Livingston's Guide to becoming a Grandmaster Canthan Cartographer! (No Map Checks)
Livingston
Hello peoples.
I haven't posted in this thread for awhile, frankly I lost steam for it when some goon gave this thread a 1, thus destroying its perfect 5 star rating (the highest rated thread I had seen), without posting their reason for doing so, which I say is a most cowardly thing to do.
Anyhoo, I'm uploading copies of my blank (no green circles), separated U-maps, so check them out.
I am also offering my map checking services to the board again, but at a price. Please read the second post for the how and why. Or go here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10112904
Now here are answers to some of the questions that have been posted in the last page of this thread. If you posted a question on this thread before the last page, and still need it answered, please ask it again and I might be able to answer it in the near future. I won't be looking back any further, as I may then be answering questions that the asker may never see.

How do you go to the small portion at the upper left corner of the Unwaking water (kurz)? Also, when a group conquers a town, u cant access the back part of that town, will it be included in your mapping of cantha? Can you get 100% without these?
Thanks! First question - You just walk there. There is no trick. If you come to the gate that would cross in to the town area if you could go through it, then you are in the right place. Just give the walls some lovin.
You do not need the areas that you can access through ownership of towns, but they will count towards your goal if you can uncover them. Many people will join a guild simply to map the town area and then leave in order to make the title easier. I believe this is cheating and makes the title pointless, but to each their own. You will also not find these areas cleared on the maps I have posted.

I'm sorry but I do not directly divulge information about cartography exploits. Because, as is self-evident, these are exploits and thus cheating. This guide is not for cheaters and therefore I will not post information about it here. If you really want them then you can take the time to search the rest of this forum for the info, it's really not that hard to find. I will also say that at least one of them no longer works, though I won't say which one.
You will find the area for the necrotic traversal exploit uncovered on my map, but I did this long after obtaining my title, and I have no problem with other people using these once they have earned their title. Thus if any wish, I will give them information about said exploits if they can show me their title in game. Livingston Capella
Well I think your thread is excellent. While the only part I used was the last mission banishment write-up. Knowing what works and what does not, helped.
I ran Tyria for Grandmaster with a Ranger, then decided it would be more interesting with a Smite monk since they don't get running skills, so I pretty much battled the maps clearig them of enemy, which helped a lot with skill capping while on the way. I found how to get to Vizunah Square Local on Guildwiki. Mostly a lot of edge walking, remapping using TCFish's medimum Catha Map, and a lot of time. Thanks for the thread. Capella ChoKILLate[FDG]

No problem Livingston, that's cool. As stated in my second paragraph (that you did not quote) I am currently at 99.1% and have run out of areas to explore. I cannot get to the festival area until there is a festival, and cannot get into Jade Quarry until we get a team together. I also have about 3-4 spots that I cannot get now that the sewer areas do not uncover those spots. With the changes made by Arenanet and the lack of Faction players, getting the 100% has gotten more tedious....ahhh well. | BTW...I do have 100% in Tyria, and Elona, and have the Kind of a Big Deal Title. I just decided to map Cantha to get it out of the way but is is proving to be the hardest of the 3 continents. Livingston

BTW...I do have 100% in Tyria, and Elona, and have the Kind of a Big Deal Title. I just decided to map Cantha to get it out of the way but is is proving to be the hardest of the 3 continents. Yeah, Cantha is most definitely the hardest of the three to aquire. Though Tyria probably still takes longer simply because of sheer size. I believe the reason for this is that Tyria and Elona appear to have defined edges that you can clear, meaning that no matter how far a little sliver of land juts out, you can't uncover more than the edges allow you to uncover. Where as Cantha doesn't, therefore if you don't hit many of those little edges, you won't completely clear the area you are working in. Have you posted your name on my Jade Quarry exploration thread? Livingston Ghost Knight
Thanks Livingston, ill keep post if I have any more questions

how do you get to #12 on the Shing Jea Map, I can't figure it out. I am also having trouble getting to spot #5 on the Luxon map and #16 on Mount Qinkai. Any help of getting there would be appreciated. I am at 98.9%

