In Game Wedding + New Emote
Ayla Beastmaster
Hi,
We are planning an ingame wedding.
The wedding is going to happen in our Guild Hall next month.
We want it to be perfect.
We are going to write our vows, the text for the priest.
And there will be a band (drum, guitar, violin, flute and some dancers)
We have one request, we would like to have a new emote.
/kiss
Because we have to kiss each other, you know, after the vows.
Is this possible????
Plz plz plz

Do you ever leave your house?
Honestly, (no JR I am not flaming) you need to get less obsessed with a game. I'm glad that you have let the world become somewhat of a reality, I like to do tha too, but planning a wedding for people who dont exist...

Geez, what's the problem with people playing an RPG and freaking out on anything that is... RP? You know, by being a gamer you're a freak to quite a lot of people as well. So basically you're in no place to throw stones at someone else.
Doing RP is in no way more freaky than clicking your left mouse button to kill enemies.

just because no one wants to marry you ingame doesnt mean you have to try to make others feel bad about it ^^
i say let em marry, even though i dont even understand those who marry ingame ( so uncertain about their love that they need an official document for it ? )
have fun you two :P

I must say since my sister and I created our own guild, and btw we are 21+ guild , the addiction increased. héhé
We have very good members, real friends and we do everything together.
Playing for houres, chatting, having fun,...
The wedding is just what we want, me and Jondalar.
btw i'm a girl and he's a man so.
Everything i need from the GW team, is a new emote /kiss.
So plz let me have it.
and /hugg is also nice

well, your point ?
is it so hard to let them marry ? will you be personally insulted or in any way kept of doing a special thing ? does them getting married restrict your personal freedom ?
what they try to do is do some RP ( RolePlaying ), what makes the game much more fun than without ..
and only because WoW had the marry feature first, does this mean gw must never have it ? cause WoW is in your eyes bad and by that everything it contains ?
still gl with your marriage proposal :P

so? they want to have an important thing for them, so let them have it.
i remember reading that there was a wedding on the beggining of Guildwars, but i dont remember well.
also, for those who are saying no in less that polite manners:
Guild Wars can and is played by couples too, in my guild there is a couple that is married in Real life, they play together.
i dont know if they will implement the kiss emote before the wedding, but hey why still not do it? maybe the wedding is assisted by one of the scribes and the next scribe week the wedding appears on it
go get him tiger

Hi, stop flaming the OP because he/she wants his character married in game to another character. Some people play GW as a ROLE PLAYING GAME, in which they assume the role of a make believe person.Believe it or not, some people do not like to pvp, farm faction and farm all day long. I even believe there is a open petition to arena net to better support the role playing activities of these players.
In any case, even if the OP isn't treating it as a role playing opportunity and it's genuine like of the characters player, it is not your place, people, to come down on him for doing so.
To the OP: Congrats on the wedding and sorry for the way people react to such things.

A mesmer and a ranger can't get married! That would defy all class levels. Mesmers are supposed to be arrogant and would hardly consider a ranger a suitable husband. Or maybe I've gone too far on the RP track. I guess if you both want to get married it's ok. Only thing you might need is some dwarven ale (For the drunken party, afterwards) and flowers. Oh and a guild scrimmage after would work-to simulate bar fights.

ah well, i think there is a small sort of 'chapel' in majestys rest ( even though you want to marry in your guild hall, just for the sake of having it mentioned ).
not even too many spawns there ( the briding couple slashing their way to the chapel to get married :P )
but it could also be a small tomb, no idea ^^

I think Vahn Roi is saying that it isn't like in WoW where you can get married officially. Oooh! I just thought of a really good symbol of your marriage. If you switched minipets! Man that would be something. What a symbol. I think I just overwhelmed myself!
Phenixfire
lol, nice idea, you could even have a siege turtle fire some rice or flowers :P

Eh. I think I will have to agree with Vahn Roi on this one. I mean, its cute and all. But pointless and a little game obsessive. I play GW with my boyfriend, but we aren't gonna get married on there. xD
But, eh, whatever floats your boat. Good luck. :\

so why does one still farm? because its fun and you want to achieve smth ( fow armor, nice weapon, whatever ).
and if they think it is fun getting married ingame, it is in a certain way as pointless as farming. your rl doesnt profit from it, but it makes the marriage couple happy.
farming and buying a new thing makes some happy, marrying makes others happy. it's the same :P
Tarun
Perfectly fine idea and even Gaile said they're going to add in-game weddings in the future.

What a brilliant point.
Does anyone who wants to come have to come Black Tie? I don't really know what I would wear as black tie. Black dye and smart new armour does cost a bit though.

