Could Guild Wars be a dead game by the time of chapter 2??
dont feel no pain
i been playing this game for 6 onths and still love to play it but i noticed a big drop in players like what is going on my freinds list used to be like 1/2 online most of the time and now about 3 online (out of 32) so thats a sign of the game dying like what about once the chapter 2 comes out what then!!!???
NightOwl
Then more people will be playing, again.

That is not a sign, its a sign that the people on your friends list have quit playing, my friends list is the fairly active. A small number of people doesn't represent the game as a whole.
I haven't seen a drop, my guild is more active then ever, once chapter 2 comes out people will return.
Savio
Actually, for me I don't have enough room on my friends list. I almost wish there was a bigger list.

To get back on topic - no, GW won't die anytime soon. In online games, people come and people go. That has always been that way. You could argue that the time between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 is too long since most active players are done with the content of Chapter 1 and are eagerly awaiting new content. That's the biggest danger right now - bored people. My guild lost some of its most active players due to the fact they didn't know what to do in GW anymore. However, we also got a couple of new members, so our numbers are pretty stable. I guess that's true for GW as a whole, too.

This is where the idea that PvP should be played frequently when you have done with the PvE content. PvP adds alot of replayability, because like all games where you comptete with other people, the game is simply more challenging, and though there is a lack of rewards like items (though thePvE item rewards aren't anything special either), it's alot more satisfying playing a good night of GvG than plying, say, Underworld for the 1000th time.

GW is not a cult kinda game. its not the kind of game that gets its whole player base set up within a month of release, then regards any more players as a bonus. because of the lack of monthly fee new people are constantly coming to GW. its like a 'my first on-line game'. it has a rolling population rather than a constant one.
and i don't think i will be bored.

I disagree, if you go to Ascalon and Lion's arch in the English districts, around 5pm to 10pm you'll see it's always crowded like the streets of Sangai.

There is no repetitivity whatsoever in PvP, anyone who's convinced of that doesn't even have a slight idea of what PvP is like in GW.
Some of the spoiled kiddies who have too much time to waste on their hands will probably switch to WoW to UBERPWNZOROMFGYOUNOOB low lvl players with their 1337 weapons, whining about the lack of Uberness in GW, and will eventually get back as soon as Chapter 2 is out. Now THIS is sad. I wish they wouldn't.
My respect goes to the adult crowd, to the people who have to leave for valid reasons (university, work and so on). For the rest...less kiddies on?

why then are many top pvp players complaining of boredom and asking for more of everything from arenas to optional modes because the present setup is *BORING*. you must be very easy to please.
as to being to stupid to pvp to your lofty standards maybe the majority of pve people simply dont care about pvp except as a small side dish not worth the time/effort to be competitive at the top
this game was never intended to be more than a play as you feel like it and put it back on the shelf while you do something else until the next chapter.

Actauly what is happening is the old BWE crew is slowly disapearing, and the new people are comming.
I am happy to say, most of the new people ive met in pre-searing are much more mature then the people we have playing now. There might be a spike of getting missions done without the monk quiting.

I don't think GW will go away for a bit though it might not be something that people will be playing constantly. Sure people come and go. If people on your friends list leave and you still play, you have a new batch of people to make friends with.
I'm sure alot of people will come back for chapter 2.

This game isn't meant to have endless PvE content, and many of the people complaining here just picked the wrong game to me. WoW would fit better for half the GW PvErs.
I'm not saying GW doesn't have its flaws, it does, but many of the people here aren't even directing their criticism at the right things. For example, if GW had more unique, cool looking items, you'd see a major spike in active players. More armors, more customization, and better rewards when you kill a boss/complete an area like UW or FoW would be very nice additions.
You kill a Lich Dragon in the FoW and you get Glittering Dust. This is stupidity at its best. You complete the UW, nothing happens, except people leaving/whining because they didn't get an ecto. You open chests in the Underworld and they drop purple items...this game's PvE deserves soloers, sweatshops and botters as it is now.

