Role-Playing Districts
Darkseed
This might have been mentioned once or twice, but are there any plans to create Role-Playing districts? Maybe one or two per continent... could even have an option/preference that specifies you want to be put into an RP district when you enter a town.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Auntie I
You can check the guild wars website, but there are no plans to create any permanent districts of any type. Districts are created automatically depending on the number of players in any one town/outpost.
Darkseed
I know they are created dynamically, but they could still make some reserved districts (like the international one...) My post was more of a suggestion than a question.

I like this idea kind of much.

me too. its kinda hard to roleplay while people are yelling "omg my char dances like a stripper, check me out!"
sure you can get into a rp guild but then you have to make arrangements to meet up etc. it'd just be nice to have an RP district below International, so you can head over and meet others who will only be talking in character.

Yeah, while it has been stated that Guild Wars isn't your typical MMORPG, we still have the RP characters, and while I'm there I prefer to play the part, so to speak.
So I'll give my support to this idea

I completely agree with this, and hope this will be done in futur installments... or something
Marus Varrus
Seen attempts to get these started elsewhere I beleive they are using District 5 at all locations so it might help to select that distirct to get more RP experience. So far this is a player only deal just trying to get more RP people together.
Dendra
I think we can all decide to use one District to be RP (All the PSO fansites woudl designate one lobby to be 'theirs'), it'll just take time before everyone recognizes this. Maybe GWG can decide on a district to be the "offical" GWG RP district? Obviously, this would have to be one that most often is there...
Xavier
Count me among those who would like to see this happen. Hopefully it will, but the main question is would the developers be able to commit the time and resources necessary to police/monitor these districts. It seems as if they would have to add some kind of filtering mechanisms to keep out those that don't want to adhere to the roleplaying "rules". Monitoring this sort of thing is a full time job .They would have to hire new employees just for this task alone.
Mishaan
I would love to see this happen, but I seriously doubt that anything will come from ncsoft to support this. But until we get a definate yes or no, let's pick a district and run with it!
Darkseed
Marus suggested District 5. Might as well try it if other players already started using it. I don't understand why there aren't specific purpose districts. Even a Trade district could have been nice too.
Xavier, the point of an RP district is not to keep out those who don't RP, it's to invite those who do. I don't want any GM police in this game, other games already have that and have annoyed many players. I trust the GW community to police itself. Anyway, non RP'ers will probably leave the district by themselves when they find out...

Only problem I see:
If they make a RP District, all the griefers will come there for no other reason than to disrupt your RP and upset you. Because ANet cannot/willnot enforce any RP rules on free servers.
I know what it's like on WoW, and they have the right to ban/suspend people for it. I can't even imagine the horror that it would be in GW.

RP district would be sweet. I don't even try to RP, but if there was a special place for it then I would participate. On another forum I saw a girl claiming District 3 as the 'unofficial' RP district. We need to coordinate here people hehe. Is is going to be 3 or 5?
EDIT: As for griefers and whatnot I think it's our job to ignore them. I have yet to use the /ignore feature but I assume it works.

yeah i dont see that rp district would need any kind of 'law enforcement'... heck we can just rp back at those morons til they get frustrated. Imagine it:
moron: yaaaaaa ya bunch of losers! hahaha
rp: i'm sorry my good fellow? do you have a problem with which you wish to discuss?
moron: LMFAO! WHAT A DORK!
rp: dork? What is this 'dork' you speak of? Is it a newer kind of dirk perhaps?
(moron gets fed up after a few more taunts and leaves)
OR as an alternative, we could simply add an extra chat channel, so now the ones to 'ignore' are: Local (out of char etc), Guild, Team, Trade, Emote, RolePlay
that way no one who hate rp has to listen to us, and we can turn on ignore to everything but the roleplay channel.

go to the international district. there's typically not many ppl there and those that are there don't usually bother u.

I've been in Districts 3 and 5 and they are pretty deserted. In a way it's a good thing for RPers but...where are the RPers? :P
District 5 especially was totally empty. Which one do we pick?

A RP district or meet area huh?
Sounds like a great idea to me. I just started this game the other day and I love it. PvP isn't really my thing sure but I LOVE just going around checking out the scenery, story and such. Then it hit me....well if you can team up why aren't more RPers taking advantage of grouping up without the griefers/etc? I mean it would seem like a great fit...the whole world to RP in without being judged or whatnot. I'm no great RPer but I do try to stay in character in other games if I ever grouped with those RPing.
So long story short I guess that RPers really don't know where to meet up with others like them. An RP area would be pretty cool.
I've played a lot of MMORPGs....some good, lots not so good. I always try to be respectful to everyone because like them I wanna have fun. I really like GW and would love to see it succeed. Not as a game for PvPers but a game for ALL. I would hate to see the RPers driven underground like they were in the early days of games like EQOA and FFXI. Some sort of district that's RP only or heck RP-preferred like EQ2 would be really nice. I hope it happens!

