Now, as far as they doing it, they can. Scripts have been written already. How do I know? because of the people who have been banned for an inapropiate name. Once they are allowed to return, the interface asks for a new name for that character.

However I doubt whether I would even change the names of those chars I dnt like their names currently: no real reason other than it's a part of them as much as anything else.

In some cases it would be great to change your characters names if you misspelled it or even if you made a character for a friend and they don’t use it but then that character becomes your main character eventually. One of my friends actually did that and they have wanted to change that characters name and hair style and so on. So this feature would be a great addition to GW if they actually made it so it couldn't be abused some how.
I personally would like to change a few of my characters hair styles and characteristics.

I asked Anet about this and they said if enough people contact to the asking for allowing Name Changes for the game, not just hey i want a name change, that they will consider it but, this suggestion is more towards something going to be seen in GW2 if it ever comes out that is...

In addition to names, why can't we change hair style and color as well? I'd go as far as skin color, face, and gender swaps too, but some people would probably think that's pushing it.

If there are measures in place to make sure that it can't be abused (preventing things like people using namechanges to get around being reported, etc), it could be a good idea.

Personally, I would love to see option to change nicks ingame. Why? Because i have 4 characters whose nicks are XXX Poland... (I created them when i was still a nab, and now regret it). Also, I have bunch of friends unhappy with their own characters, trying to change them at all cost, even using /report name way. Someone could tell us to delete them all and recreate, but time spent on playing em, all effort given, two things you can never get back doing so. Well I also see how difficult this option would be for ANet, as well as their servers, so i came up with an idea (sorry if someone before me already told that), why not to use the same way as for account name change, with 2 diferences. First it would be once forever, second it shall cost.
So to conclude. I /SIGN the idea and hope Anet will do something to create this option for entire GW comunity. And so, I would like to say "Thx in advance AN, your still doin' good :] " but so long... I don't wanna lie...

The ability to change names would be nice, but I can't really say it should be open to everyone. Perhaps a character has to have been around so long, or pay a fee such as 100k.

But all my names are pretty regular (I just want to change them/some)The option one way or another would be nice

Maybe need more people to report or just my name was too clean. Anyhow, I wouldn't recommend it since it's abuse of report feature.
I was sort of testing all the rumors about Anet banning names for no reason (well, name change would've been nice too), but it still doesn't make it right, I know.

changing names would be difficult i would think - what happens to the f list of peeps that have you on it? would you not be there all of a sudden? I would much rather be able to name my Heros' pets. My beastmaster team char has Lucy as a pet....but she sooo misses Ricky and Ethel and Fred, not to mention Little Ricky

Also for upholding rules and such it would be used by people who want to get away with acts that go against anetpolicy.
If possible i guess ok, but i dont even think there is a game where names can be changed so easily, if at all. i do know some but they arnt done automatically, and because of that those games charge real money for the service

Friends lists, ignore lists, and guild rosters could be thrown out of whack too. Not to mention the data base on available names trying to keep up. Maybe a one time only name change allowed by Anet on one character per account could be kept up by Anet staff. But imagine 2 million people wanting to change 10 toon names. It would be utter chaos. Even a tenth of that total would be more than thier staff could handle. And by this i mean the requests sent to Anet for this name change. It could take months to respond to all the emails and reset the name. This is a bad idea for many reasons im sure I have not even thought of. Delete your toon if you dont like the name or take more time in choosing it the first place.

) but now I don't like it anymore, so i'd like to change it, I don't scam, I'm not uncreative as my characters got first, and last names, why would I be selfish because i want to change my nickname? , I'm not illiterate, and well, ok. I play female characters while I'm a male in real life, but dude, I'm heterosexual + have you ever seen male monks, they just look lazy and fat ( no offence ).