Guild Wars is one of the biggest and most successful games on the Net.
What is a pity (and i'm not deliberately trying to troll because i like killing Trolls ) is the potentially damaging titles to various threads that crop up from time to time. Rumours, lies, allegations and paranoia....
If potentially new players browse the forums to enquire about the game and they see a "Guild Wars is dying" thread, do you think they will buy it?
Most people can't play a game for many months solid, so they take a break. It's only the hardcore players and the sweatshop zombies that always remain "online".
Guild Wars has a fantastic future.

One feature I wish the game had is ability to know when's the last time someone on the friends list was online so I can keep my list clean and also ability to group my friends.

I noticed that since school started theres a big drop during the week.
then a big boom on the weekends.
I work 3rd shift so i play in the morning, ever since school started its rare to see at the most 7 disticts in even Old Ascalon.
In the summer it was always in the teens or 20's even at 6am central time.
I also noticed more numbers during the week at night.

I'm running my first necro through the PvE world, the game almost feels fresh. The challenges are different yet familiar... in the quest where you rescue Evennia last night I was used to the Mursatt all getting sieged to death in the past when you casually follow them. Last night... some lived. After changing my undies, we still got 'em.. but for the uninfused it was rather exciting.
Back on topic... no, it won't be dead.

I personally stopped playing out of sheer boredom with the game. I still have things like to do, but the PvE experience is just incredibly dull.
I never did find anyone to play PvP with either, nor to consistently play with in PvE. Altogether, the community was just never there in my experience. I'll come back for Chpt 2, although I may drop out even faster if the PvE game hasn't changed from its boring nature in #1.

There are lots of things i still want to do.. I'd like to get into PvP, but 4v4 games aren't too exciting, my guild isn't active enough for GvG's most of the time, and no one in Tombs wants someone who is only rank 0.
Nawn Centz
Now, I've played since april 27th (first day of official release, non-beta) and I've been PvE the whole time. I'm only rank 1 cuz I do tombs whenever I get the chance of a lifetime to get in a group. Put it this way, I PvE for a long time, how do I find a tombs group? Random groups are a waste of time, and the top notch guilds don't recruit just anyone who wants in. Sure I could make a ranger spike or IWAY, but everyone does that and it's incredibly boring as hell to run IWAY for 4+ hours and now that people come with counters for it, it's a win the first battle, then lose the next type build. Any advice on how to get into a guild or just someone I can guest GvG with at all times that will show/tell me a build to use? (I'm not leaving my current PvE based guild. xD!)

There are definitely too many of us addicte... I mean loyal players who will still be going strong. Chapter 2 will bring a spike in playing, but it definitely won't be dead before then. Come to think of it, though, might be nice to have some peace and quiet in towns...

I played the game from the day 1. Completed it, but continued playing.. mostly skill capture and just fun. Then at some point I stopped for a while and later came back to start a new character. Since then I am playing again building 3 chars. While it's kinda boring doing the same mission and quests all over again and especially watching those cutscenes for 100th time, I still enjoy it.. new characters.. new people to quest with. And with all that, I've yet to get things like Collector's Armors and whatnot. And I've only played ~350 hours of PvE gameplay.
Definitely can't wait for chapter 2. .o/

The first "guild wars is dying" thread I saw was in June. The EU servers were ghost towns, and it was impossible to get teams together.
No, it wasn't true then either.

With updates like halloween, how can gw die off? (Even though the halloween may just be a publicity stunt) Besides. This is a game that for once, they developers actually listen to their players (*looking at my capeless scarless necro*)
Roza
I think GW does not get boring that quickly for creative and competative players, though these players may move to another game if that offers newer challenges, of course. Some of these players may held back by the fact that you need a larger and active guild for GvG and need to be quite good at pvp before you have any chance at winning (or sometimes even joining a party that is not composed of drunk people) for tombs. Perhaps a random 8 vs 8 arena may be a fun option for those players (who may then get sucked in by the pvp part of the game).
The game may get boring more quickly for less compatitive but creative players. Perhaps something like adding hard to solve puzzles, little secrets etc. to the game may be a good idea (for example, special, complicated quests that can only be started or completed if certain conditions are met, for example, the details of which might be set to change at regular intervals or be different for different players, so that the internet will not immediately provide ready answers).
Another (potentially rather large) group of players would love to see more expansion of the social stuff you can do in the game. More emoticons, maybe even beauty parlours, hair-dressers, etc, non-combat clothing, all that. This may also bring the towns to live more. Dances are a good example of something which helps with that a great deal. A lot of peeps like trading and collecting too, but the trading 'infrastructure'' of GW makes this a little tedious sometimes (I hardly ever trade now because it is so time consuming and I am far too likely to get ripped off or offend someone by offering a price that is far too low). Something like an auction house might work very well.
Another thing whuch may keep towns a fun and lively place to visit would be to add some silly mini games to the towns. For example, why not add a player versus player chess board to one of the towns (a big one so other peeps can watch and comment)? A npc could manage this board (a party of two could talk to him and get to play if the board was not occupied). There may be a que then, but that happens at the dart board or the pool-table in a pub as well. Or perhaps an organized paper-scissors-rock game, or a GW quiz in which a lot of people could participate.
Just some random thoughts.

