Because their goal is to sell quickly for the max profit available. You're right, they make their money selling gold and they get that gold by selling items to human players. They farm so much that their inventories are swelled up to the point that they would rather dump at 75% market value than try to push for 100%.
Exactly. I've bought all my recent weapon upgrades from chinese farmers, and most of the time they're willing to drop the initial price considerably if they see an interested byer. Might depend on the time of the day too (they must have hours when their working shift is soon to be over and they are supposed to hand the gold over the boss, or something like that - I've read an article about farmers in WoW and that's how it worked there, should work in a similar way in every gold farming "sweatshop").

Since my chinese is nonexistant I usually trade with those farmers that come to sell their things in Droknar's and talk some English .

Well, this is YOUR thread, and only contains 4 pages. Yes, I do expect the thread's author to have read through the thread he started himself ... why would one start a topic if they're not interested to read what others have to say about it?

I love that place. recently bought 5 unid req 8 axes for 50k.... after id'ing and salving, ended up making around 200k. One axe was a req 8 15>50 with 8% furious and 30 health that sold in game for about 85k. and got 2 +30 health grips out of it. guess i was just lucky then.

my sword that my warrior uses when i cant decide on axe or sword is a req 7 falchion 14>50, 10% furious, health +29 that i bought unid for 15k. guess i have good luck with those farmers

Heh, I think you was either very lucky or met a newbie farmer, which means lucky again . I heard they usually equip the unid weapons, and no way they'll sell a req 8 fellblade if it gives the wearer +30 HP when equipped.

But then, I haven't bought any of the unid things myself.

Actually most of the time you can talk their prices down, thats how i got that falchion. he wanted 30k for it, i said "15k ok?" and he accepted. they are out to get gold fast. Same thing happend in ID 1 + 2 of Tombs. found some good sales there too for friends / chars that i can never decide on. lol

wait id better stop, im giving my secrets away......

They go to Int districts to sell to expand their market to the other servers. Simple.

That is quite possibly THE funniest thing I've ever read on these forums.

And this topic is getting ridiculous.

its like fishing in the Asian sea....you throw out a couple shou's, maybe sprinkle some jin mai liao's on there...hope to get a nibble, but its not over yet...then you have to reel them in by offering what you think they want for the item they randomly put in the trade window

I bought an unid hammer for 1k...turned out to be 17<50, +5AR and 5/1 vamp.

Interesting.. I always assumed that when its UnID'd the mods dont work yet. I'll have to test this out. If this is the case I'm surprised I havent seen peple spamming "WTS UnID +30hp mod sword" etc (similar to how peple sell UnID Superior Vigor for example).

That place sure is a strange sight. For one thing, I'm guessing there's no higher concentration of monks anywhere in Tyria. And once that sinks in, the meta-realization that you're standing (virtually) amid a throng of what happen to be Chinese monks hawking weapons makes it truly surreal.

Here is the population of Augury International 1 at 8am EST on Wednesday November 16. All of these characters are suspected hired farmers or bots.

It'd be difficult to submit the name, date, and time of perhaps 200 monks, but the place is Augury Rock, international district, seven days a week, 24 hours per day. You can't miss them.

That was my assumption as well ... has anyone confirmed that you can do something like this? I've unlocked most of my upgrades, so I would like to start selling un-id'd low req. items with detectable mods, that would be neat

Gaile, Augury rock INT dis 1...they're always there. Anytime, anyday, just check out the logs. You might also want to check out people with "hao" on their names. every single "something Hao" or "hao something" I've ever met in this game (dont know if thats a word in korean or chinese) spams LA d1 with unid gold items, more often than not 10 at a time. Not to mention they're also all monks.

How does this prove that they're professional farmers? How is this different from all the spammers in Ascalon / Droknar's Forge / War Camp? I see the same 5 people spamming in each district daily. Simply being there does not mean someone is a professional farmer.

This thread's turning into a big witch hunt. OMG the Asian farmers are taking over GW! They're everywhere!

