My Complaints About The New Update
Algren Cole
1) No New Trade System - The one thing the game needed...it didn't get. After weeks and weeks of delaying and hiding behind bullshit promotions like PvPX...they couldn't even manage to put together a simple town area where people could go to trade.
2) Still Can't Toggle Capes - 3 lines of code must be too much for ArenaNet to bother with...regardless of how much the community wants it
3) Grenths Footprint Forces Me To Play With Other People - this forces me to realize just how stupid most people are. I run from Copperhammer to citadel because my ranger doesn't have citadel...find a group we go outside and the entire group gets pwned in 30 seconds. I run to grenths...4 people map out before I get there. This happens 4 more times
4) Chest Keys - if they dropped something more valuable than the key itself I'd probably have a heart attack and shit myself
5) Superior Salvage Kits - Can anyone explain to me why this kit costs 400 gold more than just buying 4 expert salvage kits??
add to the list...or put down what you like...or do whatever.

the superior kits hav 100 uses now instead of 25.

PVPx was a very popular promotion, just cause u suck at PvP doesn't mean other people can't like it.
2) Still Can't Toggle Capes - 3 lines of code must be too much for ArenaNet to bother with...regardless of how much the community wants it
Can you Program? I am sure it is a lot hard than 3 lines of code
4) Chest Keys - if they dropped something more valuable than the key itself I'd probably have a heart attack and shit myself
I got a lot of good stuff from chests, easily worth buying the key
5) Superior Salvage Kits - Can anyone explain to me why this kit costs 400 gold more than just buying 4 expert salvage kits??
That is peoples fault, more people wanted the Superior one so the price rose.

7. That people will still complain regardless of what Anet does or does not do.

6) As soon as people started getting the Green Items - LA was filled with "GREEN GODLY BLAHBLAH'S STAFF!!! 200K!!! AWESUM MODS!!11!!!" That is really annoying. And they arent even hard to find...just walk outside and kill a boss at the War Camp.

i hate damn scammers. i hate it when i see newb exploiters. i actually went and gave out max weaps to newbs cus i didnt want them to pay their life savings for some collector weapon.

I agree One and Two. I want good items, but the amount they sell for is stupid. And with the new Green items it's even worse

1) I never trade with other players, so sorry, I can't comment on this really. Trading is always a nuisance.
2) It's not integral, and they're bound to get to it in time. If you read the thread in relation to the filters, you find out that something that looks simple may be quite a bit harder. :Shrugs: Give them time, this is a purely aesthetic thing, and nobody will die without it.
3) Don't play it if it causes you distress is all I can say. If you don't like playing a game with other people, I suggest sticking to console RPG's. If it's just that particular map, then skip it. There's nothing unbalancingly new there.
4) The unlocks and the occasional valuable salvageable mods and runes make it worth what it is. You could ignore the treasure chests if you don't like their drops. This change fixes chest farming bots for now, with random placement, in addition to giving people rare items more easily.
5) Standard RPG practice. More effective items, or items with more uses, but greater cost.
Why should a potion that heals 250 in a game and costs 100 exist, when you could use another one that heals 50 for and costs 25? Spike healing, but what about outside of battles? You're still probably going to just stock up on the greater heals and use them always.
---
Edit-
On a side note, I notice more and more gold sinks and inefficient gold spending processes (technically also gold sinks, but not quite the same as +50% exp for 10 minute scrolls buyable from NPC's) being added into the game subtly.
Also, there are things I wanted that were lacking from the update. However, I've spelled them out before along with others, and I have full faith that given time, ANet will get to things.
Look at the faction boost; It's here and in full power. I didn't even think they'd keep it at the full degree of the PvP weekend.
People are BEING HEARD! An amazing new phenomena!
Well, amazing to me. I've played games where the company's vision strays so far from the enjoyment of players, that most of the players quit.

Algren do you feel cheated? Do you want your money back? Are you just a troll? It was a free expansion and 5 mins after it's released you are here bitching about. incredible. do us all a favor and go stand in your closet and bitch to yourself you obviously don't like this game so go stand there alone and stop bothering the rest of us that might actually like this game. Thanks
One and Two
heh. harsh, but true. nobody said you even have to do the new stuff. you dont have to buy a sup salvage kit. you dont have to do treasure hunting. you can get your damn henchmen, btw

stop bitching and play, this is the best patch so far, many pvp flaws were changed and the pvpx bonus is now permanent.
superior salvage kits takes 1 slot.
gold and purple items drop everytime from chests.
if other parties are doing shitty, make your own party. check everyones skills before you go in.
best part is you dont need a full guild group to gvg now

sixdartbart: No I do not feel cheated...I feel quite fortunate that I was given something for free. The new areas are graphically quite impressive. The henchman seem to be even smarter than they were before and the areas I've been to thus far are an incredible amount of fun(once you can find a competent team)....nonetheless I am a consumer and have the right to point out the shortcomings of the developer....they failed in many aspects. but you are correct...what was given to us is quite impressive.

