Here's one that hasnt seem to be suggested yet,
Skill Rebalance Madness Weekend!
A weekend where all the rarely used skills get experimentally buffed, without needing to be "careful" about it. Turn the whole metagame upside and give it a good shake, and get some data about what sorts of changes would be good and what would be bad.

yah. i'd really discourage double ectos/shard drops. Not that i'm rich and have stacks of them (i really have zero of both), just cuz ectos are currently considered money. people trade in ecto's and shard's and its considered the next step up from platinum. So doubling the rate of ecto dropping will just make the economy go downhill and ruin the lives (guild wars lives) of those that have worked hard enough to get to the rich point.

Also some weekends on Tyria!! Not only double drops and stuffs like that in Cantha and Elite Missions. People without factions are humans too.

Purples can drop with max stats like goldens have.
Remarks on other proposed ideas:
- Why would a double dye drop weekend be so popular? All the normal dyes cost almost nothing, silver is not that expensive either and it's not like you would suddenly get black dyes drop all over the place. Also those low cost dyes would decrease your chance to get quality drops.

I know, I got 0 Fame. However, this would be the way of dragging my Quake-loving butt into PvP:
"The Single Player HoH Tournament". The Setup is simple. People enter HoH like they would enter Random Arena. Then they get thrown into Arenas of 16 players. Everybody is an hostile, respawn time is 3 seconds, kills get counted. After a ten minute all out battle the top 4 get to the next stage. In the final stage, HoH, the winner of the last all out battle will be rewarded with a crown.
With this tournament the gods commemorate the "Days of Madness", a time when no alliances existed.

I demand a fun park! Rather, I beg for a place where an idle guild can get about four people together to throw things at each other. That would be a lot of fun on many levels for the veterans. Maybe a few long term "rides" and idle ticket ventures to pass the time with an on and off series of special events? Ring toss for dyes?

Only put back the griffons for 1 weekend an remove aoe-updates fo 1 weekend. Just feel how funny was to bash 30 griffons at once.

The only one I have really enjoyed was the one last weekend in Halls.
So another weekend like that please but this time make it last 2 years or so.
Liked the idea for random teams at Halls with possibly double fame again.

octoberfest / favorless uw-fow / using non-lethal skills in outposts (galelock someone and slashpoint at them :P)

Although this isn't based on a mini event but I guess it could be. Kill the right bad guy in any zone get droped for entire team xx amt of gold someing that would be about 5 to 10k a player. (this is something I think would make more people to team up and literaly kill everything in a zone were it made a permanant change). Dont make it a boss or something obvious. I would say some totaly random bad guy in any zone so kill everything in a zone eventually you will find the "pot of gold".
A guild wars lotto hidden somewhere in the game untill there picked up are "tickets" those tickets could be worth 25k 50k 75k and 100k have them drop asigned to one player on a team like a wepon drops. Perhaps they could look like a present or pot of gold double click on it to see the amt. Have them drop randomly from anything anywhere from ascalon to imperal scantum.

"Good ol' Snowball Arena Event". The setting may be the northern or southern shiverpeaks. Alternatively a revival of the Dragon Arena, that game was so cool.
So we could name it "PvP is just for fun"-Event with both arenas. Access through the RA-Island. Both games could be included, people with Prophecies only can only access snowball, people with Factions only can only access the Dragon Arena and people with both get twice the fun =)

* Optional: Reduced price for SoC's (but limit the number of SoC's you can "store" on a character!)
* Optional: Allow to have two elite skills in the skill bar
Mission Masters Weekend:
* Double XP/Gold for achieving Master's Reward on co-op missions (but not skill points!)
Cartographer Weekend: (a.k.a. the "Wallhugging Weekend" )
* Get a small reward (like 50 gold and/or 50 XP) for every x % of the map you explore.
-- x = 1% if you're < 80%
-- x = 0,5% if you're between 80 - 95%
-- x = 0,1% if you're > 95%
Challenge Mission Weekend:
* Double reward for Challenge Missions (Dragon's Throat, etc)
* Give PvP characters access to Challenge Missions

* Double chance to salvage rare materials
* Slightly reduced prices at all crafters (incl. artisans, 15k armor crafters, weaponsmithes, etc.)
Collector weekend
* Collectors demand only half amount of input (rounded up)
Quest Weekend
* Double reward items for quests, but only the following:
** Monastery Credits
** Imperial Commendations
** Equipment Requisition
** Luxon Totem
Favor of the Gods Weekend
* Favor of the Gods for all!
* Half access fee for UW/FoW

Name the Location Contest:
I love the fact that all the places on Shing Jea Island have names. I mean not only the outposts/town, but also the places in explorable areas. (You know, these little signposts.) It gives the island so much more atmosphere. You can feel that every place has some kind of background story. Why was that done only on Shing Jea Island, but not on the Cantha mainland?? Very often I looked at some extraordinary object or location and thought: "I wonder what's the name/history of this place!"
How about a contest? People should submit name suggestions for places/objects (identified by screenshot and marker on map), complete with a background story that fits well with the game lore. The winners' locations will get a signpost with the location name ingame, and maybe an NPC in the area can tell some of the background story.

I am a new user to guild wars after being recommended by a work Colleague (I wish he never introduced me now because bang goes all my spare time) and he was talking bout the dragon fest that was run a few months back.
being new to guild wars i am concentrating purely on PvE.
All i am seeing at the moment is a lot of stuff for PvP which is something that i am not doing at the moment so is there any chance that a few "fests" can be run for the likes of me and others who is only running PvE.

A lot of nice suggestions so far. Personally I'd like:
- Douple (quadruple) dye drop rate with increased drop chance for silver and black
- A PvE Balthasar weekend: killing an NPC gives Balthasar Faction equal to the NPCs level / level x 5 for bosses
- Increased range of sight weekend for cartographers - unlock map areas at double range
- Drunkards weekend - NPCs have a chance to drop alcohol (2 types: 1 min (common) + 3 min (rare)) plus drunk time is counted double
- No trade spam weekend - trade window is disabled, items you picked up cannot be dropped during the wekend.

I don't think "Double your <insert statistic here>" can really accurately be described as "several ideas for events" it's just one idea with different variation
I'd like to see more actual events like previous holiday events. Maybe have some epic long quests (which can't/don't encourage endless farming and solo'ing) or lots of little ones for PvE. Not sure what could be done for PvP side of things, maybe something similar but it involves fighting other players along the way?
If it takes longer to implement fine, I'd rather wait several weeks/once a month or maybe a bit longer for a decent well thought out event than just some generic variation of "double your stats" event every other week.

Monster Mash - players can take the role of (various) monsters. Maybe be involved in quests against the evil humans! and fight it out in arenas/PvP too. Of course this would be purely just for fun
Edit: to elaborate, one way of doing this would be via a "special monster skill" perhaps like the Dervish God Avatar thingy... this would alleviate the need for an extra slot. A variation could be temporary change (think werewolves and such...)

the double fame event was the worst one ever - and it lasted longer than all the others...
it looks like anet creates events in order to make all the titles worthless and unsignificant...
why dont you start an event with triple fame if you lose?

Worship Weekend
Where the gods appear at an outpost (each one at a differnt one). Everybody dancing in front of one of the gods will gain towards his "worshipper of Xxxx" Title Track. After one hour the gods randomly skip town and appear somewhere else. For the whole duration of the event, the favor of the gods shall shine on all continents allowing universal Fissure/UW access.
Could be a good way to meet people, talk to them and see the community get together. Imho, that seems to have been the best about the weekends so far.
