcore players have said their thing now
(i know i'm semi hardcore from time to time and beat factions the first weekend)
But i know lot's of people that only can play 2-4hours per week, that is probably less then some of you play per day So for the normal casual player that doesn't have so much time for games, the game will last. But for people that likes to play +2h per day, it won't last more then a couple of weeks or maybe a month or two.
Just my point of view!

Actually we didn't do that much in terms of missions-quests. Have a good laugh though

It took me about 6 months to get bored with prophecies and about 6 days to get bored/ pissed off with factions. 50 bucks is a crime to charge for this game i want 30 of it back unless you give the full 4 slots for combining and give everyone the chance to play elite missions. but since when have they listened to the fans. and by fans i don’t mean the whiny guru forum trolls who flame everyone for not thinking like them. if you dont know what i mean just read any thread and they are the ones telling you to use the search feature that NEVER works.
The Asian theme of factions was cute at first but once you leave the island, you are put in a world only about as big as ascalon and have to navigate through pointless mazes with your 60%dp henches, having to fight one enemy at a time before rezing over again. the quests lacks any imagination,(Go to point a, then point b, get reward). but to answer your question, factions has no replay value and i guess ill go back to proph and the game i used to love, before the many needless nerfs. Maybe i should make an elona bot since apparently anet doesn’t care one it about them. rock on anet!! heres to being total hypocrites!

I don't think it will, as a new Guild Wars player you couldn't learn the whole game in a week (well, I won't doubt some did) and because of that it took a long time to carry you character through the game. In Factions, most of the people know how the game works and they will speed through it in no time.

Will Factions keep people playing as long as Prophecies did?No chance of it. Several people I know have quit or are on the verge of quitting. Contentwise, Factions is only half the size of Prophecies, and as far as gameplay goes there have been no improvements, and even a possible deterioration given the massive increase in server lag and random err7s.
I am disappointed that Anet has spent several months implementing an elaborate caste system, but seems unable or unwilling to implement even a rudimentary market/auction system or a slightly less irritating partying system. There comes a point when one gets simply tired of the same nonsense.

I started gwp in August of last year (sorry was out of the country until then)....I started one character and about 1 month later started 2 more, and a few more days a final one....by xmas I had gotten the first one thru the 25 missions and had the titan quests started....by valentines day I had them all thru the missions....and by tax day I had them all thru the titan quests as well (have NOT finished final assault with any of them as of yet).....so it took me some time to finish the game, and I had not gotten bored of the fissure or underworld, but had had enough of sorrow furnace.
its only been about 10 days since my CE finally got here and, well I dont see myself finishing it before the next chapter comes out......for a few reasons:
1 its too repetitive.
2 my computer cant handle the amount of graphics in the slums and
3 gwp was just more fun and I am almost done with 2 of my titles
SO until I get a better graphics card (which requires a real computer--not a laptop), it will be slow going for me....but thats ok, I dont need to run thru/beat the game as fast as fast can be, that just aint fun for me!
So I guess I will be 'playing' with factions for at least as long as prophecies, but it wont be all at one time----any time soon.

I don't have much time on my hands to play games, so normally I spend about 1~2 hours MAX to play GW.
Sometimes I farm, sometimes I play PvE missions and sometimes I PvP. With the combination of the 3, I usually don't advance far with my PvE characters through their missions.
So I can still see myself playing GW:Faction when Chapter 3 comes out.
I really feel those people who are getting bored, have really spent a lot of time playing the game all at once and not taking it slowly (I know you aren't restricted like I am).. but really, playing it slowly works wonders.

Haha some of these threads are just another way to vent about problems so it seems, but no... factions wont keep people intrested as long, it is not meant to. because ANET are creating a world for you, with the release of constant titles.
SURE they say its stand alone and technically it is, but lets face it if you love guild wars you want to be able to do everything. so you WILL buy them all.
its marketed as a stand alone game, but its a part of a world and should be tought of like that in my oppinion,
i DO think cantha will not have any where NEAR as much re-play value as tyria did. it just wont.
but then again its not meant to.
i have been disapointed and extatic about certain parts of factions, but the point is no matter what has happened i have kept playing constantly.
me being a "hardcore GW'er" i expect i will keep playing as i have BUCKET loads of aims for all 6 of my characters.
But at the end of the day its up to you and how you play the game.

The PvP will keep me playing as long as ever. The PvE does not matter to me in any way, except for enjoying the campaign the first time through, and the lovely 15k Kurzick armor.

I love Factions & I don't even pvp... For me, this game will easily keep me interested unitl chapter 3.

The irony is even though I have not completed factions with all my characters, I spent the bulk of this evening in THK trying to find a pug to do the bonus..