The sup salvage is definitely a bug. I hope they fix it.
One and Two
not a bug...there has to be a price for extra baggage space. i personally dont mind. go and shout and damn anet and whatever, but there are plenty who will pay 400g for that.
Freyas
Have you looked at the Superior Salvage and Superior Identification kits before saying that they are a bug? They're different from the Expert Salvage/ID kits in that they have 4x the charges. They do cost more per charge, but then you have to factor in the convenience of only taking one inventory space and you don't have to buy new ones nearly as often. If you're hugging your pennies, then don't get them, but if you don't mind wasting 20 gold to make your life easier, then they're a nice addition. The old kits weren't changed, so you don't have to change your ways if you don't want to.
Algren- it's a bit more complicated for some things than you think. For example, in having a cape toggle, they have to add a UI update to allow you to turn it off- meaning they have to work it into the current UI, probably requiring other things to move as well. Then they have to tie the UI trigger to toggle the capes, translate the UI addition into a couple dozen languages, make sure it fits and works right at different resolutions, as well as in windowed/fullscreen mode in each resolution, since that changes the viewable area on the screen as well. They'd also have to add in code to check to see if you even belong to a guild with a cape, and likely change the UI depending on whether or not you even have a cape to toggle. I'm sure that they will have toggleable capes sometime in the future, but it's far more complicated than 3 lines of code.

Freyas: it actually isn't...there is already a checksum to determine whether or not you are in a guild...your guild is linked to a checksum that determines if it has a gape(you get a guild list and a guild hall right?? there has to be a checksum already defined in as a variable to check for this)...they could use those checksums to determine whether or not the UI button is available to you...the rest of your argument is about UI...and not coding. I have very little experience with User Interfaces(about 6 months with Turbine Entertainment) so I won't comment too much about it...but you can't honestly believe that it would take much effort and thought to figure out where to put a damn button.

Trade systems are something that cause a huge stress onto game servers(or so i'm told), so i'm sure they're trying to figure out the best way to put one in, and this one takes alot of coding... (Remember again that you don't pay monthly) -- Many games that have this are well... mmorpgs, and do they charge you? Yes (Even if there are a few that don't require payment and have a market, it won't be many). It would be a "project" so to speak. And a project in which they are discussing accoarding to a fansite friday question.
2. Cry about it? It doesn't change much not being able to... Sure it's going to be added, just not quite yet. (As you may tell, i dont care either way about the capes, i personaly think you're just too cranky, go to bed.)
3 lines of code you think? The simply answer is no. While I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard for them... It's the coders that are working on many other things, like what we saw in the update. I doubt they really had much time to do it in the first place (Not to mention it isn't really that important)
3. That would be the idea... Most of the game is for teams as it is... Imagine a place that dropped items that a person could easily find a way to farm (Oh ya!! That did exist... except they like their game to last a bit longer and changed that problem asap). Join a guild, seriously... if you don't like guilds, then i don't really think "Guild Wars" is your type of game.
4. They do drop better things then the keys price... Have you not used them? Ony key just made me 4k... Heck, i'm thinking of farming chests...
5. You have a point!! I personaly have no idea, and since i'm poor, i won't be wasting my money on it (Hence my reason for not complaining)... Ever ask yourself why houses that are 2 years old are significantly higher priced then houses 4 years old? Because people will buy it. Simple logic, although i don't like it. (Answered the question with a question, and agreed... It's just that i can see a little more "logic" then you can)
Anything else?

Trading system was fine. If you want to sell something just go to ascalon. That's the place to trade.

Well, I guess that means you must finally turn on your public chat and speak to a person. Although human interaction and social activities are strange at first, you can start to use the N function and meet people called 'Friends.'
4) Chest Keys - if they dropped something more valuable than the key itself I'd probably have a heart attack and shit myself
Karma. Duh. That's why you're getting the shitty drops.
5) Superior Salvage Kits - Can anyone explain to me why this kit costs 400 gold more than just buying 4 expert salvage kits??
Yeah they are a waste, I'd rather buy the normal ones, no point in buying anything else really, they're over priced.
add to the list...or put down what you like...or do whatever.
Or do whatever... does that include castrating you?

