I went with tormentors because it gives you a base AL of 70 instead of 60, and holy damage isn't all that common. And it seems to do about...

I'd go with blood at least, at low levels it will help you stay alive and do damage better then most of your other options.

Armor added from spells/items is added to every piece you're wearing. The only item this isn't true of is a shield, it's armor bonus...
