It's realism within a defined universe.
I'll use an RPG game by White Wolf Gaming Studios called Werewolf: The Apocalypse.
This is a game in which Werewolves, spirits, a spirit world, monsters and evil truly exist. Yet, it is set in a "Gothic-Punk" reflection of our own world. You assume it to be similar to our world, a bit darker of course, but our world... just with the supernatural element to it.
Hell, they have books called "Rage Across (Insert real country/city)" for some of its suppliments.
It's not hard to look at Guild Wars as a setting on a fictional continent( continents now) during a mideaval period with an added supernatural element.

Been reading this post, so might as well throw in my 2 cents
Knight/ascalon armor global absorption is a FIX. Period.
I feel bad for those who recently bought that one piece of knight/ascalon 15k or fissure boot. But. the bug/exploit/glitch has been fixed, just move on and find another armor combination for your warrior.
Sup absorption rune change to physical reduction only. Although I don't really like this change. But,it seem to be fair since it is the only class-exclusive sup rune that doesn't has a negative effect(health penalty).
As for shield reduction, I really against this change.
Shield shouldn't block or reduce damage on magical spell/projectile?
Well, if a crafter/monster can craft/drop a weapon that shoot magical projectile, it seem "logical" that the crafter/monster able to craft/drop a shield that reduce magical damage.
However, like Does-it-Matter mention in his post, guildwars is a defined universe. If Anet made a new defination that shield shouldn't have magic damage reduction, guess I will play by this new rule.
PS: Btw, I just complete raisu palace with a pug and my warrior operate just fine.
Cheers !!

This is an EXTREMELY bad update I agree, warriors should have all around protection again. I do kinda agree about the person on page one in referance to the W/Me thing. Elemental Resistance will counter a lot of elemental damage, +40 armor in any area tends to do that, and your physical resistance from these shields, armor pieces, etc. would help to counter the removal of some physical armor. That's a suggestion for some warriors who dont want to strike.
Anet has gone a bit too far on this nerf, Anet has once again made the dr. jeckyl mr.hyde-like change into Anerf. Nerfing completely fair things isn't right at all. Warrior shouldn't even be attacking other warrior in the first place, why would we need physical damage reduction outside of PvE, NOWHERE.
I have another char that's a war btw, and im going on strike too.

Hello Tien,
Thank you for getting back to us. The reason why we keep bringing up the same general sort of reply to your suggestions is simply because the absolute best way to get your word to the developers is to use the forums we have mentioned several times. We know it may seem counterintuitive in some ways, but Guild Wars is not set up like your average game.
While there is an ongoing dialog between the Guild Wars Support staff and our developers, our developers give a strong preference to suggestions made on fan forum boards. The capacity for these forums to collate information and bring together people who might not otherwise raise their voices in support of a particular feature is a powerful tool, as is the ability for the community to sift and concentrate suggestions into the very best version of what that suggestion is capable of being.
These forums have been an invaluable part of our development since early alpha phases, and they continue to be so. As stated on our previous response even though you may not receive a direct response to a post, our developers are always reading new posts and watching the community response, allowing them to get a feel for the issues and features that are truly the most important to players.
Kind regards,
GM Stefania