The other things myself and other people are still looking for are maybe coming in the future. They can't do everything at once.

3) I won't join a guild until they give me an option to turn off the horrible graphic for capes..they lack depth and proper animation.
4) see reason 3
5) the price of a house is far more dependant on it's location both within the country and then within the state...this argument has little merit. The superior salvage kits need to be fixed to reflect the price of 4 Expert Salvage Kits..or they need to give you a higher chance of salvaging out rare materials.
I love how this has turned into a personal attack...Kai I feel no reason to respond to you as nothing you said has very much merit

Wow, I see free updates really bring out the fanboys in people, no matter how shitty the updates are. All I see here are flames to this person's complaints, and not even viable solutions or arguments proving his complaints about this dissappointing update wrong. Many of the common things the community has been wanting for a long time, haven't come with this update. Many of those things were rather simple too.
And to the person telling people to stop bitching and play, and that many of the pvp flaws were fixed...I don't see an ER fix in the update notes. PvP is not fixed, and the lack of PvP content, even after this long expected "summer" update that everyone in A.net and their mother was telling us to wait for, is still dissappointing.

Good answer. I guess it's hard to convey the 'I really don't care and I'm satire everything' kind of personality. I do have to agree with you on the superior, they are a waste, just buy a new one when it runs out.

the superior kits are the best thing ever thought of, 2 kits can last me an entire lifetime

Why do these forums always turn into personal attacks. The dudes complaints were justified. I wish people would respect others opinions rather than bashing them. The reason all this stuff got changed was because of people's opinions. If all the people who wanted better merchant trade made a comment about it, would everyone be like, "Shut up bitch, quit playing!". Then we would have been stuck with those old merchant windows where all the items ran together and you couldn't tell what you were selling. While I don't agree with all of his statements, I respect his opinion. MMMMM....tolerance....

Folks, Algren has a right to comment on things the way he sees it. Disagree, but man... don't make it personal.
That said, I disagree... alot. I love the new update. After dumping refund points and making winning PvP worth more, they could have had a tidal wave destroy everything from ascalon west and it wouldn't phase me. And I got in a PUG from Rankor to DWC. They were awesome and we were efficient. Lastly, I think the Ebay business will suffer quite a bit... and I like that. Now some dude can grab henchmen and go try and find his own godly (<--smirk) weapon in a chest.

The information about your chars looks is probably on aNets server.
The server tells your client what to display, and what not.
So a "/cape on|off" command would simply add information to your char-profile which is on the aNet-server.
The server then tells your client wether to display the cape or not.
No client-update should (given carefull program design) be necessary.
Maybe it's more than 3 lines, but, shouldn't be all that difficult to put in.
I think the OP's intent was to point out, that a lot of things people wanted were not put in.
And because this forum lacks a voting-system for feature-petitions we don't know how many people did want what.
Question: What's with the 'each user get's his/her own color on the mini-map' thing? Probably left out, but since I didn't check the update yet, I don't know.
trelloskilos
Algren certainly has a right to an opinion, but without making it personal....
There's a couple of reasons why I particularly despise the series of complaints offered so far.
1. The update has only just been released! Give it a chance FFS!
2. It's free. The majority of the content does not force anyone to play it. The rest either addresses balance issues or makes things more convenient, so why complain?
3. No potential solutions offered.
4. Little realisation that just because things like toggleable capes haven't made it into this update, they may come in a future update. I'm still looking forward to an auction house or pet commands, but I'm not going to sulk if they don't come.
Now, this is to all people who feel the need to complain: Just give it a chance first. If you don't like it, THEN come back and complain. You do NOT have to act like Comic Book Guy and shout "Worst Update Ever" the very nanosecond you see something you don't like just for the sake of complaining.

Is there a new forum rule that says that you HAVE to be a pathetic moron and flame everyone who posts anything besides OMG I LOVE ANET OMG?
If yes: Your a n00b, idiot, whiner, complainer, non-fanboi. STFU and go play the game you n00b-idiot, or better yet show us your incredible free online RPG that is totally awesome, or else STFU cause customers have no right to say anything you moron unless they can do it better so STFU.
if no: i aknowledge shinsei's sarcastic wisdom, and i agree about the capes. i do disagree on the ID kits, since conveniance is always worth more gold, esp since the old option is still there. Remember that time = money, so you might actually safe money if you farm / play with 100 charges instead of 25 charges.

