Yeah, I'm curious.

You see, I've nothing left to do in the game but PvP...which to me is boring as hell and I'm entirely...not motivated at all to PvP in such small scale little trash battles in a game with so much more potential. So what do I do with my time? I get money, use money, try builds, and farm.

Trying builds is blown out for me because of attribute refunds, I can't have fun with testing all my builds because...all my PvE characters have to get an assload of xp just to get the refunds back. And now I've found my only source of money...is the UW/FoW, and even those drops seem to be more lacking...I almost lose money every time I enter unless some max dmg storm bow drops for me or something, other than that...just crap that I could get better stats on from the lost strongbox.

So today after I blew near all my last 200k on dye, new armors, and dishing it out to newbies...well I wanted to farm some more.

So I went to take on some jades. ---What? Jades were nerfed? Well darn, guess I'll go farm the OTHER jades in the reed bog. What? Now those are nerfed too? Goddamnit. So I head over to the Gates of Kryta...??? Nerfed?!!! It went from most everything dropping at least SOMETHING to every monster dropping NOTHING?! I cleared out groups 20 at a time and I got like 3 items, most just mergoyle skulls or some crap. And I don't even remember them saying they were going to nerf that. So I then went and tried griffons. Damnit! Nerfed...

Then I went back and massacred all the charr in Nolani for a few minutes...until I got that annoying little message telling me that if I killed the first few monsters in a place over and over againt their loot would turn to crap. *message disappears* ...no loot? But I just killed 'em! Damnit!

So then I went back to fishermans haven to farm the gold that randomly drops on the hill, I honestly thought this was just something the devs put in there for fun (like THE LOST STRONGBOX), but then I'm told that they're logging that info and that they're considering it an exploit to ban/suspend people who farm it? What the hell is this? Even stuff I thought was there for a reason like a nice little perk is now an exploit? Now FARMING is an exploit?! What the hell is going on?!

So now I've come to the conclusion that there are two types of people in the GW economy. Those who got rich quickly before every spot in the game was nerfed...and the poor, who can't make anymore money. I went to the UW and did about 7-10 smite runs the other day, came out with a few globs of crap and one ectoplasm. Woot...almost 10k...that's cool...I guess...just a shame I payed for a few of those runs myself so it was actually like...7k...or less...

Honestly, what the hell is this? Firstly does ANYONE see farming as an exploit? I mean you still have to kill the damn things and take time doing it, why nerf it? So we all remain poor for a good amount of time until we get insanely lucky in the UW/Fissure? Then we go and get...maybe 40k or something? Maybe? In like several days of trying?

Wonderful.

And the thing is, I actually used to ENJOY farming for gold, killing items, taking on groups of 20 mobs or something trying to stay alive knowing that I was working towards a goal, I enjoyed that. But day after day I find my farming spots totally wiped out.

To the point where if I was just a new guy going through Kryta for the first time I'd be pretty damn pissed that I couldn't even find a mid-range staff outside the gates...even after killing them an assload.

I'm just, dissapointed is all. Anyone who enjoys the tombs a lot will get money 'cause of sigils. Anyone who already had loads of money will continue to have loads of money ('til they spend it all like me )...and then we'll all be poor.

Honestly, why the hell are they nerfing places in the first place?! So that the droknar runners can take over?! Right now the most profitable service/activity in the land of Tyria (PvE)...is running people to droknars for 3k each. And that to me, is bullshit.

Your thoughts? It wouldn't be so bad if like, there was a reason for why everything keeps getting nerfed, but I don't even remember half these things being in the updates.

I honestly do not agree with their resolution to the botting problems, or farming issues. I think your own feelings mirror mine:

"And the thing is, I actually used to ENJOY farming for gold, killing items, taking on groups of 20 mobs or something trying to stay alive knowing that I was working towards a goal, I enjoyed that. But day after day I find my farming spots totally wiped out. "

This is why I enjoy soloing. No griefers, just you and the monsters. Very relaxing sometimes.