Take the normal Wars armor set up for PvP. Glads chest, leggings, KD gloves, and boots of your choice. Now lets compare that to the armor options for other classes. That's 80 AL vs elemental and other types of none armor ignoring dmg (chaos dmg from a wand is not armor ignoring). Since you can control what type of dmg you deal (elementals are the exception) you are NEVER going to hit a war with physical dmg because they get +20 AL which is a 1/4 reduction in dmg. Only thing war armor is good against now is physical dmg. Every class on the game can deal elemental dmg or armor ignoring. Now lets compare it to other armor set ups for the other classes. Ranger 70 AL base +10 stance +30 elemental dmg That's 80 AL base vs physical and 110 vs elemental Again ranger is the same as war just reversed. You can control what type of dmg you deal so you are NEVER going to hit a ranger with elemental dmg exept elementals (they have no other choice of dmg). Monk 60 AL base +10 while enchanted +15 while conditions (this is a global mod that was not "fixed") +5 enchanted off-hand Staff with Def head and wrapping +10 AL So a monk can acheive 95 AL vs all types of dmg that are none armor ignoring. That's better than what a war can acheive with the norm pvp set up under the best circumstances. Even if you don't use the Def head and wrapping you end up with 75 AL which is only a 1/16 more dmg compared to 80 AL. Keeping up yet? Elementalist 60 AL base +10 while enchanted +5 enchanted off-hand +10 Staff head and wrapping Again this is 80 AL vs all types of dmg. Since Ele's don't need the energy head or the enchanting wrapping this is not an uncommon choice. Beginning to see a trend here? Assassin 70 AL base +15 while attacking +5 def daggers Assassins are a little bit different since they can only def against physical dmg and only certain types of physical dmg. The +`15 while attacking is their best choice since you need that extra armor when you shadow step behind lines to kill a target. While attacking that's 90 AL vs all types of none armor ignoring dmg. While not attacking that's 75 AL as before is a 1/16 more dmg compared to 80 AL. Necromancer 60 AL base, 70 (tormentors) +15 MM armor (if using a MM) +10 Def head and wrapping +5 enchanted off-hand Tormentors is still the best choice for necos. Smiters are running around but with the recent AoE nerf you will see less balth aura so no need to fear zealots its fire. With tormentors and Def staff that's 80 AL. If your in PvE you can acheive 95 AL. Mesmer 60 AL base +10 enchanted or stance +10 Def staff +5 Def enchanted off-hand |
Your blatant attempt to give yourself material to whine about by twisting facts is borderline lying.
1. If warrior you use to compare is using energy armor, so should other classes.
2. Let's see what warrior can get:
80+20 glads
+5 sword
+16 shield with +10 AL vs elemental +45 HP when in stance (and you can keep Rush up all the time in combat)
Oh look 111 AL vs elemental.
And if I twinked the armor, I would choose sentinel and we'd have 131 AL.
3. If you wanna tank in pve you can get some stances and dolyak.
4. 5 AL less is not 1/16 = 6.25% more damage but rather 9.05%
5. Warriors get an extra rune and also gloves that make KD last 3 sec.
Lord Cooper
hey i support this strike.. not becasue im a warrior (im not) but because it should make it easier to get a good warrior in pugs! all the wammos that got run through the game with their cookie cutter builds and inability to adapt will be on strike.
the good warriors that actually played through the game and know how the skills work will just say "meh" rethink their builds and strategies and be back to kicking arse within half hour!
yay all you wammos with ya cookie cutter builds go on strike!!! it will make it so much easier to get a decent warrior in pugs.

If you want to post crap then atleast do it properly, something like this:
Warrior AL:
Base = 0 (Armor completely removed)
Weapon (fiery flame spitter) (-10 while attacking)
Stance = Frenzy (double damage)
Using healing sig (AL -40)
Monk
Base 95 (combo of all armors)
Staff (+10AL)
Shield (+16AL)
Focii (+5AL)
Dolyak Sig (+20AL)
Watch Yourself (+20AL)
Lolz look anet has nerfed warriors :O

Hello Tien,
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Customer Support. We'd like to assure you that we have already provided your feedback on this issue to our QA and development teams, and that both groups look at player feedback carefully when planning future updates / in response to updates that have been made. Forum threads such as the one you linked to are particularly useful to the development team, to gauge the response to any changes they've made.
I'm afraid that the development team thought the armour changes necessary, to properly balance them against other sets. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide compensation if changes are made to existing items in-game. We apologise for any frustration or inconvenience that this may cause to you and any other players affected.

