I made my sin with a different name, I then began to become known as "darky" (from Darknight, my other char), eventually, all my new chars had darknight in the name, I'd kill to make my sin Darknight the sin or something

To avoid abuses, just make it possible do again only after a reasonable timeframe. I said, one month?

Yeah, long and painful thread not planning on reading it all... Anyways my point is that if so many people are unhappy with their character's names, why doesn't Anet do anything about it? Right, right the server issues, too many would change names, well here's an idea; (though this may have already been said, "not planning on reading it all") Why not setup name changes like account location switches, set a limit for an account, lets say 3 or 5 per, or add in-game fee's, much like a guild registration, charge 25 - 100k per change (there's a deterrent for most inexperienced n00bs, who haven't put ant effort into their characters). Guilds are made and destroyed quite often, that seems to be allot of name changes to me, and besides if pets can do it why can't we? If the only problem is server-related, then I believe this would be an adequate solution, please any replies/suggestions are appreciated. I really hope Anet does something about this, as it would make many much happier then being given another crappy event weekend.

Not for me. When I make my character names, I make them the good character names that I know I'm going to want forever, and I'm not going to regret.
And if I start to regret the name, it's probably because I started regretting the entire character.
A more desirable option would be to switch primary professions.
But then again, I don't want to rip apart Guild Wars at it's seams.

You picked the name, knowing what the outcome could be if you later down the road didnt like the name. If you went into the char thinking, hey they will let us change our name later, then you deserve to keep the name. That is what makes every name different. If your able to change your name, there would be too many copycats, just like with guild tags, ugh.
Lydz
I don't like my character name but I certainly didn't give it that name because I thought we would be able to change it later. It sucks badly.
Anyone can copy anyone else already when making a new character, so I hardly see the difference between renaming old characters and naming new ones.

Adding this feature one way or another would be good.
But what will happen to the old name? Could it be reused immediately by another player? Will it be forever lost or pegged to the original player's account? Could we change back to the original name?
Hmmm... I hope this won't get messy! :P

I think the name should just become reavailable to anyone who wants to use it (though who in their right mind would want my one char's name is beyond me)

For a price tho. Maybe 5 to 10k (rather 10) because it's kinda annoying when ppl change names all the time.
Maybe a time restriction would work as well, like 1x per 6 months.

As for the other options, might as well make a brand new character!

/Signed and Signed to changeling character looks as well.
I think the best way to stop abuse would be to only let you change your name once every so often like how account naming works. Making it cost to change would be unfair to some people and wouldn't stop everyone abusing it.

/signed. for some reason i was forced to change my main's (necro's) name. It was Fuzzy Taco (my fave name ever) but they called it offensive. a day later I made a PvP Rit with the same name, and nothing happened. all my armor and weps are still customized for Fuzzy Taco though. Please give me my name back.... i got 4 mil and some change XP, so i refuse to remake him.

Perhaps it should cost something like a platinum and have a time limit for another change like 72 hours to cut down on abuse and scamming. I have a couple of characters that I would love to change the name of but only once. I don't feel the need to change the character's name with my mood or the weather.

Since the beginning of my play on guildwars I have always been upset with the limitations the game had on character customization. I have seen too many look alike characters and even similar names as mine that I have recreated my characters deep within each series to become more unique. It seems like the more populated the game gets the more unoriginal the character creation scheme exhibits. I think the name change with a fee and a quota will help others who want to relive there veteran characters a new way and more importantly it will help get rid of bad names. This is more of the game developers benefit than it is for the players though. What people really want most is not only a simple name change but a full facial change and a broader selection than the oblique and option limited selection which the game first came out with. Compared to the newer games that are coming out and prior to guildwars you can go so deep in character customization you can start off as deep as the skeletal structure and even add in scars and freckles along with shades of different skin pigments and they will have a direct effect in the motion engine of each individual character. I hope you do this with gw2. As for gw1 I think for the veterans and other players a wider selection of facial patterns should be incorporated to us players. It can be something like a special weekend event or one day only per year just so at least we can relive our characters in a different perspective.

Like is it so hard for Anet to implement something like this, a simple hairstyle change? If anyone else can recall during some of the earlier Nightfall events some Tyrian characters suddenly had their hair changed to Nightfall variations. Added onto this there was that April Fools day thing, so the ability to change the way our characters look is certainly out there. Players just have no control over it yet.
I mentioned this before about name changes, we should be able to request a name change through the online store at maybe $4.99 and perhaps limit the amount of times you could do that to maybe once every few months. Anet stated before that someone has to initiate the name change, so the physical labor of that would have to be compensated with this fee.
Argued like before, ever angle of a name change type thing could end with someone exploiting it somehow, so some kind of reasonable measure would have to be taken to keep this at a minimal.

What a great Idea, Because I have a couple character names I regret making. But refuse to delete them due to the time/effot I put in!
Come ON ANET.

but (as mentioned by others), charge a fee for it.
Also, if it's not too hard, to cut down on name-change spamming, limit the number of times a name on a character can be changed. Maybe 3-5 times per character.
Also, also, as mentioned by others, I would like to see some features changed on some of my players. My Ele needs a tan and a new hair style (and a new dance, but that's a different subject!).
But I would be thrilled with a simple name change option. Whatever else you throw in with it would be icing on the cake.

Most definately. I think that a fee should be applied though, maybe like 1K per change? Otherwise I can see this being abused.

AND, i think it should cost 4k, and only be able to do it once a week.

Seriously, the fee has to be pretty high to discourage people from doing this:

Well i agree with the fact that there must be a limit to how many times u can change ur characters name on ur account... and maybe there should be a NPC who charges a small fee...