Exactly, right now I'm TRYING to get some extra cash to buy some sup vigors, not even for myself. I also take pleasure in giving things away. Thats why half my moneys gone. I just enjoy being out there by myself taking things on. Right now I'm just outside the gates of kryta, rounding up groups of like 20 at a time, gathering around, and killing them. Sometimes I die in the process by a few nasty putrid explosions, but I just enjoy the process...but knowing that I'm doing all this for the hell of it just takes away the good feelings.

I mean, the thing is why do they need to nerf EVERYWHERE. I mean I used to farm outside the gates of kryta a lot, and it took a LONG, LONG time just to get any good money, we're talking like 2 hours for 15k or something, maybe longer depending on your class. But they went and made it so that nothing drops hardly anything...just stupid.

*EDIT*

Well I got an idea after all this, I went to beetletun and you know that quest where you have to stop the undead from reaching the city? By killing like 8 groups and stuff like that? Yeah, I just went and soloed that thinking it was hopeful, killed all 50 mobs or whatever, and not a SINGLE drop.

Yeah I went to my faviorte build testing spot tonight (The Drakes and tengus in Divinity Coast) and the drops sucked. I make new builds about everyother day and I test in 3 places UW, FoW, and Divinity Coast. I know how effective my other builds were at these places so I can compare. I used to get 2 purples from every Tengu mob and a gold from almost every drake (Tuesday was the last time I ran this so it was after the previous updates), tonight I got 1 purple Heavy tengu Armor with a Major Beastmastery rune in it and 1 gold non-max damage non-modded requirment 8 hammer. The whole farming thing also causes the economy problems explained in the GW Material Stock Market Crash thread.

If you don't like PvP there are non-PvP farming games that you could play as well to reduce your frustration.

EDIT: The build testing is terrible for RP characters. Should be free refunds in cities and outposts.

The profession changing gives back all refund points

I also just do UW or FoW last and after 1 quest I have all 24 points back.

Maybe ANet wants players to delete their characters and start all over! That way you can get all the good drops again, and after finishing the game you start over again! That way you will really earn a lot of money!

I agree, even though I'm not big on farming myself. I know they have to get rid of bots, but is there another way that doesn't hurt the community that farms for fun?

Agreed.

Lets see ArenaNet join in this discussion...

I've just woken up and i can see the forum is crammed with nerf topics. Hmmm, i guess a sly nerf was placed in the update from these threads>?<

Anyway, i doubt ArenaNet will join in this topic, they couldn't even answer my simple question i asked a while back.

"What's the point in having enchantments if every mob will soon be able to break them?"

I recently started farming for XP/skill points so i can unlock all the skills. I use scrolls to double or triple my gain and the loot is just a bonus. I just sell 98% of the stuff back to the merchant and i've even stopped salvaging the stuff now.
What's the point? You only get a limited +% over the basic value and half of the salvaged stuff you only get base value for it.

In my opinion, the economy is whacked because the trade system is like a cavemans jumble sale. We need an auction system to regulate prices accross the continent, make selling to players easier/quicker and make obtaining items easier/cheaper.

Are ArenaNet clutching at straws for ideas? Are they fumbling with a flawed system and scratching their heads?

The solutions are easy...destroying peoples fun is not one of them.

[Goes to check the latest nerfs for himself]

This wasn't a subtle nerf it was more like a complete nerf to ever previously farmable location in Tyria. Litteraly everthing down to the char was nerfed and the gold on a hill is now an exploit.

Yeah, no suttle little nerf that most people don't notice...griffons...gates of kryta...any form of scarab...ANYTHING...is nerfed all to hell. Can't make money no matter how hard you try. You either get extremely lucky or you stay poor.

Gates of Kryta used to be a good spot for my necromancer, I couldn't make money very fast at all...just a few k per hour...but now I go there with my ranger who I just juiced up all to hell just for farming, run around the map and get like 40 bog skale/mergoyles all in one spot and AoE the hell out of them, got about 5 drops. A few drops of gold and some cruddy ascalon sort weapons. EVERYTHING there used to just drop mediocre stuff, by no means a "get rich quick" scheme, but hey, now you'll have a hard time getting money just doing the quests there.

I might have to go get the gold on the hill over and over again, I sent in an email to Anet asking for confirmation that it was being counted as an "exploit" and have not yet received a reply.