Now you really think im going to say "ok no probs i'll go Farm for 2 months for something you couldn't be arsed to change a year ago"
I won't take no for an answer to be honest this isn't my fault this Arena nets a year is a heck of long time to change to change a bug thats been common warrior armor for ages.
My advice is from now on lets keep armor bland instead of mixing them to create a armor that suits a paticular build, and if you do make sure its 1.5k armor to save money.
but personaly I think this is a poor excuse of customer care some of us have doughts that Arena net care I wasn't one of them now however...I am bit.
I give em ideas they put in their games that make people want to buy heck I remeber posting back when I started my warrior about knights saying they should make armorers be able to pick what armor you want and stats and look at the armorers in factions now. I ask for a simple favor and they don't give a damn
I like the Guild wars saga alot and I will buy further chapters but Im not going to mix match Fow again or even get it again to be honest to much time and effort for nothing.
Anyway enough moaning i've sent them a good email back and will be awaiting their reply

droks run is still possible, tried it and did it.
doesnt mean this isnt a stupid nerf though, not all of us want to be invincible but being less of a burden to monks is nice.and yes my warrior does take steps to not rely on a monk but why the hell should i expect him to spend all his energy on me when i use my warrior.
being a person that uses all classes i can see why this isnt a good update but maybe those who hate warriors because they havent played one, get beaten by them in pvp or just cant play one effectively should keep their trolling to themselves

Sorry people, Anet couldn't have warned us for this. If they did, the towns would be full of spammer who wanted to sell their stuff before the prices go down. Releaving a whole lot of unsuspecting newbies of their hard earned money. They can never warn us for these kind of changes.

The entire shield/armor change as a whole doesn't seem like a big deal. People rarely touch warriors in PvP anyway, though now the reduced armor might make it easier for hapless noobs to beat IWAY , and in PvE dmg dealt to a warrior is rather silly if you're playing right, and like the quoted poster said, it can really only help the tactical lacking of the "wammo" stereotypes out there.

oh, how could i have been so wrong?!? such a simple solution here- all us warriors have to do now is to just to always be W/Me and wear sentinals armor all the time (hey, that 13 str requirement isnt THAT limiting is it?), keep up elemental resistance (another few points into inspiration), watch yourself (hmm, some points into tactics now i guess), and dolyak sig (at least it reqs str ....). yay! this just about gets us back to being as effective as we were. DIVERSITY?!?! who needs that? i mean after all we're all mindless weapon swingers anyway right? ...although now we can only fit about 10 points into a weapon skill. omg, you mean i cant run MENDING now? next thing you know, youll all be asking me to carry a book around at all times ...oh wait ... /end sarcastic rant over all the "solutions"
seriously guys, i like my sentinals set but its not always an option. 13 strength is a serious price to pay for the armor bonus, especially considering the hands-down best warrior heal requires tactics. wearing sentinals severely limits the way a warrior can actually use a secondary.
some corrections:
whoever said assassins should be on the front line as much as warriors ....wow, just wow- i dont even think i should touch that one.
whoever said this was just a buff for eles: uh, no. EVERY class can now beat a warrior easier than they could before. thats not a "buff"- thats a "nerf." previously a mesmer, necro, or ele could easily shutdown a warrior, but whats funny is now they can wand him/her to death while doing it.
warriors can still easily get over 100AL against ele dmg. this statement is true- with sentinals, plus shield, plus +7 warding you get 123 vs all. yes its higher than other classes but remember this: higher ARMOR gives diminishing returns. it was damage reduction (in our runes and shields) that REALLY set aside warriors as the class that could soak up damage the best. you know what the fact that warriors still have the highest AL means? squat, nada, and crap. without our DR, we're still gonna take almost as much damage as other classes.

Ok this one is yet anouther neggative one...
Hello Tien,
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Customer Support. I'm afraid that we're unable to provide compensation - either in-game or out - in situations such as this. We apologise for any frustration or inconvenience that this may cause. Please bear in mind that individual items / skills may be subject to change without notice, if it becomes clear or the developers feel that the items / skills are unbalanced. This is true regardless of whether an item / skill is too weak or too powerful. For example, a number of other items and skills were improved in the same patch that the change was made to the armour piece you've mentioned.
A full list of these patch notes can be found at http://eu.guildwars.com/support/arti..._13_july_2006/ , if you'd like to refer back to them.
We understand that changes such as this can be frustrating, particularly if a large amount of in-game currency has been spent on an item, but such changes are sometimes necessary to maintain game balance.
Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or concerns.
Kind regards,
Senior GM Max