I am not Playing GW as much anymore.
The reason i got bored sometimes i find myself login and just looking at the screen and logoff.
I have have Beaten the game with my 3 of my PvE and got over 240k(cant recall real amount but laste time i remeber) in faction, all this from the start.
Plus this 10k faction at the time its a bit crap as well.
Been Playing for 5 months with over 500 hours of game play.
Now when people say we all waiting for the expansion, i think thats a bit crap coz we are in like 4 months away from expansion and u can't play a game for 5 months and then wait another 5 more for a Upgrade, if you do that it means the game must suck.
As well we may be 4 months (if it comes Fev End Start Or March) and we dont know nothing about the expansion and When WoW its saying whats going to be new with their expansion. Again Marketing.
I think Anet lost track of loads of things and the Realms/Regions changes its one of them.
My self i am playing Football Manager 2006, Age of Empires III & F.E.A.R., so i dont think i will be wasting time for GW.
I was thinking in having a go at WoW but still not sure, and the fees for me are not a problem if the game gets you hooked.
I still read the forums to keep me updated, i have more fun reading the forums than playng the game.
And dont say, get a Guild and do Tombs or Guild vs Guild, coz i have a guild we/they going up and up in the ladder but, how much Guild vs Guild can you do until you get bored?
Well i got bored after doin it for 3 months every 2nd day, GvG/Tombs.
And yes i have done the FOW and SF done the Farming and got the Armor.
I hope i am wrong for the sake or Anet and most of us, but i see WoW doing what Guild got like guild Hall, Guild fights and with a real proper PvE Experience.
And if they crack it then it will be bye bye Guild Wars and Anet.
You expansion better be good, coz that will be your final test for most people.
Again let me just say i am not here to defend WoW or anyting like that, but i see WoW gettting bigger and better and GW going down even on the Top Charts.
As well something i just notice is, i can get GW for £17.99 and WoW for £24.99.
Now Gw its cheaper on the shops than WoW plus no extra fees.
Now WoW you pay more for it then GW, and you need to pay fees every month, but still there are more people buying WoW than GW i wonder Why.
Almost every month there is some sort of update about WoW on games magazines and nothing about GW.
Again you say to me that Gw and WoW are diff games and so on, but thats because you blind by the Truth do some search and you see that WoW is taking Guild From Guild Wars.
This Halloween thing whats the real point? to get people to stay in towns and dance like idiots and talk crap non stop?
plus other Online games have the same thing for the holidays so not really original, but a nice touch.
Just don’t waste too much time dulling on it.
PLUS THIS WTS crap all Over Lions arch and other cities its a JOKE, i have to turn local chat off coz of this kind of people.
So what is Wow As a Auction House make one as well, they copy from you, and try copy from them as well just solve it.

I say yes, Guild Wars could be a dead game by Chapter 2 unless the devs fix the most glaring issues with the game, namely:
1. the horrible trade interface
2. not giving Ectos and Shards as quest rewards
3. the ludicrously-low worth of Sigils (what's it 25k now, what a joke!) that makes them not worth winning
4. the lack of any fame reward bonus for winning or holding the Hall of Heroes
5. most of the gold items that drop in Hall of Heroes are worthless pieces of garbage
If the devs fixed all of these issues, then more players would be around. If however, the devs continue to let these issues stagnate then the player numbers are just going to keep decreasing.

It still not a better game to keep people happy, and like i said its not like another other game like FF, WoW etc... dint do the same thing.