AncientPC: Have you been to intl district? Except during frog-events, in Lions Arch and Ascalon there's perhaps ten people in the single district there is. On a good day you may get as many as, oh, twenty people there. In most towns you'll be all alone.

Last I checked Augury Rock there's perhaps 200. All of them monks. Half of them repeatedly running out the west exit, with about two minute intervals, half just stand around, sometimes spamming WTS in Chinese. There's usually even more than one district.

You're not seriously going to claim that these are ordinary players, are you?

Sure, there are five real players in there somewhere, and they may even be monks, but I'd bet 10K that the bulk of them are farmers, operating multiple heavily scripted farming avatars and mules.

Yes, there are spambots/mules and professional farmers in other places as well - I met some at Augury Rock EU servers yesterday - but the bulk of the Farming Army is presently at Augury Rock, intl.

1) Obviously from my previous posts I have been to Augury Int 1 very often.

2) If you go into any other trading district, the spam is just the same. The only difference in Augury 1 is that you can't understand the spam, therefore they must be bots.

3) The number of monks farming grypons is much lower now due to the patch. If you went to Augury or TOA pre-aoe nerf, there just as many if not more solo monks going out Augury or entering UW on the American realm.

What some of you guys are blatantly insisting is that if you're speaking "Asianese" in Augury 1, you're automatically labeled as a professional bot / farmer.

Theres a fair amount of bots in English districts, or hired farmers as they might be, definately asian tho, i dont know why they wanna come to Eu servers tho, nobody can understand them, they just stand around saying crap like "shou wu qi ca lia +30 10/10 789", "show? ok i sell 40k ok?".

AncientPC: the thing isn't that they're speaking chinese. The thing is that there's so many of them. If you've actually ever been to the international district, you should know that 20 players in one town is about the most you'll ever see, even in places like Lions Arch. And there's only ever one district per town.

Except at the farming localities, these days mainly Augury, where the Farming Army hangs out.

But you know this, which is why you're comparing to the American realm where player population is hundreds if not thousands of times bigger.

I also must have missed where I said that there are no bots or monk farmers in any other place than Augury Rock, international district. I was under the impression I said they were most conspicuous there because the population of actual players in the international district is so miniscule.

I must ask you: do you yourself seriously believe that the farming army at Augury Rock, intl district, are playing for fun rather than profit?

Divinus Stella: (nice name btw) it appears ANet has heard our discussion about the Augury farmers, and I think the reason they're now showing up in EU servers is that the intl servers have become too hot, just like they moved to the intl server after a crackdown on the US servers a while back.

What's wrong with hanging out in an international district? I believe GWG's local hangout is FH Int 1, why can't they choose to hang out Augury Int 1?

Asian players on average are more hardcore gamers than Americans.

Yes.
Have you visited the district to see for yourself what is going on? This is not a hangout. There is no chat, no groups forming, only solos going out and signals being passed. It is like seeing inside a termite mound, just androids going about their business. I am not demeaning Asians, just saying this district is full of bots. The recurring phrase is (I believe) a signal to the farmers that a bot has returned and is ready to be unloaded.

I think it's kind of funny how when we come across another group of people that seem strange to us we start developing all sorts of sinister behavior to explain them. On pure conjecture we come up with theories and ideas we turn into fact to support what we want to believe is happening.

It is possible that this is a bot hangout, but I doubt it's likely. It would make monitoring by ANet so very easy and I don't think that is what the bot community is about.

I think it is very likely it is a group of asian people who are hanging out and farming. Until recently ANet hasn't frowned on farming and US and Canadians farm all the time too. Koreans farm. Europeans farm. Australians farm. What's the difference? I think it starts with not understanding the language and conjecture.

NCSoft is a Korean company. ANet is wholly owned by NCSoft. I play another NCSoft game, Lineage. There are communities of Koreans, Taiwanese, Chinese, US and Canadians, Mexicans, Indians, and other groups from around the world playing on the US servers. Every cultural group has a different way of playing and hanging out. You see this a lot differently in Lineage because it is seemless and persistant and not instanced. Because of this social game habits from different cultures start to intermingle. There were Chinese players in my pledge and they didn't speak very good English and I didn't speak any Chinese. Still we started to communicate: ^.^ q.q o.O ~.~ *.* =P -.-

My point here is really ugly things can spring out of unfounded conjecture. Fear of someone who is different can create a monster that isn't really there.

