This is a great idea. I wonder why anet didn't think of this...

/conditional sign. This can't work for all shields; just one or two specific shields. Something only available from your guildhall weaponsmith perhaps?
EDIT: for non-warrior/Paragon types you could add "banner" accessories with special guildhall only purchases. Scythes and staves with a small guild banner showing the guild colors attached behind the head. Monks could have targes in place of the Aegis/divine symbol, eles get a unique scroll, sins get colored tassels on their daggers, etc.

mage and ranger classes could get bracers. the emblem would be small but still able to be seen. bonuses could still be added. it would take place of their gloves maybe.
/signed for the shields btw

Yes, anything that can make a guild more unique and show more esprie de core (<-- spelling?) would provide an excellent atmosphere in PVP.

here is an idea for rangers, Have quivers placed on there backs. It would give them a place for the guild emeblem and finally show were the rangers are getting there arrows from. or is just me that has wondered were the rangers are pulling arrows from?

The leader picks which one. Then the emblem/colors go on it. The leader has to pay for it intially (2-5k, like capes) then the individual has to pay for the MODS only. If they wanted they could get a clean Armor 16 one for free.
To prevent abuse, levels 1-5 get a armor +6 shield, 6-10 get armor +8, levels 11-15 gets armor +12 and levels 16-19 get armor +14. Only level 20s could get armor +16 and new mods. A mod like +30 health could be 20k or so, recieved dmg -2 while in a stance 10k. They would all be customized. Honestly I think its a pretty neat idea. |

BTW, with the newest update INSCRIPTIONS, it seems that this idea is getting a better and better foothold. Maybe Anet has already prepared something like this...

Too much work for Anet, they will never do it.
You already have a cape, I don't see the point of having a shield that the Rangers and other 2-handed weapon wielder can't use. Casters with shield/banner stuff? Bad idea.

Paragons have shields...

I like the idea. Unique off hand items which identify your guild by a logo on a weapon or focus item.

....except!!!
Im a caster, and lets say my guild used a rose as their logo!
If I choose to carry the focus item, Im stuck with carrying a rose!!!!!!!!
I dont mind the idea of carrying maybe a flag on a pole, but im not loving that idea.
Perhaps a cool looking focus item depending on your profession. With unique guild colours or the logo on their somewhere.
I think a tiny bit more thought is needed into what a person gets.
If you make it so when you join a guild, depending on your profession you get a unique item in your inventory.
With attributes which arent profession specialised, they can work with any.

Great idea, I'd love to see this added, although why restrict logos to guilds? A player could also be able to wear an alliance logo upon his/her shield or a logo he/she chooses.

/not signed for purchaseable items
You have many good suggestions on how to do this... My major issue with this is any system where items need to be bought or customized for each character, that becomes quite the headache: think about the money, the inventory, and any items you already have. Lots of people will be upset by this.
My take is that the Guild master could customize the shield, cape, sword, armor, etc. The inventory would sport "eye" buttons where each item can be replaced by the artwork of its equivalent item (if available) if the Guild member should so desire. The mechaniscs for this is already implemented for the cape & helm. Other positions would allow to see the item worn vs. the equivalent Guild-customized item.
For example, if the leader customized a Guild shield, I can have my shield "look like" the Guild shield. If the character is not using a shield, then I can't have a Guild shield. If my character is using a focus, the it is the Guild focus that would be shown instead of the Guild shield. The change is purely cosmetic, and does not affect the item. It is up to the leader to customize all of these items, and up to the Guild members to contribute to the costs if they choose to.
Some candidate items would be (and in parentheses, what these could be replaced by):
(1) Armor pieces (badges), inclusing shirt (sachets, shield on back)
(2) Swords, staves (banner), etc
(3) Shield, focus, etc
(4) Cape (or shield on back)
Xe2rx2es
I guess I don't understand why a cape isn't enough. I mean, it's flappin around back there. what else do you need?
also it would be much harder to implement this for the classes with both hands taken care of. I.E. Assassins Rangers Dervish and staff holders

Well, you could always have an extra NPC in the Guildhall that could "customize" (not in the normal matter) your shield into the guild design, and revert it back if you dont like it, or leave the guild...
Guildmaster Cain
This might be too much to implement in GW1, but GW2 seems to have less restraints. Maybe this can be build in GW2.
Now we only have to wait two years...

I like this idea, but not in its entirety. The offhands would require a HUGE update and a lot of work. I like the idea of a badge or a sash. My boyfriend doesn't like to wear capes on his Dervish because they already have their robes. Most of this would be nice to have.
