I probably had 750 hours played before I got my first black, and then I got 3 in one week (and none since).

(mostly pvp mind)
had about 4-7 black drops
1 off hydras 1 from fissure
and one off grawl(south shiverpeaks) and pre searing on my 2nd account, newbie chars get better stuff

I only read the OP, but I have not had a black drop for probably 3 months and before that think I had 3. This last Saturday my son and I were playing together doing quests and missions in Old Ascalon, no henchies. We had 14 dyes drop in about 7 hours of play, including 2 blacks and 2 silvers for him and a silver for me.
I played my level 18 elementalist the whole time and he was split between a ranger and elementalist, who both finished at level 12.

Couple weeks ago I had two drop over a two day period, each for a different character. Been quite the drought before that, however.

Is it me or there is more rune drops from different enemies. Just this week.. i got total of 10 runes, 4 are superior and rest are major to minor runes.

Yeah, I had myself a good spot where I got 2 superior, 1 major, and 5 minor in about 4 hours of farming.

So, it's established that Dyes drop more frequently in Pre-searing? Or, do we just see more dye b/c it's solo?
For the record, this weekend I've been farming while hunting bears for Hunter's Ale near Fort Ranik.
I found LOTS of dye, including 2 Black. Now I can't stop farming in pre-searing... (30 Hunter's Ale and counting, LOL!)

I LOVE BOT FARM NERFSit spreads the loot around more evenly for everybody else.
after the giant so called *farming nerf* months ago my drops got much better as the area farmers found their 20 superior rune/hour spot was only average .

I've had 6 or 7 black dye drops total, between pre/post searing in about 450hours total ingame time between all 4 of my no L20 characters.
EDIT: Note, i have only gotten 1 sup vigor, and no sup absorptions or any of the gooood sup runes other than having to trade for them in this time also.

I have over 1k hours and never a black dye!! I have 3 ascended characters with all missions complete and Im primarily a farmer /pvp player now!! I exclusivley do FOW -UW - Grenths and SF!!

Three characters, two ascended. four black dye drops, one of which I used on 30 Armour. The rest I sold to get better armour. Maybe half dozen silver.

It's finally happened. Got my first black dye last week (after prob 400+ hours, haven't used /age recently Came up for my new Me/R character outside Piken Sq. First really 'wow' drop I've had... actually, no, tell a lie, my L20 ele had a sapphire drop outside LA a coupla weeks back. Maybe that's to make up for nerfing my favourite AoE stuff

On my travels of 600+ hour gameplay, I found its easier to get a good deal off other players then hoping for that one special drop. Annoyingly I need to Superiour Vigor runes... and hell no am I paying 70K for one

I got my first Black dye after 480h
the second after 590.
You can easily imagine that the 100h in between was not idling aound in low level areas.
But I do know these people firsthand, that find theirs in the tutorial; 3h after buying the game.

Just got a black dye drop yesterday, in pre-searing of course.
Dye drops are much much more common in pre, Spiders near Fort Ranik drop them very often.

I've had at least 8 black dyes drop after 700+ hours played. Most of them dropped in hench teams or while I was pugging; none when I was soloing.

All I get is Green most the time, dyes do seem to drop more often in pre-searing, but its too boring farming there.

i was wondering , can you put dyes on it eachother so they stack?
like 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 and so on?
i have never tried it, afraid of losing money if they mixed

you can't apply two colours of the same type to each other. I have a stack of 32 greens and counting. You can't stack different colours on top of each other however

Had 3 black dye drops while in pre-searing. Sold them all when I got to Post-Searing just to get the monies for a new set of armour. Never got a black dye drop since....just greens, silvers and purples.

4 level 20's and never had a black drop for me but I've seen 3 black dyes drop for others, all of them in underworld.
As far as I can tell the drop rate is much higher on Bladed Aatxes than anything else in the game.

I was going to reply to this yesterday, stating that in 800+ hours I've only had 3 back dyes. Glad I waited. I did Sanctum Cay last night and a Savant dropped one.

i can't say i have been really lucky while farming but the amount of sliver dye that i pick reguarly is astonising i get about a sliver dye every day, but i have not got a single black dye ever nor any runes of sup vigor or absorbtion or any other sup rune for that mater
i really sould not complain since i farm with hench in gwenths footprint and get lots of greenies.

Over 785 hours I've had 3 black dye drops, one of them from a devourer outside Ascalon City, as I was going on a fart about with my pyromancer.
Why is the game coded to make the most expensive market items drop the least? Surely Arenanet must realise that this causes inflation on these items.

my problem is ORANGE.i did get my 19th black yesterday. one more for the big 20
at one time i had over 100 ORANGES in inventory followed by your favorite GREEN than purple
lots of silvers and only a relative few reds(37)
