[MERGED] Farming with Henchmen
Cobalt
I kept count and set a goal of 50 boss kills trying to get one of the new green items never got a one. Drops from bosses were so bad I got one plain icon drop in the last 20 boss kills 3 drops total in 50 boss kills. 2 plain items and one scroll of insight, just disgusting.
I sure hope others are having better luck than myself.

You got one with henchmen? I've experienced the same thing. No green drops with hench at all. They drop way too often while playing with other people for it to be just bad luck.
KuTeBaka
they always drop one green item when they are killed, you are just really unlucky or maybe they dont drop with henchies. just go with other people.
Scaper-X
Remember, when you go with a full contingent of henchmen, you've only a 12.5% chance of getting any drop. Also, if you're continually farming the same boss(es), perhaps they also suffer from "drop anxiety" and will stop releasing their unique to you (see: Hill Giant farming).
Regardless, I've done the same (taking only four or five henchmen) and have managed one green drop. *shrug*

I killed an Ice boss with all henchmen and got a single green item that sold for 19k and two shards. =P The guy just offered it and I couldn't refuse.
Intricated
I took a full set of henchies as I pretty much explored all areas of Sorrow's Furnace over a period of 2 hours or so. Other than finishing 2 quests, dying at least 12 times, 3 gold armor drops, and a few purple/blue ones, I managed to get 1 green drop (a pretty nice curse-based staff) on the final boss I encountered out of the 8 or 9 that I came across.
So I am a bit inclined to believe that going with other players at least makes it look like green items drop more often. But maybe it just wasn't my day.

henches give the most skewed impression because drops are invisible. maybe they all were enjoying greens.

Now that is not true. I've been killing a few with a friend of mine and no green weapon dropped. We did not have any other person on our team, just us two... so no they don't allways drop.
IlikeGW
Yes, they most definitely don't always drop. The rate seems high, like 30%, but it's not a given.

I got one. But it's the only one I've seen in a day of playing. Myself and a buddy with a party of henchies.
Was funny too, because on that run, I got a TON of great stuff - way more than I normally get - and he kept getting stuff like plain near-max Raven Staffs ;P
When that green dropped there was some nasty stuff coming through on Skype, let me tell you!

I'm getting piles of about 100 gold, normal white shields, and other junk both in and outside of Sorrow's Furnace. I'm only using 4 henchmen and myself in hopes that their drops odds will increase because I want to see the green sword.

Heya Rac long time no play.
I agree, I've taken only 4 henchies and myself included to get better items.
question do the supieor IDs are better than the regular ones? Like the higher chance to unlock better mods on a unid item?

FWIW...
I cruised the desert and south shiverpeaks with 2 henches yesterday, killing everything, then cleared out witmans folly and the troll cave in talos chute, and the drops were PITIFUL.
You know the drops are bad when you _lose_ 140 gold killing everything in witmans folly just because you open one chest, and clearing the troll cave gives 200 gold, one white non-max bow, and one non-max raven staff.
Then, in desperation, I switched to my W/Mo farmer, and did some solo farming. The drops seemed to be about normal.
Unless I was just extremely unlucky, they've increased the share of drops for henchmen. Very nasty if they have, as it makes some classes (especially mesmers) nearly impossible to solo.

I sure hope others are having better luck than myself. the thing you need to keep track of when using henchies is, that how many kills before you see your drop. You could try and count and then kill the boss when you think it's your drop time. (but again something crappy or money may just come out)
its pretty much random and luck anyways.
First time going through GrenthsPath, I met Yakslapper and Thornbeard w/ full (7)hench. I got nothing from YakSlap. and a green bow from Thornb.
I think when ppl try their hardest in trying to get something ingame, it's most likely it wont drop, but when you dont think about it, it's usually that time it can actually drop.
(happens to me alot, since I farm)
*next time dont think how many bosses and just keep doing it. It's just really luck of the farming system.

It is entirely possible that is exactly what they did in yet another attempt to deter solo farming even with henches.
When I did my 50 boss kill run I mention in the first post, I cleared a majority of the area outside War camp and the 5 bosses each time. I picked up what little drops even the plain stuff I got but they were so few that I never had to stop and sell stuff because my inventory never got full.

You shouldn't be farming at all to begin with.
If you bring henches you shouldn't be expecting drops.
I brought 8 henches and cleared out most of the furnace. I got two green bows (exact same item) off one boss.
I guess you just have to be lucky. If you want your drop rate improved, try using less (or no) henches.

