Female players playing male characters?

I was wondering, do any of you female players out these play male characters in the game? Personally, I don't and have never done or wanted to do so. And the 4 or 5 other female players I met in the game all played female characters. Even Gaile, does, I believe.

But plenty of guys are playing female characters, of course. So, if my hunch is right, and female players don't play male characters often, why would that be?

It goes both ways, from my experience. Some male character models I just can't stand, but some (i.e. elementalist) look better as males than females, in my opinion

I play both not because I like to look at butts or anything. I'm a fashion person... I choose the figure that that 15k armor will look best on

I can't stand Monk and Necro female, and I can't stand Ranger and Mesmer male, for instance.

I don't mind about Elementalist and Warrior.

Welcome to the internet where the men are men, the women are men, and 12 year old girls are FBI agents.

Personally i wouldnt worry too much about the actual gender of the person on the other side of the screen. People are going to choose what looks appealing in every sense of the word, regardless of how practical it is. The only thing that really matters is the relative level of compotence of the individual on the other end of the line.

I have a friend who is female in real life, and she for the most part plays female characters. But does have 1 male character. She chose that for the same reason I have a female character... she just didn't like the look of the model for her gender.

I am not in the least bit worried about boys playing girls or girls playing boys. And what armour is nice-looking for what gender for what profession was not really my question either (though the best monk female armor stinks, if you ask me), I was asking female players if they play male characters or not. And if they rarely do so (the impression I got), I am wondering what would explain that.

But feel free to chat about armours, of course. This thread belongs to you as much as it belongs to me.

I'm exactly the same. I play a female mesmer and a female ranger, because I think their models look better than the males. But if I ever start a Necro, it'll be a male, and my old Elementalist was a male.
Just depends what looks better.

I'm a girl, and I don't think I'd ever play a male character. I like being a girl (and a girl gamer) and I feel like I would be misrepresenting myself if I played as a guy. Besides, GW chicks are hot.

I suppose that if I were male, I might take a female character if I wanted to see if people treated me differently. But even as a female character, most players assume that I'm male unless I tell them otherwise -- so I'm rarely treated differently and the whole social experiment is worthless.

Besides, EVERYONE knows why guys play girl characters. There's nothing like having your own private Ele lapdance babe. Or so I'm told.

My sister has met a girl who has played as a guy ranger. I'm taking some blind stabs at the reason, but I've got two: she likes looking at the guy ranger, she doesn't like looking at the girl ranger, or she doesn't want to be hit on by 12 year olds.

I think my sister would have played a guy ele if she knew what their armor was.

LOL Well Yes Thats Actually Why Many Males Play Females LOl....even though they wont admit it duh

I (as a male) never would touch a female character lol i think there are good looks on all the classes for both genders and i just could not play as a girl with the same mood as i play with a boy...also many girls play as boys since they are tired of people saying " wow your hot wanna have cex " and some boys play girls just so they dont have to ask other girls " do you wanna have cex?" Basically it. This is What a good number of people do even if u dont

This totally made me smile. When you break down human interaction in terms of who's trying to have/not-have "cex" with people, it's a shame we can't just opt to look like the opposite flavor when it's convenient.

I just don't mind ignoring the irritating jerks and playing the characters I like to play. I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard.

Well, those 12 year olds are not really that much of a problem, as they not really have the mental capacity yet to think of things that do anything else but make themselves look ridiculous. And more mature unpleasant types assume that you are a male, generally. The few times that someone did bother me was when they found out that I was female because someone that knew me was refering to me as 'she'.

It is not hard to figure out why guys like playing girls (thought the reasons are not always as crude as wanting to look at their own private lap-dancer, I think, but maybe I am just naive). I would feel a little awkward playing a guy, to be honest. "I am a big bad worrior, hur ha!"

Ouch.

I try not to assume anything. I just go with what the character model is; female is she and male is he, unless someone bothers to tell me otherwise. It keeps me from exploding trying to get everything right.

I think I've only been asked once while playing my female Monk, when a some random lvl 2 in post-Ascalon asked "hey are you really a girl???" I didn't respond, about 5 minutes later he(?) left.

My philosiphy (from a guy) is this:

1. If you're going to stare at something for long periods of time... make it a hot female character for me please.

2. Nothing is cooler than a butt kickin lady.

3. People wanna give you stuff.... why? I don't know, it's pretty sad really.

I play female characters exclusively, but I know a girl who plays mostly male ones. She just prefers the way they look. Her boyfriend plays only female characters, for the same reason.

Every character I have (seven right now) are all females. I'm not female. But if I have to stare at something all the time while I play, it might as well be pleasing to the eye (to me).

And I don't pay attention to how people treat me, I don't go out of my my way to act like a girl, and don't do stupid crap like flirt with other players. I don't play a female to get treated differently, or to get free stuff, or any other reason. I do the same thing for any RPG style game I play, by myself, or online.

Of course, almost every character is named after a porn star.

I know girls who play male characters because they don't want to be stared at (not so much a problem now as it was in the game's early release), and I know guys who play female characters so they can joke around and have people staring at their boobs in-game. Go figure. People will play what they want to play for whatever reasons they have, there's no one reason why anyone would choose anything.
