i was able to open the chest 3 times on 2 chars. the last time i opened them several of them only gave less than 1k in gold and no item. my guess...

ive seen tomes go for 5k? same thing as going to trainer but it only cost 1k. tomes were made to make unlocking skills and developing the skill...
