Moa/Strider: well i sure dont have any stats or anything on it but with only 2 in beastmastery, my strider usually outlasts peoples wolves and stalkers that are the same level. He's just turned level 16, bless him.

You can't really set them to agressive/defensive etc. If you attack something, they will attack it (unless they really can't pathfind their way there) But you do get pet skills.

Charm Animal: you need this equipped to gain the pet, and keep it equipped to have the pet adventure with you
Comfort Animal: Heal the pet and also rez it when it dies (i think there may be others? not sure)

Then there are skills that you use to give temporary boosts to pets defense, or damage, or make them attack faster.

Bears and Dune Lizards are new. Bears have been there but have never previously been charmable. Dune Lizards can be found rather easily in the Crystal Desert.

spiders can't be tamed; if you try it then all you get is the message "That is not an animal"

LOL. I love the "This creature is not an animal" when trying to tame something.

If that huge scorpian or Flying octupus thing isn't an animal, what is it? A rock?

Pets can be of great use. I use a Moa Bird and it is often ignored in PvP combat (Bad idea!)
It gets ignored in PvP because:
a) People want to kill a player and not waste time on animals.
b) It's a darn goofy looking thing that can not possibly hurt them!

But I use Pet Bleed attacks, so many enemy players do not understand why they are suddenly bleeding!

Also, be careful about your pet dying in combat. (Killing Pets in PVP can be handy because....) You loose all your skills for 8 seconds when your pet dies.
8 seconds is a long time in PvP to go without any skills.

They are monsters, not animals. The difference is that the monsters are magical beings, while the animals are all natural. That is how I make sense of the message, anyway

I had the cat, a lizard and a bear and the bear seems to hold his own the most, in terms of tanking, but his dmg doesnt seem xtra special.

Please ... someone ... find an 00ber pet!

Funny but many people haven't seen 'thogs before so everyone ask me where I got the pig

True... what i find most annoying of pets is that they are always in my way... whether for moving or targeting... i hate it when a warrior is bashing in on me and i press C to target closests... and i start attackign with all i got and it seems i accidentally targeted a lvl 2 cat...

Well not taht extreme perhaps but they can be annoying...

I agree. Warthogs are great.

I picked mine up pre-Searing as soon as I got the skill.

just a quick question ...

do pets get exp from u finishing a quest? ... or is the only way for a pet to get exp is to kill monsters?

Yeah, i was also wondering about leveling up pets. also, with pets, does increasing your beast mastery skill increase their attack level/exp gain ?

Beast mastery does just what it says - it makes your pet attack for more damage, and increases the chance of a critical hit. Nothing about exp gain.

Should we sell their secret location or just give it away? I saw the wild boar running around but I am unsure we should just *tell* people where to find it. We just don't need to many boaring people running around...

It's a secret now? LOL I seem to run into them all over. I never was interested in them personally... seem so teeny-tiny. I like my Snow Wolf currently.

Okay did anyone else try to tame the rabbit? There is a rabbit in pre-sear Ascalon up near the top of the waterfall just behind Devona. I want the rabbit so freaking bad. I imagined it flying at peoples throats Monty-Python style.

Unfortunately it's "not a valid target"

-why is it green then? someone needs to fix this..the rabbit must be mine.

The color of the critter has no bearing on whether you can charm the animal. Currently in pre-searing there are:

Stalkers
Striders
Wolves
Bears
Boar (in a super sercret location)

Post-Searing:

Snow Wolves
Moa
Bears
Boars
??Lizards??
??Stalkers??
Jaberwokies*

* just threw that in there to see if you are paying attention...

It is a different shade of green. It is NPC green, not animal green. Just compare it to the nearby strider.

It is really a hint to the secret rabbit level you can unlock at the end of the game...

I totally understand that guys, I just really really want that darn rabbit.

Plus you gotta admit, when compared to the WoW method of taming and training pets, the GW version of pets seems a little weak. Just a little.

I will keep my Stalker named Saber and level him with me. Seems dis-loyal to just dump him when a bear comes along.

I want to see some screenshots of the more exotic pets, like the desert lizard and such.

SCREENIES!!

(So far I've had a lvl 10 Melandruu's Stalker, and currently am trying to level-up my snow-wolf - he's only lvl 6).

Furthermore, I think it'd be keen if we could dye our pets. :P

so can someone plz answer my question....

do pets get experience from rewards after completing a quest?

cause... if so... i want to get a pet now... so i can get it the exp from quests... but if not... then i ll wait a lil' longer

Vermilion Okeanos

I believe they do, or else there are no way for pet to catch up to the main character's leveling speed...

and if they require less exp to level, then they would have level so many times in the explorable before you did. clearly, thats not the case

btw... can someone post a screenie of the Lizard Pet? .. i wanna see wat it looks like.... have never seen one...

ya I'm pretty sure pets get the same experience from quests as their masters. I'm just short of level 16 right now and my stalker's level 14 (and an awsome tank too...I've had him/her/it surrounded by tons of monsters which gives me the chance to just fire storm, then run up and lava font and wipe them out and he/she/it still has health to spare)

I'm kind of curious about where you could get a bear though...haven't seen one since pre-searing and while trying to capture one with a friend it was using a skill that disrupted it everytime.

Vermilion Okeanos

they capture the bear pretty far back in the game... where they don't break charm.
