So what's wrong with rangers now?
MSecorsky
Judges Insight... hmm... 20% armor penetration.
Penetrating arrow... 20%.
Sundering horn bow... base 10% with +20% 20% of the time (IIRC).
Does this add up to a possible 70% penetration, or is the math done differently? I need to figure out how much kick this has with Kindle Arrows, max damage bow.

What I find quite amusing is that people complain about us rangers quite a bit, say we suck. What's this, oh wait Rangers are useful now we are in UW. Hmmm can you say trapped? Seriously though all ranger teams are great. The last UW trapper team I was in, 8 Rangers, we had a blast, flame trap, barbed trap, dust trap, let the fireworks begin.

I was so mad yesterday with this group that kept spamming "looking for one more final assault invite yourself..." and when I invited myself as a ranger, the idiot rejected me.
If they were not going to accept rangers, they could have said, no rangers etc...but they just wanted to pick and choose all those who invited themselves.
Gave them a piece of my mind...not that it helped.

Yah okay. But rangers are great. It's just people don't realize it until they actually meet a good one. I wonder if movies had anything to do with setting the mind set.
They rock in PvP. Their good in UW for traps. They spike a whole lot in...anywhere. Just hard to farm alone.

Since the update and no refund points needed it is so easy to change their setup. Trapping, Disrupting, Degen, and even semi-tanks. I still think warriors are better at tanking. A Wa/Ra would be an extremely good tank also.

Rangers. No one ever wants them in PUGs but everyone wants to nerf them.

That in itself makes me laugh. Rangers suck. Nerf them.
And by the way, my ranger makes me want a 1v1 arena really bad. Just so I could go whup on some W/Mo's and laugh at them. And get out my rage at applying to 15 groups and not getting into a single one.

I think you guys are all looking at it the wrong way.
It's not really a slight against Mesmers or Rangers, at least from my POV.
But farming around the war camp, you only need healers, tanks and nukers. You don't need a necro, ranger or mesmer. There isn't a particular reason to have one, and it's just reducing the drops by including one of those classes.
In a lot of missions, various professions have their place. But it's so cut and dried around the war camp for farming, why litter a group with more mouths to feed?

Are you one of those ppl who only have warrior, elem and monk as your primary professions?

Sweet. Did the final mission again for capping greater conflag. Found out the only way for a ranger to get in there is if they have winter. OK, no prob. What the hell did I take... ah, dual shot, penetrating, savage, kindle, winter, cap sig, resurrect, something else...
Anyhow, with kindle and winter, notice I'm doing some significant damage to the critters in there. Nice. Get to the area with the bubbles, warrior's pulling (at his insistance... rangers can't take damage he says... <chuckle>) so with two dropped losers, we're at two monks, three rangers and the tank. Slowly, surely, we get the ranger boss and I cap Greater Conflag.
Now I'm giddy.
Pop GC and winter, with kindle, taking near 100 pts per shot, with savage shot doing some timely interrupting. Warrior's going nuts too, doing all cold damage to the titans. Of course, he took credit for killing all the bosses after that. To the point of annoyance.
We don't get no respect.
I did, of course, stay and finish the mission for the first timers. Rangers do have honor.