Patients my man. In 6 hours I got 9 green items and 5 scrolls droped with a full henchie team.

I think it's pretty much random, guys.
I've gone out with 7 henches, killed about 20 bosses, and come back with 2 greens.
Luck?
Or did they nerf the areas I was farming in one of the mini after-updates that they did? There were like five of those, they were likely tweaking those drops in response to a huge surge of farmers.
Whaddaya bet that Anet got a little shock when about a third of the population of GW suddenly came puring out of Deldrimor War Camp and started farming bosses?

Well if Anet were surprised by what happened then they certainly should not have been, what did they think was going to happen ? Especially given the cost of the keys compared to what you actually get from the chests. I've just been killing everything i can see just to get a key drop. In about an hours exploring i got that green water staff and a guildie (rest were henchies) picked up the stinger - I thought that was not too bad a return.

you don't *always* get a green drop from a Boss. i have been out enough to see that very often the bosses don't drop anything but a crappy want and focus or something.
i have been going out with henchies a lot as well. i only use 5 henchies in Grenths but still the drops are abysmal. i have got Thorgals shield. all my other good items are chest items (and they don't make up the price of the key all that often)

Thank God that i am not alone in this matter.
Earlier i sent an email to ArenaNet, to ask them directly......
Hello ArenaNet.
I have a question or two which i would like to put to you and i am
really hoping you can give me a sincere answer/explaination to my troubles.
I would appreciate it if you could take the time to answer person to
person, rather than just direct me to a website or give me a cut and
paste answer. I thank you kindly.
OK, well done on the update. Obviously you have worked really hard on
it.
However, since the update, i have spent a hell of alot of time in the
new areas in the joyful company of henchmen (Alot meaning 12 hours or
more a day).
Not once have any of the bosses dropped one of these much famed "green
items" with great statistics.
I have partied three times with other players, and everytime with these
player groups, bosses have dropped these items....sometimes two drops
from one boss.
I understand that i can't see the loot which drops for the henchmen so
to say but the number of bosses i have killed is absolutely insane.
I would guess at least 60... perhaps 100 bosses have been killed by
myself with henchmen.
I originally put it down to bad luck, then i thought i would give it
another day to see if things improve....they haven't.
Runes are O.K. and i even unlocked a superior vigor on my second
account but i see people bragging about getting 8 green items so far, 3 green
items just from today blah blah.
It makes me feel so mad and jealous.
I have even tried taking just four henchmen with me to increase my
chances but to no avail.
Why with henchmen am i getting no green drops? All i seem to get is 98
gold coins.
Here are my drops from my last trip.
23 Items, mostly whites/blues but a couple of minor/major runes.
68 piles of gold (35 of them were 98 gold coins..thats over 50% of
them).
Why does the loot seem extremely different with henchmen?
Is it engineered that way?
Am i being penalised for not taking REAL players with me?
I thankyou for your time and i anxiously look forward to your reply.

Why do some people complain that green items are worthless, yet others complain that they can't get any?
Don't forget that your drop rates will decrease every other time you enter the same area. So the more you farm, the less you get.

Nice letter I hope they respond and you post their response.
I went with henches most of the day again yesterday outside and inside furnace and again must have killed over 60 bosses I only remember 3 actually dropping anything but nothing green. I even reduced it from an 8 man team to 6 to try and improve my chances, did not help.
Last night I teamed up with real people and we had 2 green drops in the first 5 bosses.
There is no doubt in my mind drops with henches is no where near the same as with humans. If they respond telling you that it is, they will be out-and-out lying. I believe the crap drops with henches is done this way on purpose to deter people from solo farming with henches.

Well they responded in the same fashionable speed which we usually see. It's nice that i got a personal reply as i had wished but it kind of dodges the questions which i desperately needed answering and goes against not only the observations of myself, but others on this board.
Hello Gary,
Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars support team.
As you may know, Guild Wars recently received an update. (http://www.guildwars.com/news/gameupdates.html) Some of these updates included changes to how loot drops. Have you completed a full mission yet? Across the entire scope of a mission/zone, you should see an appropriate amount of gold and items being dropped.
If, after adventuring across an entire zone/mission, you still find that the new loot distribution is below satisfactory, we encourage you to consider posting your suggestions on one of many of the Guild Wars Fansite message boards. A compiled list can be found on the official Guild Wars website http://guildwars.com/community/default.html. By posting on one of these message boards, other players can comment on your ideas, concerns, and suggestions, and Development Team members are able to catch up on what the community wants to see in Guild Wars. Fansite forums make it easy and efficient for us to learn from those playing the game.
Please know that we did read your email and are responding with advice that will be the most effective. Thank you for your efforts in assisting us to create the best gaming experience possible. If you have any further questions please let us know and we will gladly assist you.
Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team
So again, while nice to get a reply so quickly, it still doesn't answer the question regarding green drops and henchmen.
I will send another since they have informed me of the option to do so.
To add, last might, i was assigned a green item while playing with people. It was a -2 enchanted, quick recovery from weakness, strength shield.
I got this while in a party of people.
Still no luck so far today with henchmen. I killed all the bosses in Grenths and as many as i could find in Sorrows Furnace, even completing the Political Ramifications quest which requires you to kill bosses.
What's going on?

