for 3 days now the server speed is extremely slow and buggy compare to the normal slow. I could click a topic and play half a mission come back, the page is still loading.

That's strange Pumpkin, I think the site's been running fabulously since the "tables were tweaked".

I had the same problems as pumpkin. Don't know what was up with the servers this morning, but they're fine now. Around 7:30 GMT-5.

update: this site is still really slow. and many pages don't even load... they show they're loading but the title doesn't come up and they will pretty much for all of eternity if I let them go.
Plus, I'm getting a problem where when I open a couple links at once NONE of them load as said above, and I have to wait like 2 minutes before any of GWG forums load.

Same problem as Refer. I stay logged out most of the time now, because it seems like when I'm logged out the site goes 10x faster than when I'm logged in.

I am always logged in when I'm browsing the forum, and again,- really fast response times at the moment.

Dont know what you did to the forums.. I have been coming here for a long time and it has always been a slow site, but in the past couple of weeks (not really sure how long now that i think about it) it has been VERY fast.

From what I understand Kzap (our tech wizard) tweaked, merged and integrated some tables, databases and other thingies ... does it show I'm not here for my technical knowledge?

it's very slow for me when i first click the forums tab from the homepage. it gets really slow (page load times in excess of 20 seconds) when i click on the first forum i access after logging in. The first forum i access changes from day to day. i experience periodic slowdown when waiting for a new post or comment to submit but, this doesn't happen all the time.
still it's much faster than it used to be. i haven't lagged out while waiting for a page to load in a very long time.

All right, just did a rebuild/optimize of the tables and we'll see if that has some impact.

It wasn't faster for a few minutes after the maintenance, but it's definitely faster now.

In all seriousness, I visit this site regularly (pretty much every day) and enjoy reading various things on the forums and looking at the pictures and artwork. But 50% of the time, the site is so slow that it takes 10 minutes for one page to load. I'm dead serious, I've gone afk for like 5 minutes while a page was loading, came back, and it still wasn't loaded up.
Is this due to all the closed but not deleted threads? All the people on it? Lack of server space? I don't know but it sure gets annoying.
It happens at various times both here (my fiance's house) and at home. It's unpredictable, so I have no idea when it'll happen. Sometimes it works great, and goes zoom zoom, but the other half of the time it's slower than molasses in January.

First off, for clarification this site hasn't had load time problems for 3 months. The loading times have been bad for exactly 2 days.
Second point to clarify, I have no idea what idiot (yes I mean idiot.. and i've never even used such an insult before on this forum in my 4 years) came up with the idea that "closed threads that aren't deleted are slowing down this site". I really can't even address this point anymore because it's ridiculous. Suffice it to say, whoever is passing that around I would not take anymore "server/computer/tech" advice from ever.
As soon as the server admin wakes up we'll track down this problem and give updates in this thread.
In the meantime, I have turned off our Search. I know this is a great inconvenience for a lot of posters but it seems to be improving things a bit. As soon as we can track down the source of the problems I can turn that back on.

Personally, I've had issues with GWG loading...since I joined, really. It's always been slow. And I never have problems with any other sites.
The last two days have been absolutely terrible. It's a ton faster today, though, after the maintenance.

Sometimes the site just freezes. I click a topic and it never loads, no matter how much I refresh it.
Overall, the site is still fairly slow. Especially if you compare it to other GW fan forums.

The site is quite fast for me normally, but around 13.00 or 14.00 (+1 GMT) it sometimes suddenly gets extremely slow. (Pages fail to load, replies go double etc.)

All right, search is back but I'm restricting it heavily right now. 60 seconds between searches, upped the minimum search results to a min. of 4 letters, only 50 search results will be returned vs. the 300, turns off if the server load gets above 5.
We're going to trial this right now and see how it runs. Then over the next couple of days we can adjust things as we need to.
I'm pretty sure though that we've simply outgrown the VB search. Courtesy of a forum member, we are looking at implementing a new search engine for the site to prevent the lock ups that are happening right now.

But I'll click on something and it takes 5-10 minutes to load. Same with posting. You wanted feedback so that's what I'm giving you.

I too am GMT +1 and the site is nice and fast for me.

Database is now running 16GB of RAM, double the previous amount, everything should be smooth sailing for hopefully another year+

this has to be one of the slowest websites and forum's I have ever seen, I usually have to refresh the page to get it to load , is it on a free host ?
