Just one question though; is bumping allowed on this board? Because so far most people have /signed this, but it keeps getting pushed off the page by more ideas. Also Lyra_song - sorry, I didn't realise. I looked through the index to check and I couldn't find it there, so I must havenot looked hard enough. |

While i hate ressurecting threads that havent been posted in as long as this one, would be nice to re look at it for factions with all the new pet types - even if its a drop down box when u put charm animal on in a town allowing you to choose your pet.
Would also be good to have a Master Tamer title track for taming 1 of each maybe if could hold more than one.

You could even make your GH into a wildlife park. It would add scenery to the background and maybe give your guildmates a place to go if they needed to borrow a moa bird.

Hehe. I did search for 'pet' but nothing came up, not sure why but anyhoo...

EDIT: Oh, and by the way - I think the Signet of Taming idea is great, with them becoming Signet of Spider etc

The Signets of Taming definitely have to be added!
It would be really entertaining to go to the Guild Hall and see all the Pets with their owners name as their tag roaming around the landscape. Especially since my Guild Hall is the Wizard's Isle, the animals would really enjoy themselves there.

My way of handling the mutliple pet issue with factions would be for you to be allowed to have multiple charm animals in your skill list, and when you tame a pet it changes to an icon describing the pet (its level, name and type). Naturally you would have to buy each "charm" skilll seperate and could only ever have 1 pet or charm on your bar at one time. Then you can eaither train your low level one, or pull out the lvl 20 one if you need it for a difficult mission. |
And as for warriors getting multiple sword slots or some such nonsense, you can't really compare the two. Rangers still have their weapons to store and handle, and for the most part there's not much of a statistical difference between the pets. With the exception of the spider, one is just about the same as another.

I would like to add to this thread. In fact, I signed up for this forum because I was thinking about pets a lot and I wanted to start a suggestion thread. I read the rules, did a search, and I found this thread.....so here goes.
Pets are a great idea, but the skill costs make them VERY expensive. To make pets worthwhile, the creators of GuildWars could create a stable in different cities. You unlock your account stable much like you unlock your bank.
The role of the tamer is the same...they take your pet so you can train a new one in a mission, BUT they take it back to your stable if you paid to open it. Your stable can only have one pet of each type—in fact, pets could be "unlocked" much like skills. As you get more pets unlocked, you get more titles--just like being a gladiator, or earning wisdom, explorer, et cetera titles.
When you start a quest, you equip charm animal and go to your stable to choose your pet. If you don't go to the stable, you just use your last pet. At the stable, you can check your pets attack type, damage, ac, hit points, et cetera.
If you create a new character you can still access your stable (once you pay the 50G), however, any pet you choose either starts off at your level (or your level +1 until you get to level 5)--then it stays at your level and does NOT get XP until it gets to the pet’s Master Level.
A level 15 pet would be at level 6 with a level 6 character. When the character gets to 7, the pet would advance with him--not because of XP, but because it matches it's Master’s level. When the character gets to 15, the pet starts to get XP. Simple. It would work very much the same way henchies change level depending on what town you teleport to.
Collecting pets can be very rewarding. It would not upset the balance. It would give one more level of diversity to the game while using the same engine the game currently uses.
I want to petition for stables in guild wars. Please...someone at ArenaNet hear me. The potential satisfaction from pets is not being fully utilized. This does not seem like it would be difficult to do and I think it keeps in line with ArenaNet's objectives.
I love this game.
EDIT: A stable would be one more thing you can purchase for your Guild Hall.

But I am strongly in favour with the stables for the Guild Hall and the ability to bring a different pet out with you whenever you want.

/sign again. We can do that, right?
The more I think about it the more I like the general stable idea which all of your characters can use. Pets should be unlocked. If pets had particular differences between what they offer the ranger, then I would view them more like elite skills.
If the Crane randomly healed you (like the girl with a flute) and the spider randomly did poison damage...et cetera...then I think stables should be character specific.
As it is, they are just different skins to the same abilities. Having variety in early level arenas and missions would be super cool.
Either way tho, I would be grateful if they put in ANY TYPE of stable. If they will only put them in if they are character specific, I will still "/sign" and be grateful!

Something ive allways wanted in this game is a Pet Stable.
Why should I only be allowed to have 1 pet.
I want Pet Inventory.
Some pets are cool for different areas of the game.
Some pets look better with different armor.
If I want to wear my 15k Canthan I want my Phoenix.
I Worked hard to get my Phoenix up to level 20 and Hearty atm
I miss my Spider.
My 15k Kurzick armor looks terrible wit the Phoenix but would be great with the Spider.
Heck a White Tiger would look kewl with the Kurzick.
Maybee I want to have a Black Moa.
I dont think its right that we do so much work with our pets but can only have 1 pet to choose from.
Give is a Pet Stable / Pet Inventory
We are getting inventory for crafting supplies. Thats not what we asked for. We asked for storage space for customized items. Sure ill take the extra space for crafting supplies but I dont keep them if i can I get rid of them other than Steel, Ectos, and Shards.
Im hoping that what the Developers learned in making the code for the storage will help them to make the Storage for Pets for us Rangers.
Im not being negative in any way. I support Arena Net and what they have done with this great game that steals hours of my life away each day.
Does anyone else think we should have Pet Storage ???
Im not being a spoiled brat either. If your a happy customer your a repeat customer. I would be very happy to switch my pets around for the many reasons you would want to.
Thanks

Then you might as well add in a new game mechanic, after all, if you leave a particular pet in the cage for too long, it's gonna feel like you've rejected it^^.
Add in a new deplenishment in pet exp. Whenever you use one particular pet to fight alongside you, each time that pet gains exp, all of your pets in storage lose 1/5th of the exp gained by the pet in action (with at least 1 exp lost).

Similar to how the Faction decreases by 10% every 24hours, it would be nice if your pet's XP did also.
Then again, pets in GW are pretty lame. You don't need to feed them, they don't really eat the monsters they kill, skills for them aren't too great, and they aggro like none other.