So what do you think that a "quick fix" to the problem would be to select a certain district to meet at? I don't know much about how districts work as I've just started playing only a few days ago.
Anno Domini
That's the idea, Oziamus. As I said, I've been in District 5 and seems ideal to me, as it's quite empty. But if RPers don't agree we'll never meet easily.
I just got the game and seems it offers good possibilities to RPers.

I can only agree. A role play chat would be great aswell!

Hire some GMs is all I can say. I haven't seen one single yet. Maybe we should make a seperate thread for this? I actully think people won't even require payment but will apply for free

Ah this would be an excellent idea I would definitely like to see this on the European forums too. The whole storyline of GW is just begging to be RP'ed to. Actually, I find that the International Districts, particularly the outlying places like Serenity Temple and so on, are absolutely deserted. Would be nice if any RP districts are international too
Yup, the problem is definitely that wherever there are RP'ers, there are idiots who follow to grief them. I saw this alot on WoW myself - we'd be camped in Bloodhoof trying to have a good conversation about the state of the world and some Tauren would run up to us and yell 'OMG YOU MORONS ITS A GAME!!!' - which kinda cramps your fun :P However, it would be nice to have the option of an RP server anyway Nothing like spamming that ignore button when the morons come to visit...

Good to see that this is picking up a bit of steam...well at least until devs or whoever take note the best plan might be to meet up in some of the less populated districts. 5 sounds good to me. The only problem though is to get the word out....I KNOW there are more RP fans out there. Spread the word! Tell a friend! Use that Bone Minion for something other than a "naughty friend"! The word must get out!
eventhorizen
Yeah district 5 would be a good idea for RPers to meet up in, the problem is that you have expect to random ppl turning up in it, so dont automatically assume that every non rper in 5 is a griefer. And tbh with the kind of game GW is any fool who wants to harrass RPers will find himself blocked and with no mates very quickly.
PhazeFire
I've been thinking about the need for some sort of Leisure area like an inn, or something for people to kick back and roleplay and have fun, other than n00b charging as fast as possible. But yes, if adding an "Inn" to every major settlement is to much of a hassle, an RP district would be ideal.
I love GW, but agree with the lack of RP. And getting some in-char communication across, while the chat window is flooded with all sorts of weird bs, is enough to make a hardcore RP'er give up and go kill something instead.
I run on European server, and will henceforth be found in District 5 to promote RP'ing.

Okay, one thing I must ask... how can you roleplay in a game?! I always roleplay on forums, so how does this work exactly?

Don't worry, I've been RPing in Neverwinter Nights for...mmm 3 years? At first I felt nerdy but once you get into the flow you don't care anymore and go for it. Other RPers will help you in this.
It's a bit like dancing the first time: at first you feel weird but then you'll start enjoying it.
Let's make it District 5 then, but I play in the American server. Why can we change servers only 5 times? Anyone knows? Sucks.
Anyway, besides RPing in a district I was also thinking about creating an RP guild. RPed battles can be very cool too, and I'd like to fight against other RP guilds (if they existed) and make it really "personal", creating dramas and struggles between some characters. Or imagine if a girl falls in love with an enemy warrior she has to defeat (RPing of course). Can be cool.

Yes, there is that small problem with different nationality districts. We could all use District 5, but US would never ever get to RP with Europeans etc.
The only way to do that is to use the international district.
So an international RP district from the developers would deffinately help out alot.

You mean that if we choose International districts we might be able to meet no matter our area is America or Europe?
This can certainly help.
This can certainly help.

One thing you all are not taking into consideration is that there isn't always a District 5.. or even District 3 for that matter. Using those workes fine in the heavily populated areas but you could find yurself easily in a place where you only have 1 district and the international. The best option AN could implement would be an RP district section and have people chaeck an option that wouold automatically stick individuals and teams there. Otherwise you are constantly reforming groups.

Why not use the international district for this? No one else seem to be using it ...
Shiryou Kattami
Hmm, maybe organise a meet at some appropriate time in the international districts in a deserted place? When is a good time for people? If we can post GMT times with an equivilant US time (or vice versa) then we can possibly organise something to debate how to take it forward? :]
Nicholai Phoenix
Hmm... I might go into the international district a bit more often now lol this seems like a lot of fun.
What I think the devs should do would be, yes, make an RP district thats like the international district(Always there with at least 1 open district) that and/or maybe a RolePlay chat(Like there is local, trade, team, guild, whisper) that people can turn on and off :P these have been said before of course, im just restateing them cause there a good idea.

I lag terribly in the Int'l D. =(

I was about to post about the occasionally missing District 5 but I see you guys noticed it as well. The Internationl D. might do for now I guess, or we can use them ONLY in case D5 is not available.
The best would certainly be having an RP district AND a Roleplay Chat.
About the RP greeting: it's a pretty good idea to let others know we are RPing. Worth a try.