Ive had factions a week and Im bored. I find myself alternating between different games to keep my interest up. The days of playing GW for 6-8 hours are very much over.
Laibeus Lord
Well I am still enjoying GW:Factions.
I enjoyed GW:Prophecies for 6 months.
After they released the sub-expansion (if you will) "Sorrow's Furnace" I stopped playing
That's a whole 6 months w/o playing GW.
Then came back coz of GW:F and till now I am enjoying it.
"Beating the game" is not about the SL. Yes you've beaten the "SL" but that's not the game itself. There is far more depth in the game than what SL has to offer.
I finished the SL in less than 54 hours and Im still playing it.
SF is a sub-content addition, so that's fine. I think with every stand-alone expansion, it will keep, at least me, playing for the whole 6 months before the next campaign is out.

It all depends on how much joy people get out of completing "goals" as opposed to seeing new content. If you like new content, you will be finished with factions in about a week or two. But if you go for goals, there is tons to do:
*You not only have 1/2 new characters to do the factions quests with, but your old 3/4 prophecies characters as well.
*After that, your chantan characters can go and do the prophecies storyline
*You need to capture quite a few new elites for all characters
*Unless you have done so, there are bonus objectives to complete on your old tyrian characters and maps to clear.
Even if you are the most hardcore player of all, the time it will take to get 5 characters through both storylines, clearing 5 times the whole map, getting 5 times all bonus objectives, getting all elites should at least be several months.
And once you finish that, there are the PvP titles to worry about. So in terms of stuff to achieve, there is more then 6 month worth. The huge problem: It is repetitive as hell, so most will get bored very soon.

Laibeus Lord
true repetitiveness, but for some reason I dont feel the repetitiveness after bringing my Cantha characters to Tyria. Now even my AScalon characters are in Tyria finishing what else I left there.
For some magical reason, Tyria became a whole new content as well I'm sure ANet bet on that, 'with each new campaign, it will make the older campaigns appear as new', which as I've said, happened to me.
I am seeing Tyria, or GW:P for that matter in a whole new light, in a whole new perspective. THe boredom of repetition in Tyria alone is gone coz of GW:Factions.
Heck, Im not even bored with GW:F yet there's more to do!!!!

I'm done with Factions. The rant about the elite missions and all put me off.

As far as I can judge by now, Factions has well enough content to keep me interested until campaign three (Nightfall?) comes out. Infact I'm afraight I'll still be so busy with Factions (and Prophecies, too) that I may not see the need to buy a new campaign already.

I enjoyed Tyria (have 3 accs), but Factions is a big disappointment to me.

Can't believe i quit world of warcarft for this? I really enjoyed the first guild wars when I got the game around New Year's, quit WOW because it was so good. Got excited when Factions came, after 2 weeks I haven't touched the game and since went back toWOW and rolled a new priest. Why?, nothing new, and way too short. The thing that got me really ticked was that Factions no sooner comes out and they start talking about the next chapter. Maybe they should worry more about adding content to the chapter just released. Sorry but I'm not paying 50 bucks for a weekend worth of content.

Total of 10 months on my account, much of it idle or falling asleep at the laptop. As for Chapter 1 played it ever since Factions, indeed Factions' PVE is frustating and tiresome but it's worth it with my new monk.

As for Factions keeping me busy for six months, I'd have to say no. Once my Canthan characters have completed the storyline and optional quests, and it doesn't take very long to do that, they'll go to Tyria. My Tyrian characters will eventually go over to Cantha, but not until they've got the titles they're interested in over in Tyria. Chapter 3 could be out by then.

I've played GW since its retail release, four chars leveled up there. Got Factions last weekend, and as a casual player, game tourist really, mostly PvE, I'll say this -- as your typical bonehead, non-competitive, "just wanna have fun" player.
I was wildly enthusiastic about Factions until I got to the city. I found the city depressing, repetitious, just a pain really. Factions began to feel more like work. Think I was level 17 when I hit the city, and the morbid dark atmosphere upset me off so bad I went over to Tyria to level on out to 20; even though it took a bit longer over there, it was at least fun and not depressing.
Sadly, I know two people who have given up on Factions simply because they cannot stand the city. Yeah, I'll finish the game, but my next new char is going to be in Tyria. Once through the city is enough for me.

i cant really remember when i got factions i think may/june 2005 or something. Got bored after 3 months cuz i completed it whit 3 or 4 professions cant remember.
Then started in the PvP scene after 2 months, but pvP was a new world to me which interested me very much and kept me interested in the game. But i did do PvE in the meantime i couldn't get a group and finished the game whit all professions then i've quit GW for a month and everything was more or the less new to me. I started farming further in PvP (only i reeally quit on Tombs/HA cuz like everyone became big asses cuz of iway).
Im going to do the same whit factinos but i think the first PvE part will be a lot less cuz its a lot easier (to me) to finish the game for the first time.
But the main reason for this is because ive already played prophecies i know how GW works i know what to take in account to make a good PvE build or whatever.
By reading here i notice people are tending to forget that. So lets say it took you 2 months in prophecies to find out how the game worked out well and make everything easy for you and bla bla bla. You can pull that time of from factions now.