I did reply to this just asking why they can't, they can change my armor with patches so surely they should be able to switch stats.
And to Arknow when a bug has been in the game for a year and everyones using this "bug" maybe people who began their first warrior thought that was the best armor that was a good all rounder. the thing that Arena net took a year to fix this is just weired.
overall I can't say im impressed with whats happened not only have I wasted 200k but my fav armor has been ripped to shreads by warrior hate/discremenation. And what I gotta say to them is it wasn't a proberlm before the only proberlem was either your team or your playing style...anyway next class set W/Me back to square one again but with +1 energy
Edit: come to think about it why not go on strike about all this "boo hoo wammo's lol" Monks got treated like shit I think maybe we should to. Tho what are the chances of anyone staying by their word.
Hello Tien,
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Customer Support.

If you need sentinel + Watch Yourself + Dolyak + Elemental Resistance + Def weapon mods to keep yourself alive you are doing something wrong plain and simple.

Fact. Absorption runes have been nerfed.
Debate people ... not looking for debates on work arounds or how a warrior can kite or use his secondary class.
Warriors are NOT ranged characters ... the absorption (damage reduction) was needed to help them do their job more effectively. OMG they don't have a -75 health attached to them ... other classes do NOT have to stand next to their opponent to operate (before the assassins scream we do talk to Anet ... your class is a failure by design). With 2 pips of energy MOST warriors are adrenaline based .. IE we have to be able to survive long enough to use the High damage skills. Enter Aegis, blind, blurred vision, sympathetic visage ETC ... the 8-10 strikes of adrenaline might take you 15 or more swings to build.
Fact. Shields were nerfed.
Damage reduction on the shields was UNIVERSAL from the start of GW. Presently even coral damage in the Jade sea is NOT viewed as physical damage by the shields now. The shields with +10 against (insert favorite elemental damage) have always been around as an option. The lower level of DR with the -2 universal was a trade off for covering all elemental damage. As if we have room to carry 4 or 5 shields with us at all times ... the -2 universal was always the logical choice. Given the reluctance of Anet to provide additional USEABLE storage the specific elemental DR shields are not really an option.
Fact. Knights boots were nerfed.
This is a hazy issue given the fact they have been an option for 14 months. What is the point of mixing and matching armor sets if you are not trying to exploit the benefits of one type over another? Anet didn't nerf them because they were overpowered. If they had a reason my guess would be it is their desire to remove gold from the economy. What better way than getting 1 million plus people to buy new armor.
Anet ... roll back the shield and absorption nerf.

I can't believe there is this much crying coming from people playing a Warrior class
I guess is was bound to happen as people always seem to start complaining only when something effects them directly but if your first instinct when something happens to you that you don't like is to bitch and moan you should really rethink being a "Warrior"
There are a couple of valid points made by the OP but a strike???
Try and remember how pathetic you all thought the monks were when they had that temper tantrum and what really happened?
The game moved on - the crappy monks weren't in your pugs for a few days as they were all in THK crying and everyone remembers them as the spoiled children that they acted like.
here are a few tips
#1 Warriors should never dance
#2 Warriors should never cry
#3 Warriors should never be pink
#4 Be nice to the monks you're gonna need em a little more than before
Peace guys and try to act more like Warriors than Whiners

Heh, when I first read this, I thought it was going to be like the THK monk-strike
Not sure if this is going to work, though, as there're probably way too many warriors and ANet will almost never go back on their decisions, regardless of how many complaints they get.

Now you're going to have to throw on mending to negate the 6 damage more per second you might be taking I knew it was still the best non-elite in the game. (seriously, don't start a mending argument, I know it's good for soloing).
/strike but not because of the damage reduction being physical now. Just because I want to see them make mending an elite.

I am always nice to monks - I'm very keen to say thanks when a job has been well done, but lately I have to say Necros have been impressing the crap out of me...tho yesterday I had the chance to meet an amazing Rit that has inspired me to give it a go...
And as with ALL professions there are good and bad players. A monk doesn't mean they are a good player just like all wammos are not self centered aggro causing rushers.... well ok 'most'
And I like dancing, I like Pink, but only musically, and I usually cry when I watch Thelma and Louise...
Therefore I can't be a proper warrior...hmm....going to shoot myself now...