A opinion by anyone who bashes others with sarcasm and rudeness no one will take them seriously..
If the OP said something along the lines.
"After a long time of waiting for an update for the Cape Toggle when it was talked about for a while now and not getting it upsets me for the fact I rather not have the capes on my character." There clean to the point and not bashing anything or anyone to blame just a complaint but reasonable one at that.
"Paying for a key seems ridiculous unless the chest drop something that's atleast the same or more than the key I paid for. I would be glad if the chest or actually worth it =P" See once more it's serious and not sarcastic and rude. And no one would personally attack him as so and tell him not to complain.
To mostly OP and others - Basically.. don't come off as someone who's blunt and annoyingly rude as you bash and blame others when there could be some kind of explaination in the end when ultimately you really don't know what's going on.. you don't work for them.. you don't know anyone who works for them so don't bash and assume.. And then you won't get personal attacks and the same bash and blunt rudeness in return.

On the topic.
1, I have no real comment on this being that you have no real fight other than no new trade system.. which I don't remember anything said about this particuler update. =P
2, Toggling capes I understand. Some people really don't like them and some do. Capes are overrated at a point and pointless to a point. So I understand why a toggle would be nice for those who don't like the cape..
But, why let a cape get you so angry and foul at this? It's a game first off... Basically just deal with it until an update comes.. And even when the frog talked it said it was coming in the future as of a day or two before the update (basically future would make it sound it wouldn't be in this update. but that's not the point) I mean people who really want to leave a guild to not have a cape I geuss they care more about appearence than playing. =P But hey if the guild sucks anyway that's you.
Simply put, it didn't happen and they might have had something come up.. I tell ya.. bullcrap happens in life and a lot in programming new updates in a game with deadlines and what not. So don't assume it's as easy if you haven't done that kind of programming that long. Just wait might coem soon.
3, What? This just shows the reason why a few people are bashing ya. You should know that you can always play with henchies.. that's what I did.. I have done a few quests easily. So don't play with others if you don't want to.. and run there. Besides this update is about making it through the place with other souls wanting to play with others. it makes it fun when you have good players with sense.. you just had bad luck.. use the forum to get a group. Someone asked for help in FoW last night and we got an awesome group that night (myself included when I said I can join and left my IGN.) So there are other methods to play with "smart" people. And get a active smart guild...if you're not afraid of capes. =P
4, I haven't messed with the keys but I can tell you my fiance got a gold weapon when she got her first key from a drop and opened a chest. And I'm sure it's more than a silly key. =P So you sayign you didn't get anything worth 400g at least to sell? Yes, no? Besides a blant sarcastic sentence. Other wise I have no comment really.
5, I geuss I could see it being a little pricey. But hey if you like them use them if not don't. A lower price or deal with the convience cost is up to you.
As for the update I think they did a good job. As far as I can see YOU had 5 issues out of how many updates within it? I think that's pretty good if you're more worried about those five than anything else. About time for a new area I'm having fun. And other things I've thought were good like the Quest organization was needed badly in the first place.
One thing I'm kind of 'eh' about is the returned faction and preist in pvp areas.. It should've been done already -This coming from a person who doesn't care much for PvP- Other then that big good update. More will come atleast the updates doesn't cause ya to crash or takes hours to get or a day even to get it done when it doesn't affet you in anyway in WoW I'm sure they have done better then in the beginning. but hey it's a free game, and the people who are WORKING ON A FREE GAME should get credit.

5) Superior Salvage Kits - Can anyone explain to me why this kit costs 400 gold more than just buying 4 expert salvage kits??
[QUOTE]
Lets see, put 5 superior kits on top of your backpack (5 kits = 500 salvage), then do the same thing with normal ones (500/25 = 20), that will take up 20 inventory slots. 20 Inventory slots - 5 slots = 3 x runes of holding = 1.5k. So with buying 5 superior kits, you are actually buying 1.5k worth of runes of holding with it. Thats why. Im no good at math so if Im wrong correct me please Considering all the above 5 sups cost 2k more than 20 experts. So 2k -1.5k = 500g. 500/5 = 100gp. So you'll be damaged with 100gp with buying 1 sup kit insted of 4 normal ones. That 100gp is the price that poor merchant will take home for his reward in building that sup kit, and to feed his starving children. And youll be jumping with joy having 3 more inventory slots in your backpack.
