Hardly. Like myself, most of my friends are housewives, many of them with kids older than the average GW player (or, at least, older than the average GW player acts). Unlike myself most of them have never been big into games, at least nothing much beyond Tetris and the Popcap or flash game of the week. It's hard enough convincing them that playing an MMORPG (CORPG, whatever) is fun and they should give it a try, when they see the behavior that is so commonplace it becomes difficult to convince them to ever let their kids play a video game again, let alone that they should play.

There is nothing sad about finding rude, boorish, and immature behavior unacceptable. There is nothing sad about not wanting to patronize environs where such behavior is the norm.

Its part of any game(well most), and you're just going to have to live with it.
Sadly it is part of many games, that we gamers find it acceptable, even defend it, is not to our credit. Just because it's part of so many games does not mean that it has to be, that we have to 'live with it' (ie tolerate it), or that it can't change.

Quote:
I also highly doubt Anet will lose any players over this, the people will just come on this site and complain about it until Anet fixes it.
Don't be silly, of course they will. The people who would quit over unacceptable behavior are not the sorts who even know this site exists, let alone would bother coming here to complain... Or coming here at all.

First of all I would like to point out that Guild Wars is an online game in wich you interact with other people, whose actions may not be fully controlled by ArenaNet. I would also like to point out that you were warned by the ESRB, who gave this game a rating of:

Quote:
TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
Second, I'm sorry, but you are a minority to the video game industry. A very extreme minority. And not at all the target audience of most video games (generally, male 15-30ish). And in today's sex-driven society the in-game acts of which you speak are no worse than what's in the magazines or on TV every day. Have you seen cartoons lately? Even Nickelodeon's shows are ridden with subtle leud jokes and adult themes. Children don't even pick up on them. Go back and watch some Disney movies. Cuz everyone knows those are clean and wholesome. And I'm getting off topic. You are an adult. So, can't you act like one, and turn the other cheek, or just ignore childish behavior? By getting flustered and complaining, or quitting, you are giving those people exactly what they want. Good job. Enjoy your tantrum while I'm having fun playing.

And yet here you are, complaining.

*Edit: Oh yeah, and if emotes, or what people may say bothers you that bad, you can always turn off that particular chat channel, or put them on your ignore list

Wow, really? I had no idea!

Oh my god, you're kidding? And here I thought I was in the majority, why doesn't anyone ever tell me these things?!?

Oh god, you're right! Stating my opinion on the idea of a /kiss emote is so totally like what I said.

Or... NOT.

Why are you flamebaiting for no real reason?
Your posts show no other content but to start a downright flamewar and i don't really see why. Look, i'm female myself and i'm playing the game so according to your post i'm affected as well by these things but to be honest, i don't really care about things like these.
And amongst the other female players i know in Guildwars, no one seems to care either. If some random warrior tries to /dance my character, the grown up people just have a good laugh, maybe mock the person a bit and simply move on.

And if you're so offended by sexual content in the game, why didn't you quit when the Ascended Druid Armor was introduced? And why are you still here after the "Look ma! I can't walk anymore but i've got omg boobies!!! LOL!" (aka the ritualist) entered the game?
But i dare to throw a known fact into the discussion. The ones mostly complaining about potential sexual content in the game are mostly males. And that also includes the few weird sickos acting like females. And no kind of big deal (+1 shameless ripoff) i've met quite a few of those, trying to circumvent teamspeak with their little voicetools. And it is THESE people that allways get extremely agressive if something remotely sexual appears in the game. Why? I don't know, maybe because the society still wants to show faith in the "womans don't like sex" image which is so dead wrong since several decades ago.

Please, don't squabble.

Hm.... *ponders*.... I can somewhat subscribe to what Myria is saying.
Offensive jerks sometimes make me want to turn off my computer too. I don't know if I'd quit the game for good over it, but they sure do spoil the whole gaming experience for me. I think Myria has a valid point. And I would hate to see decent people leave the game this way.

Even if the kiss would require consent, the whole thing could be annoying as hell. Think Internet Explorer and pop-ups. I guess more freedom (i.e. more emotes) would have to run parallel with more restrictions, meaning a better system of weeding out the jerks. Sounds... unfeasible. Anet would drown in the sheer numbers of reports. Perhaps an added option to turn off the 'kiss feature'?