Post #3 of this guide tells you how to get to each number
#12 on Shing Jea is through the arena guard in Shing Jea Monastery. #5 in Luxon is in the Zos Shivros Channel mission. Don't do the mission, as soon as you get in, just run to the areas that you need to explore. You can flag your team to stay next to the guy you need to protect to buy you more time, but it shouldn't take you long. #16 in Mount Qinkai - Direct quote from post #3 - "16. This spot is cleared by asking the Luxon Commander in Luxon Fort Aspenwood outpost to Replay the mission cinematic" Livingston I've also made some changes to my service thread: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10112904 I'm trying not to spam it, but I think I've finally got it to the final version I'm happy with, so check it out. ^_^ Note: If you tried to follow the link before and it redirected to the homepage, please try it again, it should work now... Thanks a million Livingston!!!! I couldn't have gotten Grandmaster Canthan Cartographer without you or this forum.

Thanks a bunch Livingstone! I was stuck at 99.3%. I started to follow your guide, saw some missing spots and now I'm up to 99.9%!
![]() dgb
Thanks Livingston, your guide picked out the last two spots I needed to take me from 99.8-->100.
For peoples interest I'm a Tyrian character, I managed to get 100 without entering the Jade Quarry Battle Area, Monastery Overlook or necrotic traversal to Raisu - it can be done, just takes a lot of edge swatting. Ghost Knight
Ive got 100% Grandmaster Cartographer for cantha as well as my Kind of a Big Deal title. Thanks for all the help. Ill post my pic maybe later this week.

OMG, I finally got it. I been working so hard for this title. Thanks. Rated it five stars

Just saying thx to Livingston, got my GMC by using your guide

Yay, I got to 100%. I searched the entire map again using your method and found a bit I missed in Imperial Sanctum.
Cheers Livingstone! Livingston
Congratulations guys.

Thanks to your stratagys and clean maps, i went from 84% to grandmaster in under a week...and got my Kind of a Big Deal Title....sir you rock my socks!

Vizunah Square (Local Quarter) for a Tyrian charter? checked wiki and atm im' trying to get a group to see if i can "warped" there. any other suggestions?
Update... Ya you have to have someone with the quest to "warp you". Also if you just boated/quest over from LA or NF you have do the quest "welcome to Cantha". Me and a small group were doing the quest and 1 guy was stuck and after we got to the town he PM us and i went back to unlock his quest "welcome to Cantha" So i'm assuming you have to beat shiro then come back and get warped local area. Looks like you can't just Boat over and do the quest to get in the local area. you have to do the foreign mission no matter what. Exoudeous
Finally finished. now to elona

Where as Cantha doesn't, therefore if you don't hit many of those little edges, you won't completely clear the area you are working in. Really? ...... I found it surprisingly easy to achieve... though there are a few possible factors that made it so: #1. Canthan character, hence monastary overlook. #2. Some nice fellow whose alliance owned Eredon Terrace at the time let me into the back area.... and into the mountains... No more details provided. #3. I'm an experienced PSP (Paint Shop Pro) user, and figured out before I ever read this thread how I was going to determine which spots on the map I hadn't uncovered yet. #4. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I love uncovering maps... so I was grinding the walls and running into the obscure corners of the map as I went along. I've got GMC now... at least in part thanks to this thread... Oddly enough... one of the very last places I found (at around 99.6%) was Vizunah Square Foreign Quarter... mission entry area... Funnily enough I'd just never been that way through Bukdek before (though I'd been right up to the gates inside Vizunah Square mission). Rote Zora
I got it!.
![]() And I was surprised how fast it went. But I am sure only due to this great guide. Livingston

