I like it and have a problem with some of my characters names, so this would be very much appreciated by me. But it looks spammable so a fee (1k?) may need to be in place.

/signed - if it comes with some kind of regulation, like how you can change your servers: euro - usa. or pay an ingame fee or something. just don't let people change their names whenever they want, bound to get confusing

This seems like a awesome idea, as after i make new characters, or im playing on old ones i think of better snazzier names ^^
It seems pointless to delete char just for name so something like
/change name INSERT NAME would be good, and easy to use
The only downside is that people might change names every 5 seconds which could be annoying but otherwise i think this is a good idea =]

I just don't like the idea. Your name is something that you should stick with, it's who you are. Same with skin color and face. Hair should be changeable though.
Then again, I've never had a problem with misspelling a name or thinking of a better name later, I like my names.

Although, I do agree there should be a fee. Maybe even only a one-time deal and a semi-costly fee to prevent scammers, etc. from abusing this feature.
The reason why I don't mind the one-time deal is because you should be putting a lot of thought into your names, however, sometimes I guess you do mess up (spelling and don't notice :S).. or change your mind. Meaning.. the second and last chance you get to fix up your name... should be one with even more thought into ;P

15k for character redesign.
30k extra for a sex change.
50k for character redesign from another expansion you own.(that's always bugged me how different chapters are like that, we're all boat travel, so there's no reason aside from racism....heh

Especially with our final GW1 journey coming in GW:EN and moving to the "Hall of Monuments", it would be nice to allow us to change our character's name prior to us etching the achievements of our GW1 characters in time.
It would be cool if GW:EN started with an option to change our name so that we can be known from that point on as that name in our final legendary journey.

Good grief when I created my first character I don't know WHAT was going through my mind. It's quite embarrassing actually, but it's my main character that I've achieved alot on, so I can't just delete it.
Even if there was a nickname system, where your actual name is your base name, but you can choose to display your nickname for all to see instead. This option could be granted only once, so that we don't have a bunch of people copying each other

I think an emote like /changename would be waay too abusive.
People would change their names to something like I own X, or X Sucks, and change it back the next day. But I think that being able to change your name maybe once or twice a month would be an awesome idea..

may have been said already, couldnt be bothered to read through thirty six pages... but accounts are already flagged with unique ID's, for instance if you add 'this is a fake name' to your friends list, but they delete that character and remake it to 'this is still a fake name' the name 'this is a fake name' remains in your friends list, but it will never appear as online, because it no longer exists, instead it tells you that they're online with -another character-

This is the problem with changing your name. It is the only way another player can identify you. People who cheat would just change their names and no one would know who the cheaters were. Someone scams someone in Droks and everyone yells Madame Bozo is running scams we at least know who to watch out for. Now, if Madame Bozo could change to Bozo the Bongo Hunter no one would know, would they? Then you could assume a complete new idenity and your bad reputation would be expunged. It would be ok if you had some kind of fame meter that would let other players know if you were a honest person. But lacking that the only way we have to know you is your good name and if you sully it, its your problem. Live with it.