On the other hand... it only takes one nice person to make my day and there are still enough around. Teenagers trying to kiss my mesmer wouldn't stand a chance (neither in getting the kiss nor in getting me to quit). Besides, people extremely turned off by idiots have so much reason to leave as it is that they probably already have (every mass game since they're all "polluted" in this way). Not a good thing, since it's hard to outnumber the jerks if people keep quitting. C'mon, don't let it upset you so.

We are getting a little off topic here.

Childish and stupid behavior, should we tolerate it. No. But barring some sort of in game Mods, there isn't musch you can do except spend as little time is an outpost as possible. I also find that the higher the number (or is it lower on the drop box) the less of an idiot population. I do build work or a long term afk I go in GH, or the safe zone outside of the city/outpost.

What if the devs created wedding halls, and the special emotes only worked there?

I don't mean this to sound offensive at all, because I think its kinda cute getting married in the game and all. Great imagination.

However its a waste of development time, and has nothing to do w/ the direction of guild wars.

Many other things deserve the development time. Just my opinion.

This is a game for both very young players and adults. Realize that for some people real life and ingame life can get very mixed up. Its not a good idea to introduce all kinds of grown up emotions and lifestyles into a game sold to 12 years olds.

LoL.

This is getting absurd.
I can understand some of the points from those who are opposed to the idea.

But really, its getting absurd.
Some of the comments are just plain sad, and not even properly argumented.

Stop making such a drama out of this.
Even we don't take it that seriously,
And we can only ask.

Oh and this was the winner by far:
Quote:
Who can say, sexual predator?
This seriously hasn't even got anything to do with the kiss or hug emote.
We really had a good laugh with that.
Thanks.

I think ANet is working with the assumption that the people who play their games are:

That is how it's being marketed. If little kids are playing the game, there isn't much they can do about it. Imagine toning down a movie like Eyes Wide Shut because it suddenly became popular with kids. They have been very clear about who their audience is, yet people don't always listen. It isn't any of their responsibility though. If it was, we would never have anything geared for adults.

PS: Congrats on your love.

I'd totally support in-game marriage. But the /kiss would only be available to those who are under the "Married' title. Holy crap, what a concept!

i dunno why people are so worked up on this issue. let the op do as they wish, it's their business and not yours. it's as if tolerance has gone out the window and everyone needs to fit into some people's view of the world or get flamed.

live and let be, it's their toons, their time and their game anyway.

and instead of flaming and psycho analyzing people for what they do in video games, why don't you find out why you have this urge to micro-manage other people's lives?

end of rant.

Hey that's a good idea....purchase a marriage license in game. You know how with the Faction Transfer NPC for Luxon/Kurzick you type your name in? Have the same concept for the person who distributes the licenses. After one of you has typed the name of your potential spouse, then it sends a message to the other player to confirm whether they wish to allow this person to obtain a license for them (to prevent abuse)

Well I must say that when i first heard about these 2 getting married, i thought WTF they went nuts! But on the otherhand these 2 spend whole days together on GW, and it maybe started as some sort of joke but then really want to do it.

Me, as a real friend of CRuMBL3 (don't like Jondalar ), and as a friend of Ayla aswell (or at least i think ) will give them all the blessing and happiness!

But there is 1 problem.. Marriage is 'till death do us part' so that would mean do more dieing or the marriage will be disbanded

Can't hardly wait for CRuMBL3's Bachelor party ^^ Gimme strippers! plzkthnx!

As much as that would be a good idea for you, you're best to leave that to an NPC... please trust me, you can scam a marriage to get people to stay in a country, and though the issue is irrelevant here.... just... no.

And Marriage titles? /notsigned. I'm all for these two getting married on GW, but I'm totally against giving them titles... No point, and no reason for GW players to see an uneffective title. If you're married... then 'that' is enough^^.'

but... omg... you guys should get married at either Ice Cave, or the Temple... forgot the name.. in Ascalon^^ (not Sardelac!). Or go somewhere in Maguuma, there are some really romantic places there^^.

But please dont get married in your guild hall, they're ALL ugly for a marriage setting...

I should have been more descriptive I meant the person who gives out the marriage licences to be a NPC not an actual person.

Sure, if you want. I think it's kinda weird, but... sweet, in its own way.
If you invite me or post a video on guild wars, then I'd like it too.
But, if they don't give you your emote, then just move your characters really close to one another...
And then you could have nuptuals... GW porn lol...
and then you could have a drunken afterparty after that!

Have fun! and don't get too frisky...

Not one to try to judge, but i agree we need the kiss emote, so them naked wammos can be weirder... although i will not go the wedding even if invited .