Yeah #1 and #2 make Cantha rather simple, especially if you get into Jade Quarry as well. That's why I wouldn't waste my time checking maps for people who had used the exploit to clear that area. If they had that then they shouldn't need any help. Congrats to our new Grandmasters. Don't forget to rate the thread. Livingston paulatpingu
Well, my second GMC after Elona and another one that couldn't have been done without Livingston's great guides.
Wall crawling got me to 99.6, this guide got me to the last .4% - thank you. Thread rated, by the way. PS Don't know if it helps, but I got banished with no headgear, two superior runes and an Assassin guildmate. I didn't need to buy all the runes, and my guildmate did nothing special in terms of boosting health or armour. Soon as we hit aggro, I got banished. Thanks again. CyberMesh0 Just finished this one a few minutes ago. 2 out of 3, now I just need to return to the roots and flush out the rest of the 97.4% I have of Tyria. KOABD here I come! ZEROBahamut
Thanks for all your help mate. awesome post, with this i got the last 0.9%
![]() Ormiel
Hi, I very need GMC of Cantha and I need help. I don't know, where I can find % on map
Anyone can help me and scan map? Thx for your help. CyberMesh0
The percentage you've completed is displayed in the hero panel, under the Titles tab. Just look for the Canthan exploration title track

Woohooo !
I finally got this title ! and I'm "kind of a big deal" too ^^ Thanks a lot to Livingston and Shyft The Pyro, their posts were really, really really helpful ! Oh, and I got 100% without completely exploring the jade quarry mission: I already "explored" it when doing a match several months ago, but I never managed to discovered the three spots that are in shyft the pyro post. Here's my jade quarry map: (click) But I've completely discovered the fort aspenwood area (remember to view the cinematic sequence by asking the Luxon Commander in Luxon Fort Aspenwood outpost ). Thanks a lot ! /me happy ^^ Livingston
If you wanted to give me that spiffy looking rollerbettle to show your appreciation, I wouldn't refuse.
![]() Remember guys if you need map checks I offer them on my service thread at the following URL: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10112904 And Congratulations to all of our new Grandmaster! Livingston Dutch Masterr
right now im at 95.6% and im trying for the shiro part. i have a problem when i get banished though. i bought the shing jea armor and superior runes and he did banish me first. when i got to whereever he banishes you to, i put my other armor on and started to explore. about 10 seconds later i randomly got teleported back to where my party was fighting shiro....couldnt find this in your post and was hoping you could help me
great guide btw. also....how much of the map does the shiro part get you? i got .2% from it so far. Livingston
It really depends on how close you were to getting another full % point before entering, as the little spots give you around .3%.
If you had the area as clear as possible before being banished, meaning you wall hugged Shiro's main area, then it usually nets .2-.3%. Depending on how close you were to getting another % before you entered. The reason you were teleported back wasn't random. It means whoever else was in your party killed the Shiroken construct that replaced you. If it's killed, you come back. Thus you need to go in with someone who can keep away from Shiro and the Shiroken while you explore. Good luck, Livingston Maxiemonster
Just got my last 0.2%, wouldn't got that without this guide. Kind of A Big Deal now too
Imbui SkinFlayer
I would like to give thanks to everyone, especially Livingston for
these threads and maps which aided me in completing these titles. Many a times you would sit and stare at your map and swear you had uncovered every minute detail and nothing is left. Then, with the help of these kind people...You discover just how much you didn't see. Hugging walls is Key, so is sitting in a spot a few extra seconds. Sometimes a little surprise will pop up on your map! ![]() I Will Heal You Ally
This guide helped me a lot especially those later maps of the most spots missed. Since it's on the 2nd part of the post most people don't read it and they miss them.
BTW I would like to know how did you get those islands north and south of shiro explored. I never got it fully. Auron_Fury
I need some help with this map... im at 99.6 and stuck, can somone please look at it and tell me what im missing, jade quarry is one, but no one goes there anymore...
ill send more, since i dontn o how to put it into one big picture... Auron_Fury
and here comes some more...
Auron_Fury
and thats all of them... sorry for so many... any help would be great !