I have sent another email (won't be long before i address them by their first names, heh
)
Anyway, here it is.
Hello ArenaNet, i thank you for your swift reply to my query.
However, i am still left asking the question as to why i get none of the green items while in a party of henchmen.
You asked if i had done any of the quests and the answer is yes. I have done a few of the quests, some of them several times. I understand the concept behind "playing the game normally".
I usually clear out the entire map of enemies, not just the bosses. I have just returned from one such occasion.
I eliminated every enemy in Grenths Footprint and continued to Sorrows Furnace. I did the political ramifications quest too, which requires you to kill bosses. Whilst inside, i killed (i think) around 10 bosses during that trip. Add that to the bosses in Grenths that i had killed, it becomes obviously clear to me that it is practically impossible to obtain these mythical green items while with henchmen.
"Party with other players, Gary" you may want to say. This for me is not an option.
I should not be forced to play with people who aggrovate every enemy in sight, go AFK, leave during the mission, go different directions, draw penises on the compass (yes that still happens), cry about wanting to "get that chest" and runs through 10-15 stoned summit to get it....
Players ruin everything and finding a good group that works well together is rarer than a decade of a democracy with no conspiracies. I play the game normally and i like to think that i am a dedicated and caring player but yet i (and others like myself) continue to be short changed because we prefer to play with henchmen.
It makes me wonder if i have missed out on anything else since my epic journey began on that peaceful day in Ascalon City.
Please ArenaNet, i beseech you, explain why i do not get green drops while with henchmen....
Sincerely and respectfully, Gary.
See what happens...

I did not find one green item after 3 days sf with henchmen. Did not count the bosses I killed but it were a lot. No clue if its bad luck and if players with pugs find more (some people suggest so). I sincerely hope sf won't become a d2 alike farming area whith only players cleaning it time after time just to find green items. Everyone wants those items, including me lol. But after 3 days I'm allready getting bored of doing the same trip over and over again. There must be better ingame ways to find those greenies.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Support. Please understand that the loot system is based upon a random generating system. While one person may get a boss drop on their first killing of a boss, some people are not so lucky. It is based entirely on chance. We do not have the ability to single out players for more or less drops than any other player either accidentally or on purpose.
Who knows? It may be that you go out today and receive 2 drops from every boss you kill. While you may hear of people that have received a larger than proportionate number of boss drops, please note that these people tend to be the most vocal in telling everyone how they have succeeded. The people who have only received one boss drop will not usually exclaim it in the All channel.
We certainly do sympathize with you. It can be hard to get these items sometimes and that can be frustrating. All I can suggest is that you keep trying, and I'm sure that you too will soon have your own inventory full of green items.
Please let us know if you have any more questions and we will be more than happy to assist you!
Kind regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team
4 PUGs (teams of 5) = 2 green items found
13 Trips with henchmen (teams of 4,5,6,+8) = 0 green items found

Have you tried going out with a reduced team of henchies ? That should increase your drop ratio a bit.

Kind regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team Notice how they avoided saying anything about henches and drops, proof positive in my book that the henches are rigged and Anet screws anyone who uses them!
I wonder if we could find a lawyer to take them to court probono for deliberately cheating players and causing undue stress on them.

I take two henchmen (monks) and one Warrior human player with me when I farm. I've made several runs this way, probably about a dozen, and have never seen a green item drop. When I'm with a player only group, however, I will at least usually see one, maybe two drops.
If you indeed CAN get green items with henches, it's so rare that you might as well be farming for godly weapons.

Cat Tabby
I got a green drop of the mesmer boss outside sorrows with a full compliment of henchies on my second/third run. I got a superior vigor rune from a chest on the same run:-)