I think I'm getting paranoid about this nerfing after reading so much about it on the forums and I've only played as far as Bettlerun, however I started a new Character to test out the Ranger class and made it to 8th level pre-searing, yet have only seen 1 dye drop so far. My brother also started a new Warrior character and played up to 8th or so and he hasn't found a single dye yet pre-searing. Did they make it extremely rare to get dye now or is it just random bad luck on our parts. lol Seems strange to me it does. Meh.

Dye has never been real easy to find, so that hasn't really changed.

What's changed is just...every monster drops...less loot than it should. Period.

You're in beetletun right? There's a quest there where you need to stop the undead from reaching the city or something, you go out the door and kill like 50 undead that come in groups of 6 or so.

I killed them all solo and not a single drop. (That's what they did to "nerf" things.)

They meant us to gain all we need through playing the game. Well, let's just BELIEVE it is this way (it's not...), did Arena.net forget about all those people who allready completed the game?
Nowadays i'm not even sad anymore about the never to be have favor for europe. Why? Well, go down there... fight a LOT and barely get back the money you paid to get in. Great drops, yeah... they said that. I fail to see what is so great about 2 Demonic Remains and one blue item as the loot for 3 hours Underworld... hoooray. Feels like a hard hit in the face and the high pitched laughter from some botter laughing at me.

But ok, arena.net said we will make it so you get all the important stuff through normal play. Yeah, sure. Started a monk and played through the whole campaign. A total of 1 (one) purple item dropped between the beautiful Ascalon and Hells Precipice. And a total of 2 runes dropped... both of which were minor vigor. Booyah. Now that is all i need.

The changes itself, well to be honest... they are good. BUT (and this is a big huge, fricking gigantic but) they were needed a lot earlier. BEFORE Release. As it is right now the rich are rich and the poor can work their ass off and not even get close. I had a look at ecto today... GEEEZ thats a whooping 11 plats for ONE piece. Now take the money you'll get from completing ONE late game mission. 1 plat at max. So you'd have to complete the whole game one time to buy two ectoplasms? lol?

i thihk its pretty frightning what is happening, all right. seems like all places are nerfed, and prices are skyrocketing (globs, anyone?). what are we to do now, keep playing the game in hopes of getting a lucky rare to sell ? how can we sell unless people have money, which means we are only able to sell to the rich few

well it may not be so cut and dry this way, but scary nonetheless. its like ANET isn't even listening anymore, or are doing this intentionally... who knows

Yeah sort of think its BS too, but I had my thoughts about doing the run, simply because I am in dire need of the money. MMORPGs like this, money is mainly made from trading -buying/trading/selling. I suppose people will always find other ways to get money, like the casinos that used to exist, but man I don't know anymore. I can't really blame them since ANET set everything so high, especially the screwed up traders, but so much greed is sickening.

Are they even against farming? I know they are against botting, so that may be a reason why they nerf everything. If a player is not interested in pvp, and has beat the game, and america doesn't have favor, i think farming is one of the last enjoyable things to do. I'm pretty certain they are more farmers than botters, at least I like to think so.

the trader NPC nerfs are making this even worse too. you spend 4 hours farming, finding shit items, salvaging them for raw materials, AND YOU CAN'T EVEN SELL THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE WORTH SQUAT AT THE TRADERS.

I went through the crystal desert, and killed every minotaur, hydra, and devourer i could find. I found 1 purple focus item that wasn't even max (was like +10), 3 blue items, no runes. no dye. no upgrade items. The monsters don't even drop GOLD ANYMORE.

This isn't even nerfing people. Guild Wars is now broken. PvE has become pointless. You spend hours in PvE, for what? Nothing. You used to try to find good items or make money, but that's impossible now. You used to unlock elite skills and upgrade items, but that's all done in PvP now. What's left? Seriously? I'd like to know, because if ANet continues in this manner, I sure as HELL won't be buying any expansions.

i tried witman's folly without henches, and still got nill. it used to be 90% of the monsters you killed would at least drop SOMETHING. a crappy item, gold, whatever. now that number is somewhere around 20%. 1 in 5 monsters you kill MIGHT actually drop something.
