I too have a 6600GT and I run 4xAA with no dips at all, although I am running AMD 64 3000+ and 2GB of Ram, but either 2x or 4x is good.
You should be able to run 4x AA with no problem. Yes it is worth turning on, takes the jaggies out of angled lines.