Meh. At least have the courtesy to go there and look before you imply I'm a racist. Remember to look at some random other locations in the intl district, and contemplate the difference.

As people seem unable to grasp, or perhaps unwilling to acknowledge, the concept of virtual farming for real cash, I did a quick sweep of the net, and found e.g. these:

We're not here to debate whether or not professional farmers exist (once again US applying its own view of civil rights onto other countries), we're here to debate whether or not most or all players hanging out in Augury 1 are professional farmers.

I had a Chinese friend that I hardly ever saw loggged off untill recently. I suspected that he was working for a bot company and people were trading off his account, but realised that he just didn't sleep very much. It was always the same person who spoke English in the exact same way.

He gave me several max damage weapons to sell (20>50 5/1 vamp hammer for one) and when I told him after about a week later that I was having a hard time finding anyone willing to pay the topnotch prices for them, he told me I could just keep them. Would a proffessional botter, observing the game to feed their family do that?

Anyway, just don't acuse most of the people there of being botters. Obviously numskulls have reported them for looking suspicious or something already. Doubtless a horde of botters wouln't often be missed by the eyes of Anet. The conclusion is, most of them are real people playing the game and farming just asmuch as a UW 55hp monk would.

How many 55hp Monks did you ever see "emoting, dancing" and the like? They were either always idle, selling stuff or bragging about their fissure armor.

I would like to remind those that want to acusse Chinese people in general of botting Anet's stand on the matter; this is a letter that I got from Gaile Gray after counsuling Anet's support team on that same attitude reflected in members of this fan forum:

What is there to debate. You refuse to accept that there is anything fishy about having 200 avatars, all of them monks, all of them chinese speaking (insofar as they say anything), all of them farming or just standing still, 24/7, in ONE town in a realm where in any other town 20 people at one time is noteworthy.
Your explanation is that is purely accidental that some 200 fun-loving and definitely not professional chinese players have happened to decide that Augury Rock is the only place in the game worth being at.

I DO find it fishy, and I find your explanation laughable.

If they are many or even any bots there I can not know for certain, but it would surprise me if the farming wasn't heavily scripted. It's easy enough to script.

And I'd appreciate if people would kindly refrain from implying that I am a racist simply for pointing out that the fact that the vast majority of professional farmers presently are chinese. They are. Deal with it.

i can tell u, that is more like a "hang out place for all the chinese across the different server to trade. and stop saying like they are botter when u cant even understand what they are saying

- edit -
ok, mayb there is some botter/farmer that make profit out of ingame item/gold there. but for sure, not all of them.

Like I've said, this is no different than any other trading district.

So be it. Why is it I find everyone crowded into Ascalon1, LA1, DF1, and WC1? Man it's fishy that people would crowd into those districts just to stand around and trade.

In this sentence:
"You refuse to accept that there is anything fishy about having 200 avatars, all of them monks, all of them chinese speaking (insofar as they say anything), all of them farming or just standing still, 24/7,"

What does Chinese speaking have anything to do with it? You replace Chinese with English and you can apply that same statement to plenty of other trade districts.

I will "acusse" what I see. And what I see is tons of oriental (korean, chinese, i dont know and dont care) farming their brains out in augury intl dis 1, and spamming lions arch dis 1, forge dis 1 and ascalon dis 1 with lists of 10 weapons or items at a time or more. Sometimes 3 or more would simply come right up to me and try to force me to buy their crap. If they are bots, professional farmers, sweatshop farmers or whatever doesnt matter, what matters is that it sucks and must be dealt with. Save your self righteousness bull to someone who cares. And go ahead and get me banned if you will, I dont care anymore, this game sucks so bad its not even worth playing lately, and largely due to those asian, oriental, whatever farmers and the cursed 55hp build that destroyed the economy for everyone and which arenanet chooses to ignore. Reason they wont do anything against those farmers in Augury Rock intl. dis 1 is BECAUSE THEY ARE LAUNCHING THE GAME IN CHINA EARLY NEXT YEAR. WE ALREADY BOUGHT THE GAME SO WE DONT MATTER AS MUCH AS THE "POTENTIAL CHINESE MARKET" AND THATS WHY INGAME ECONOMY WILL CONTINUE TO SUCK, AND WHY ARENANET WILL BAN YOU FOR "DISCRIMINATION" IF YOU COMPLAIN. GET REAL PEOPLE NOTHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT AUGURY INTL DIS 1.