Hear hear to all of this!
The first character I ever made, and the one I still play, is an R/Mo. I've always liked long-range characters, and I picked up the monk trait at first cause I wanted healing. it took AGES to get into a party, though I do admit that at the time I was still quite the n00b.
After a bit I tried to foray into the condition/interrupt area that Rangers seem to do best... but I found I couldn't do it as well as I'd hoped. Frustrated, I went back to my old n00b style...
And then some time ago I finally realized Judge's Insight might be, y'know, USEFUL for me. Add barrage to that and I found I was doing quite nicely. Penetrating attack also stays on my bar all the time, and those three skills are my main strategy. I may not do a TON of damage, but I am able to slowly whittle away health of more than one enemy at a time.
The one thing I still need to work on is my love of my pet, who is also good with damage but takes up three more spaces on the bar - one for charm, one for comfort, and one for Call of Haste, which I have found to be pretty good - thirty seconds of faster attack by your pet, with a 25 second recharge...
the last two slots are for Whirling Defense, which is good for when I need to haul out of there, and for a resurrect spell, usually Rebirth, since I figure I might as well use my monk secondary for a bit of support. I can't tell you how many times my rebirth/resurrect has saved PUGs I've been in, cause I usually stay back and therefore can get out without too much harm, then come back and rebirth my party members.
And ever since I found out about Gargash's Recurve Bow, which has zealous and fortitude in it, plus a damage bonus for enchants, I've been hunting for it... haven't seen it yet, though. I did get a Yakslapper, which I'm gonna keep for UW trapping runs, which I have found are quite fun...
When I go into PvP, I usually get rid of my pet, since usually they get killed a lot and the skill punishment isn't worth it, and I pick up Debilitating shot, which I love to use cause nothing is better than energy problems for the opponent, Distracting Shot, which I TRY to use but never can seem to get the timing right, and, depending on how I'm feeling at the time, I'll pick up Troll Ungent, Pin Down, or some other skill like those... I've never gotten far in Pvp, though, possibly due to lack of good practice...
Another R/Mo skill that I'm looking at is Strength of Honor, which I know probably isn't worth the energy degen and can be easily shattered, but with Gargash's recurve, and the fact that I already have high smiting for Judge's Insight, it might not be too bad. The recurve has zealous, so energy gaining won't be too bad especially with barrage, and those shots will do a little bit more damage.
But yeah... so yeah, rangers unite!!!!!

first of all i like to say that i havent read all the messages in the forum so i apologize if i say anything that has been said before.
I think rangers(just like mesmers and necros) have a hard time finding a group cus it actually requires a brain to make it good. about 70% of all players you get in a group has never done the mission or whatever before.
but of all professions the ele and the warrior are sooo easy to control that even the most retarded person can make it usefull, therefor they pick these professions, cus they know they'll do their part no matter how stupid the guy behind them is. and the monk, well why they pick them is pretty obvious.

Why do people do this? Can you not see that this thread is from over 4 months ago? I mean, do people really think that we still care?

Funny that you said that people are looking for nukes instead of rangers, since you wll hear the nukes making the same comments about not being wanted anymore.
After a certain point in the game, people get specific ideas of only way that a character build can work. Most assume that if you are a ranger, you must be a trapper, and a trapper is only good in a trapping group.
Using fire as an ele or not using echo nuke? You're a n00b.
I will admit that when my particular group start building a pug for tombs, we are very specific about what we want. We want 2 healers, 1 prot, 3 nukes, a tank and a blood/battery. That's because we have found that is the build that works best for us. Is it the only build? nope. Do we care what particular spells you are using while you fill that role? Nope, as long as you are doing the best you feel comfortable with in that role that is cool.
This mentality is worsened by the special non-storyline areas, SF, FoW, UW and Tombs, where people lock into one build and insist it is the only way to go, no one else is welcomed. I think the reason for this is because they are farming areas and not story areas. People want the goods. If you can do it with just a 55 monk and an SS Necro, then why split the possibility of ecto drops by taking more than 2 people down to farm?
As said before, if you find you can't get in a group, start one of your own, that usually work pretty well. I'll come sit with you at the kiddie table

It's interesting that you bumped this thread, given the way pugs are being formed for the new tombs. Go stand in D1 for a few minutes and you'll rangers are in very high demand.
A barrage/beastmaster group can run through in less than 90 minutes and suffer very little anxiety. Did a run this morning with 6 rangers, 1 MM and one healer. If the MM had been set up a little better, we'd have finished in less than an hour. As it was, I think I was the only one that died (twice) and I was doing all the pulling and we went through pretty quickly.
