i would say its all about luck to find a sup rune( luck which i dont have 
) i would suggest UW, FOW, HoH, shiverpeaks, fire islands.... maybe desert..
and those very special chests dont require keys.. i kno exactly what two u r talking about.. 1 of them drops only armor.. around 8 pieces maybe more on a good day.. and other drops weapons... never bother to get that one.. to many summit mesmers... after i would get it i would just die by the mobs that rush u once u open the chest.. and even with 60 dp i could still farm them. but.. since i no longer have a war.. its impossible for me to get to the damn spot agian

I found a superior vigor in Aurora Glade off of White Mantle. But then again, this could've been a coincidence and not something that happens a lot.

Clearly the special chest is in the Secret Cow Level. Salvaging Gwen's Leg will open the potal, but only can only be opened by a warrior primary in the Spawning Pools, when Europe has favor.
Gwen's leg drops from the chest in the Tower of Courage. But only if you clear all of FoW before opening it.

On a serious note, Ettins are a decent place to farm for runes. If anyone knows a better place to farm for them, feel free to post. Unless you're posting lies and silly rumors. Not that anybody would do that. No, of course not.

Ok, maybe nobody got my point before.
The chest is on the ceiling. Yes, mounted hanging from the ceiling. Look up. In case you can't tell it appart from the other chests hanging up there, its the one marked gullible.
Edit: Sadly I feel that was unclear as well. One post from some forum-goer does not mean something exists. The fact that nobody elese has found this so-called chest, and that nobody has given any indication of getting an PM makes me more than a little skeptical. No, you cannot dirrectly disprove him, not easily at least. Go look at the ceiling, or atempt to open the cow level if you belive him. After all, if you belive him, why not belive me?

Ive found about.. 6-7 Sup vigs and about 5 sup absorps in over 1200 hours of play. There is no "special" chest, I highly doubt it, if you want runes, farm ettins at beetletun, or farm SF.

While you all are out looking for that "special chest" I'm going to be farming ettins. Lots of runes, and the nice ettins presented me with a special Christmas present today ~ A superior vigor rune.

Hmm well the rogue bull seems to drop an average of 300-500 sup vigs a day for me, thats how I supported getting fissure armor for all 40 of my accounts. The trick is: dont wear armor.

Just go farming Ettins between Beetletun and Nort Kryta and you'll get your Superior Vigor.
Don't expect do do a 1 or 2 farming runs and get 1 superior vigor, you can have that luck, but i doubt.
I've got one in about 20-25 farming runs.
Don't believe in special chests, i think the probability of find one sup vigor in Shiverpeak or SF chests are greater then finding them in the surmia mission, but that's only the probabilities.
But yes, the ettins drop a lot of superior runes, most of them are crap, that you can sell for 100g to the rune trader or merchant, but maybe you get the superior vigor you want so badly.
Until someone proves that i'm wrong i don't believe in special chests that give a superior vigor every 3 or 4 times you open it.

I've gotten a few a Sanctum Cay, towards the ettins, and unead...which is like the whole mission, but u can get them pretty much everywhere, it's basically luck, or maybe a hot spot for about 2 days

I use to get alot from tengu and you can still solo farm them with a warrior riposte build in mineral springs.

Didn't they nerf the Ettins slightly? It seems like I have to go A LOT of times to get a decent drop. And what's the deal with getting a gold drop and when you ID it or salvage it (with an expert kit) it is only a major or minor rune!?!? That just pisses me off.

This is the way the drops have always been for me. But when I ID they have always sucked. I think thats just the way it is. Im glad that minor don't come from gold anymore.
That is from just passing through yesterday. From 6 ettins, the corpses are gone on 4 of them because that isn't a normal ettin farm build. Nothing to counter the healing signets, so it takes a long time or a little bit of luck for them to die.