Yes.
Are you truly that dense and blind, or are you just the kinda person that enjoys being annoying? FFS, what else do you call when a district is full of ONLY chinese monks, and there is absolutely nothing going on around the clock other than people leaving thru the west exit and buying and selling? How can you deny they're pro farmers? It's so glaringly obvious for anyone that walks in it that trying to convince us otherwise just makes you look like a fool. Or someone that takes special pleasure in being a troll. Thats one thing that pisses me off about this community, there's always people like this guy that will always go against the demands/assertions of the majority either to make others notice them or because they're just plain stupid. It's because of people like you that nothing gets done to improve this game.

How can you deny they're pro farmers? It's so glaringly obvious for anyone that walks in it that trying to convince us otherwise just makes you look like a fool. Or someone that takes special pleasure in being a troll. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Apparently many of miss the point of a trading district.

How is this any different from War Camp 1? Everyone just sits there spamming greens, and everyone else is just farming GF/SF.

Oh wait, it's because they're all Chinese and speaking gibberish. Oh yeah and they're all 55 monks as well.

If you ever want to get your point across, it's usually better not to insult the guy you're arguing with. It merely leads to flare ups and pointless accusations and name callings.

Not read all of this but my .2

Some of the people in augery are botters or paid farmers (not for fun), plain and simple. I mean Cmon we know they exist we have proof (ebay) that they exist so its only a question of......

how many of them % wise.

my guess and its a pure guess is 5-10% minimun.

And again you conveniently use examples from the US servers with hundreds if not thousands of times larger population. Have you looked at Ascalon 1 in intl district? Lions Arch 1 intl? No? Well, I can tell you that right now, 17.30 central european time, there's 5 people in the only district in Lions Arch. They're not selling anything, but apparently comparing the size of eachothers headgear. Riverside: not a single player. Ascalon: 4 players. Droknars: a whopping 9 players. It's like that in the intl district - it's empty except during frog-events.

At Augury Rock, however, I count 50 avatars just standing still, and there's a steady trickle of other going out west. (There's much fewer now than a few days ago, so whoever reported it was unusually quiet there seems to be right)

Then go script it.
No. Unlike commercial farmers I don't play for money, I play for relaxation.

In this sentence:
"You refuse to accept that there is anything fishy about having 200 avatars, all of them monks, all of them chinese speaking (insofar as they say anything), all of them farming or just standing still, 24/7,"
Your emphasis.
Quote:
What does Chinese speaking have anything to do with it? You replace Chinese with English and you can apply that same statement to plenty of other trade districts.
1) The majority of commercial farmers are chinese. Deal with it.

2) Not in intl district you can't. As you of course know, but purposely ignore.

Finally, since you insist on playing the racist card I must ask: How, exactly, are you affiliated with these commercial farmers?

The difference is that they are soloing using a build that wrecked the games economy by allowing an output of gold and rares incompatible with how much the average gamer gains. The difference is that monk sup rune prices are not affordable anymore due to them. The difference is that several high level areas have shitty drops because of them, specially UW. The difference is that they are not doing it casually, they are doing it around the clock. And if you cant see all that, you are one of the people (all 5 of you)that will continue to play his game as this situation aggravates and drives more players out. I for one went back to play neverwinter nights, a nearly 4 yo game, because GW is not playable anymore, quite possibly because this community will never unite and request changes for the better, there's always gonna be people like you to wreck any efforts of improvement.