You said, "this isn't WoW." In response, I said "your point?", by which I meant, "how exactly does minor content in one game affect the existence or even the possibility of existence of similar content of another?" Perhaps you inferred some other intent to it - two lone words can be ambiguous - but I only wanted to know what WoW had to do with implementing an additional emote or two in Guild Wars, which, in and of itself, I couldn't care less about.

I don't really see any harm in this idea. I'm pretty sure real couples who play online games together would like a /kiss emote. Although, I would like it to be implemented so that the other end can have a choice to reject the kiss.
So to activate the kiss, it'd have to be like this:
Player X: /kiss player y
Player Y: /kiss player x
If there were no restrictions, you'd have idiots spamming /kiss everywhere. This should be a chat-filtered out emote like /sit so we would not have to witness people making out in the chat channels.
Edit: Uh... as for ingame weddings. No comment. Hahaha.

I could see the debates on the news now, "Marriage is between a man and a woman not a vidya game character! This is a mockery of the institution of marriage!" lol

A wedding in GW has happned before, what is wrong in expressing love within a game? If they love each other let them go their own way on expressing. Las Vegas weddings are weird so why not in a game, theres elvis, starwars, etc.
/kiss
/hug
So many flamers, if you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all. Your input isn't needed when putting someone else down. Immaturity not needed to be added.

There should be more RP content anyhow, instead of the standard
1. kill these mobs and see the next video clip roll by
2. join an alliance, flame the opposition.
3. I am the uber monster player bwaahaha and you all are my minions
I too sometimes use the game more like a chat program (remember mIRC?) sit down and just chat with people from all over, sync-dance, play rock-paper-scissors, whatever. As for the RL couples playing together, I definitely see how they'd want a kiss/hug/slap emote
Keep the RP alive peeps, and have fun!

And yes, a wedding has indeed happened before, in the ANet staff, I believe. Anet threw a history-making weding w/ custom capes, ring-esque gifts, and all kinds of goodies, though I forget exacly who from the Anet staff got married.
Now, on that point, they did this ingame because GW represented a large part of their life - they developed it together, worked through blood and sweat to perfect it, and they wanted to celabrate not only their success in creating the game, but their love for each other.
Now that I got all that mushy, "It's so cute," crap out of the way, I wish you luck, though... I gotta ask: do you physically know this person, as in Real Life (tm)? Curious
That's all - give em' a kiss emote!

I find this kind of silly, a kiss emote might not be bad, it would be abused, but so what.
I would like to see alot more community development, supporting "wedding" functions is way toward the end of the list for me, the community could improve with more social and Roleplaying elements long before they get into things like that.
I have my personal dislikes of RolePlaying Weddings, but it isn't a bad idea to add a kiss emote, although that is really a dual action and may not work very well.

WoW has a wedding feature? Shocking and... "uh?" really just don't cover my reaction. I guess they have to keep adding stuff to justify the pay-per-month thing.
Why stop with weddings? Let's add resturants, hotels, dry cleaners! I mean, since we're recreating that "real life" thing we stopped paying attention to into a Dungeon Crawl video game...
Pet Peeve of mine... I play Role-Playing Games, you know? The Pen and Paper type things (White Wolf Games for example), where you create a character and engage in not only physical situations, but mental and social ones too. One thing I hate, is when people want to play Hack&Slash characters, and engage in Dungeon Crawl (killing everything, "winning" by killing, gathering loot, concentrating on only combat.)
Another, is when I play Dungeon Crawl games, like Guild Wars (and as much as they call it an MMORPG, or a CORPG, or what not, it is to the definition of the word, a Dungeon Crawl game) and people want to treat it as a Role-Playing (Table Top-styled) Game.
At what point do you want them to impliment a "Wedding Move" in Chess so the King and Queen can get married?
Play the game for what it is. Please.
Role-Play on RP sites. Play Dungeon Crawl on DC sites.
Is it really that hard?

I'm not gonna read through all the posts, so disregard if it's been mentioned but, if you implement a /kiss emote, it might lead to some annoying people coming up to you and doing that emote. I'm already bothered by warriors with their pelvic thrusts while standing right next to me and following me. I know, its just pixels, but I'd rather not know what the person on the other side of the screen is thinking when they do that.

(I'm sure that would be similiar to how it would be implemented).
But, anywho, I don't understand why you people care. If they want to get married, let 'em. Its their prerogative. And it would be nice to see some more RP elements in the game. And other RPGs out there have in-game weddings. WoW, FFXI, and others. No one in those games has a fit because some one wants to get married, so just get over it. If they wanna RP, then as long as it doesn't effect you, why do you care. In FFXI, people have gotten married in-game, then got married in RL.
